Why is it a 5 minute job is never a 5 minute job or perhaps murphys law takes over at this point, Today my front clears turned up so i thought right a 5 min job to put them in, One side out and replaced about 2 mins, Other side out in about 30 secs look down and i notice my outside temp sensor laying on the pan of my front spoiler setup, Hmmmm i think its ment to be sitting inside the brake air duct, No way i could reach down (not enough room) to plug it back into the duct, So out come the front light and clip the sensor back in where it was supposed to be. I like things being in there proper place. Anyway light back in but now it all out of allign so clear the wall on the garage so i could align things back up, Get all that done then its another 30secs to put the new clear in. Job done in 1 1/2 hours for what should have been 5 minutes go figure.

Update : I went ahead and did the passengers side today and i was more than happy with the end result. The hardest part i found was trying to find the correct wires to tap into. While breaking my back laying upside down with my head down in the foot well i finally found them. There are 3 brown/red wires which are bridged together you can see them here in this pic. (what a mission to try and take this photo lol). I tapped into these wires and then grounded things off to a solid brown wire that was bolted to the side. I mounted the indicator between the air vent holes in the kick panel which i thought was the best place to project light and you cannot see it at all. I also ran a wire across into the drivers side and will mount that up tomorrow if i have time. Now the passengers side lights up in conjunction with the interior lights, I.e come on when door is opened and fades after door is shut. Also comes on when you turn the dome light on. The indicator casts a nice orange glow into the foot well so all in all it came out really well.

Thanks for all the help guys, I am going to go down the tin first then side by side solder option followed by shrink wrap, I think this is the best way. I was thinking of plugs but then there would be a whole heap of them taking up a lot of room. There are alot of wires coming from the back of an 18 button obc, (about 5 more than my current 11 button one). So i think the way i am going to go with will be the tidiest.
-
They will hardly be noticeable when installed i hope, I thought since i had the indicators spare i might was well use them to create the orange glow. If need be i can paint the lens more of an orange colour to match the rest of the ambiance of the orange colour.
-
Mine will be going of the interior light circuit, so they come on when you enter the car and fade off when the door is shut etc.
-
Yup you are right Brent, I think its from about 97 onwards, Mine is may of 96 and it does not have them, Wonder if its an option you can add when buying maybe. ??. Anyway poor old me will have to do his own. Oh and off topic, Brent i have soldered in a new resistor in that Air con unit for you and tested it and its all go will post it back to you today

Guys over the next month or so i have a couple of projects that i am going to start and complete on my car, First up i am putting in some footwell lights and secondly and the bigger of the two is i am upgrading the 11 button obc to an 18 button one as well as changing out the indicator stalk for one i can control the obc with (Thanks Ray you are the man for getting me these parts). What have you found the best and safest way to splice wires into the various looms. Butt splices ?? , Twisted together and soldered and covered in shrink wrap. What have you's done in the past that you have found to be the best way that has never given you any problems.

Yup have decided i am going to go ahead and do this mod some time over the next couple of weeks, I have found the perfect place to mount them

I had some Clear side markers turn up today that Brent sent me down and now have my old orange ones that i was thinking of using as footwell lights. If i put a low wattage bulb in them and inset them into the top of the kick panel at the rear it should give off a nice soft orange glow when opening the door etc. What do ya think ya or nay ??.

I do not know if anybody has looked into this at all for us e36'ers and e46'ers but a bit of surfing today looking for something different for my door sills turned up a place that sells illuminated door sills made to order. I have sent them an email requesting more information on what i am after and price, I have a utube video here which is sort of an example, Although it says e46 you can get them for the e36 as well. The great thing is because they are made to order you can choose what you want the logo on the plate to say and what size you want the logo. You can also get them illuminated or not, there is of course quite a price difference i would say. You can also select what colour you want, I would be looking at matching illuminated orange. I think these could be pretty cool what does everybody else think. Here is the utube link. Remember you can customize it to say what you want and colour and size. Good idea ?? , or do do you think it would look stupid. >> clicky for youtube <<
