I assume you used a sprung hub clutch plate? Can I ask who supplied the flywheel? Could be a good way to have a single mass flywheel with the 240mm clutch setup without spending ludicrous sums of cash! Feel free to PM

Will this guy be up for a manslaughter charge?

Looks like he's pulled quite a few out of retaining walls! Eww! -
Nothing in NZ at all? Not even EuroItalian or Milland??

Ahh, yeah.........."for the kids"........... Have seen your car a few times in the New World carpark but never took a closer peek, had no idea its got a proper gearbox!

Look around online, $1100 locally is cheap

Why does the cool stuff always pop up for sale when I'm effing stuck at work with no internets?!?!?!?!?!

Look, if worst comes to worst bring it to my place (I'm about 10 minutes from you) and we'll hide it under some blankets in my shed for a couple months. She'll never see it past the stack of E36 and E39 parts so it'll be nice and safe, and I solemnly promise not to sit in it and make brum brum sounds (though my toddler might!) After a few short weeks she'll have forgotten all about it and you'l have the new daily and the E34. Win-win!

Need to replace the bushings in the E36 as the gear lever flops from side to side by about +/- 30˚ from centre. Any local sellers or is the US the only option here? Thanks

Still on the scrounge for M5x cam lock tool and crank pin please!

*Runs out to shed to look underneath the family car* Horrifying stuff, one assumes you replaced and refined the missing bolts for the poor creature Glenn?

E39 just has a lifting point on the chassis, wee little plastic moulding that accepts the head of the factory screw jack, like normal cars. Not sure about the pre-facelift but I imagine they'd be the same

Exactly why I stopped buying rubbish tools from Ripco ages ago! Build a relationship with your local engineers shop dude, it's frikkin amazing what kit they have and how reasonably priced it is Bought a 2000kg low profile steel creeper jack about a year ago for $240+, far better than the ali ones! Good to know the crossmember is ok to lift from, still tempted to look at reinforcing though!

Oh, that's just heartbreaking! If by some miracle Ray doesn't take the M20 flywheel I'll call second dibs

So if the increased weight were taken into account as far as springs and dampers are concerned then the extra weight (say, if using the wheel from the 7er) would be mitigated. Admittedly it's a whole lot of unnecessary work and expense for the sake of aesthetics but it could be done, if so desired. For interests sake, the style 66 (E39) seemed to be roughly the same weight as the style 68 (E46). Given the obvious difficulties that the lower (20mm difference?) offset causes would that have a tangible impact on day - to day driving? And any noticeable gain from the marginally increased track? Sorry for digressing Kyu!

No, but a buddy of mine fitted a set to his coupe a while back and much to my surprise I really liked the end result. Would have taken a massive amount of guard rolling and dicking about with the suspension to get it drivable, but still looked pretty good to me. Out of spec offset aside (which can be counteracted by intelligent suspension and panel modification - form over function always comes at a price), how much real world difference is there in wheel weight vs performance?

^^^^^ This Any item is only worth what the market is willing to pay for it. Your perception of a cars value could be very different to the sellers, such are the joys of auctions!

Just the internals and doing all the work myself though. Used a 3.15 I had already. Still lusting after a set of 3.23 gears though!
-
Yes Personal opinions are just that. Style 24s really do nothing for me at all, but they do for others so thats cool
-
I got ridiculously lucky and scored a good used LS centre for $350, but it was very much Jonny on the spot! Swapped the internals and reset lash etc myself, still spent over $700 by the time I redid the friction discs, oil etc. Would have cost more if I had to buy the dial gauges instead of borrowing them. Major downside with large case diffs is the extra parasitic loss from using the larger final drive. Far better to stay with the 180mm unless you're planning on running over 450hp through it. Auto or manual?

Style 5 Style 66 Style 40 Style 21 Style 127 Style 91 Then the obligatory Alpina, BBS, AC Schnitzer etc. All outside my budget though
-
Yup, and it's large case (210mm) type too. Will go into other E36s IF you have the right diff carrier and half shafts. Not 100% sure but I wouldn't be surprised if you needed a slightly shorter driveshaft too as the snout lengths are different. Definitely not plug and play. Edit: To OP, Geoff often has them available, also try SilverFox as he is known to bring them in from the US from time to time. No idea if he has any at the moment. HellBM, Brent, Mosen, SD European are all worth a try too, but it probably won't be the cheapest of exercises. Good luck!
-
At that price it'd be worth grabbing it and having your favourite fabricator make them to suit!
-
What would be good is a reinforcing plate for the front crossmember so the car can be evenly lifted from one central point. Dunno about others but it gives me the shits lifting one side 500mm+ and resting it on a stand then hurrying around to the other side and gingerly jacking it up to balance it on another stilt. At least the arse end can be lifted up from the diff!

http://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/car-parts-accessories/performance/turbos/auction-924778252.htm Wasn't someone looking for a supercharger recently? Looks like it'd be a good starting point!

DIY suggestions also welcome!
