Ditto, ratio change is a whole different story though. Have to get the preload and lash absolutely perfect otherwise it'll lunch itself sooner or later. Looking to swap a 3.46 gearset into my 3.73 to see if I like it better shortly (currently running 3.15 LSD but feel the torque loss is too significant), was chatting to an engineer mate of mine & he talked me through the process. Certainly nothing to take lightly, I had a headache by the time he finished explaining it

Ahhhhhh. Did wonder how they managed to squeeze another box in there without sacrificing the spare wheel. Did it make any appreciable difference to the sound compared to a single remus muffler?
-
Would be very interested to hear the outcome of this. The oil you drained looked slightly worse than the fluid that was in my 3.73 after I completed the manual conversion. 170000km on what I assume was the factory oil, certainly no indication it had ever been changed

Whats the story with the dual exhaust setup? Twin back boxes or is the second exit a parallel pipe off the muffler?
-
Well, that makes two that I've heard of. Best I've managed so far is splitting the carrier pin on a 750mm breaker bar trying to loosen the hub nut on an old turbo Startlet. End result was a large bump and a couple grazes from where I used my head to break my fall.

Probably plenty of interest, but could be the wrong time of year to be selling a ragtop?

01 Intake manifold 1 02/1992 11611735728 Um, no it doesn't. Probably best to research thoroughly before posting

For some reason that really appeals to my sense of humour

Or decrease the value. Bloody hell, he could've at least ordered a manual!

So poverty it didn't even get a tacho. (!!) Since when were tachometers a factory option??
-
Probably bankrolled by a series of 15k unsecured loans Or financed by a wealthy overseas parent who has obediently sent money under the pretence it's for 'unforseen university fees'. Seen that one before

Got all excited there for a second, thought they'd inserted an S65. But instead it's an auto diesel Not that I think the new diesels are bad engines, just wish they'd matched the go to the show. Does look lovely as a wagon though!

Where did you see said ultra rare 528i estateosine? Pretty sure I saw this round my old neck of the woods once or twice, never saw it long enough to figure out if my eyes were deceiving me

Hmm, shame the m bumper is missing from the front, would have been exactly what I'm after. GLWS

Interesting that the rocker cover has BMW Motorsport embossed, I had assumed it would read M-Power. Rather impressive plumbing on the exhaust side too! Lol, the interior is definitely era appropriate! 5055 miles from new, wonder what it'll sell for?
-
Bottom washer on strut being driven into the top hats by over compressed spring would be my guess. Possibly also strut bottoming out. Sure, an extra 15mm is great, no good if it's outside your shock & spring design parameters

Lol, 2k for a warrant rings alarm bells!

Possibly a cheapish source of parts for a conversion package? Edit: Ohhh wait - just realised it's the 3.5. Poo

White looks pretty sharp IMO. What happened to your rear wheels?? Looks like someone did something unpleasant to your trailing arms

I did wonder if I was being a little ambitious. Thanks

Further to sonic_attacks dramas with sorting a new key for his E34 it's got me thinking about the keys for the 530 wagon. Picked up the car on Friday, Jap import with only one key. What I'm wondering, is would it be possible to retrofit the locks & EWS module from the NZ new '02 530i I have downstairs as the parts car? Obviously I'll need the EWS coded to suit the different VIN, but what else would be involved in such a swap? There is a possibility I can get the other keys from the previous owner, if he still has them. Is it as straightforward as swapping lock barrels and modules + recoding? I have an idea the IR receiver is the ugly red boil on the underside of the rear view mirror, where is the RF receiver on the NZ cars? Is the wiring loom the same between Euro and Jap cars? Or am I opening a can of worms that would best be left undisturbed? Gut feeling tells me the simplest & easiest course will be to go through Ross @ BMWorkshop or expresskeys and just get a second one to suit what we already have, but the pile of parts downstairs has got me thinking............ Cheers!

How to reprogram Jap BMW radio to NZ frequencies..
Ahmedsinc replied to jochen's topic in Maintenance
Ha, thread dig! Just picked up an '01 530i wagon (Jap import ) and am wondering if it's possible to recode the 16:9 HU to NZ freq. Type Value VIN WBADS62030GL80810 Type code DS62 Type 530I (EUR) E series E39 (2) Series 5 Type TOUR Steering RL Doors 5 Engine M54 Displacement 3.00 Power 170 Drive HECK Transmission AUT Colour TITANSILBER METALLIC (354) Upholstery STANDARDLEDER/SCHWARZ (N6SW) Prod.date 2001-07-10 I'm assuming the build date is out by 2 months to have the world radio unit? HU.htm -
There's a 2??!! Christ, what rock have I been under? I'm also assuming the i is the hybrid? Or is there yet another series that I've totally missed
-
I'm not sure I see the logic in diversifying the offerings so much. So now we have a 1, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, plus three variants of the X. And the Z. And the hybrids. Why not bring back the 8 and let that occupy the luxo-barge coupe space. That negative pressure duct below the tail light looks like a badly repaired cleft lip. Just sayin'
