back from the doctor. Got a concussion, have to avoid anything where I may hit my head for 3-4 weeks (means squash etc is out). Also have to take a couple of days off work and rest. Back and ribs are just badly bruised, just a course of anti-inflamatories for that. I got off pretty lightly really Cheers

Hello I got self pwned big time in the weekend, and while I (and others) think it is bloody funny, lets hear your stories too (this will make me feel like less of a muppet if I hear that I am not the only idiot here). Mine is.... I was descending a flight of stairs quickly to catch up with Brook when I thought i'd just jump down the last few stairs. What I did was leap at full pace, and catch my forehead of the bottom of the flight of stairs above which not only knocked me out straight away, but sent my feet still going forward while my head stayed stationary. This meant that I landed back first on the stairs. Not only did I get a decent concussion (that I am going to see the doctor about this afternoon) I have also got a very sore back/side and can't place any pressure on my lower rhs (suspected injured ribs). Being the hard man that I am, I gathered myself up and then continued on to dinner (that I have very little memory of). I actually thought that I got straight up after my fall, but Brook assured me that I was out to it for a while and took a little while to get my wits about me and get to my feet. The plus side is that I have taken for the last two days some pretty good pain killers, and have been floating around for that time in a haze. I actually hobbled to work this morning, but didn't last long and was sent home. The sad part of this all is that I was 90% sober when this happened. I had had 3 beers prior to this over a 3 hour period, so can't even blame the beer. Cheers

you still have your stock system on a 2.7???? :gay: yup.I thought that the extra 2hp i'd gain for changing to a custom exhaust propably wasn't that necessary. The standard exhaust seemed to be doing the job nicely. Cheers
-
Yes, I will need to redo my exhaust in the very near future, my exhaust rattle which did sound good under acceleration, is now present almost right through the rev range, and is getting a bit annoying. I will likely go to somewhere like Al's Mufflers (on the North Shore I think) and get them to make something along the lines of what Andy did on his car. Otherwise if it is just the catalytic convertor that is causing the rattle I'll just get it cut out altogether. Cheers

Hi and Welcome. Were you at the honda CC driver training day at Taupo? Your car looks very familiar? Nice car, nice work to it too. Cheers

A group of us got them custom made at some place at Mt Wellington (I have no idea where, I didn't arrange them - just jumped in on the order). The cost is $320 for the set. They were supposed to be finished a fair while ago, but were delayed because the fittings were late arriving. You can get them in basically any colour, I just chose black (same as Gus') as it makes them less conspicious. Apparently there is some issue with some stainless steel hoses, and you will have problems at WOF time, but these are coming with a certificate (as well the tags on the hoses themselves) stating that they meet all the relevant standards etc. Out of interest, what pads have you got, and how have you found them? Where did you get them from? Cheers
-
I got the black ones too. Gus, whats the phone number, hopefully mine are ready too. Cheers

Here is my thoughts: Sure the driver training is a good idea, and the practical exercises are good. However we should have less theory in front of a whiteboard, and more time actually doing the exercises (I don't mean that we should eliminate the exercises, but maybe have a longer time actually doing the driving in them, and also have more exersices). The way in which this can be sorted is by having a booklet that is given out prior to the day that covers all of the theory. It is then up to the attendees to have read and learned the theory side of the day. This can then be gone over the next morning briefly to underline the key learnings. Even better, have the theory session the night before. I realise that some people drove to the day on the morning of it, but too bad, make attendance the night before compulsory, and have a 1.5 hour theory session then (say from 8pm - 9.30pm). Then the next morning, start promptly at 8am (not show up around 8, shoot the breeze for an hour and then finally start at 9 - the night before after the theory session can be used for renewing old aquaintances etc). Therefore the exercises can be started earlier, and there can be more on them, and you can have more of a run at them should you want. I know that the day is called a Driver Training day, but there is also the expectation from the majority of the people that you will get time to undertake lapping (both 100km/h and higher). For those who are not interested in the higher speed lapping, even the lower speed ones are useful for improving driving, these help braking control, accelerating through corners, and general car control in a controlled environment. Even in the under 100km/h session I found out the hard way that changing gear while cornering can unsettle the car, even at relatively low speeds, and I had to gather the rear end again that started to get a bit twitchy - this can easily happen on the open road too. The lapping (sub 100km/h, and 100km/h+ could then start straight after lunch), and sessions alternated for the remainder of the day. I, for one, found that I "turned off" and "tuned out" during the theory session, and I know I wasn't the only one (I did actually spy one guy who had fallen asleep). While I did enjoy the day, I did find the morning session a bit frustraing. I agree that the actual theory is important, I feel that there are probably other ways of delivering it. and letting people actually get in their cars and drive earlier in the day would have made it better, and allowed people to put the theory into practice and learn the hard way that things can go wrong in a very controlled envronment where you are in no danger of hitting other cars, pedestrians etc. I also sympathise with Steve and the instructors as well, as there is a very wide variety of people with a wide variety of ability and expectations, and what I have typed here is not meant as a criticism of the day and how it was run, it is my thoughts on what I think can be done to improve it, and help it better cover all of the bases. That is my opinion anyway, and as always I am interested in others. Cheers
-
I'm about to leave for a meeting, but I will provide my take on the day later, as I for one thought that the theory went on for too long, and that it was far too classroom based and not pracitcal enough.I also have ways of improving this too, while still maintaining the Driver Training aspect of the day. I'll explain my thoughts fully later Cheers

Andrew, the guy with the video camera is Ian (can't remember his last name). He has the red E28 535i.I think that Brent knows him, Brent - maybe you can hold of the footage? Cheers

Aghhhh my head!!!! I'm far too old for such post-driving activities. Yes, the morning was a tad boring (but good for first timers), but the day got better as it went on. I have just woken up for my nap and am starting to almost feel human again. Cheers

Not too sure, give Jon a call (number in my first post). He is in Newmarket, so not too far from you. Cheers

Hi Here is the link to a mates girlfriends car, that they are selling (they are moving overseas). http://www.trademe.co.nz/structure/auction...asp?id=24214690 It is in good nick, and would make a good car for someone. It has also been very well looked after, properly serviced etc. If you want to look at it give Jon a call on 021 669 854. Cheers

Hi and welcome. You may be struggling a bit to find performance parts in NZ (but either of the two Ali's are better quailified to comment than me). However places overseas have plenty on parts, check out www.bavauto.com or www.turnermotorsports.com Cheers

Haha, that is awesome...I love the way she ducks between the bike and the car going though that right-hander. The guys in the GT3 got enjoyment out of it too. Cheers

If you are not having any joy by Friday, ring Mosens or ED Euro and see if they have a pre-facelift starter motor. We can go though Hamiton and pick one up on the way to Taupo. It may be worth a last ditch try. Cheers
