    BMW Keys

What year is your e36? Earlier ones doesn't not have a computer chip inside they keys. If my memory is right, the change over was in 1995. If you are not sure, look under the key cyclinder, it has a really small box that says EWS. If you have that, your key need a chip (i.e. dealer or special places only). If not, then you should be able to cut the key anywhere. Pix shows looking up from under the steering wheel.
  2. Also, you can only make the change when the key is in position I or II. (accessories or engine on)
  3. I like the second one on your car more~ maybe I'm old fashioned~
  4. that's right... can't wait to have some spare time to fix up my old mini.$30 a tank last something like a month!
  5. well, I fill up once a week. Factor in the price difference (6 cents) x 60 litre is around $3.60. That's less than a coffee at a local cafe.I rather my car drink that "coffee". Whether there's a real difference, I don't know and I probably won't go and try justify that. But I feel good when I give the car the best I can.
  6. yeh, I can hear the fuel pump whirling when I was sitting at the red-lights~this is the first expense after my pay went through in the afternoon~ haha! pretty sad really...
  7. BTW, if you knock the lights out of alignment while doing any of these, go to a local WOF station and ask them to use the beam setter for you. My local VTNZ did that once for me for free.
  8. Take out the radiator cover (the big piece of plastic that cover the radiator and bridges to the front grill) Take the corner lamps then headlight out of the car, unclip (3 or 4 clips for ZKW, 6 clips for Bosch) then pull apart carefully. If they are realy dirty or you are real anal, you can also take out the eye balls (the circle glass pieces x4) by slicing the seals open with a knift. Clean with dishwash fluid, dry throughoutly then reseal with suitable glass sealant. Put everything back together in reverse order, should take around 2 hours include the "4x eye-ball" part.
  9. as topic and refer to pix... @#$(P)(#$%^! fuel prices~~
  10. An excuse to fit a full cage at the back seat~ Anyway, ETK only shows that the rail fits all Z3 and M Coupe, not sure about others.... I support if the screw hole are in the same place, they would be fine right?
  11. In a coupe, there's 7 bulbs that take care of the brake light (3 on each side plus high stop) On each side... 2 out most one comes on when you turn on the headlights 1 inner one (closest to rego-plate) only comes on when you press the brake If you use rear fog (not a WOF requirement, but anyway)... out most one is brighter than the middle one of the three (depends on import from where or NZ new, most have rear fog on one side, rarely rear fog are on both left and right) ----------------------------------------- Ask them if they failed you based on the LED-cluster lighting rule (75% of all bulbs of the same colour must be working), because they are not LED. Road code only require at least 1 bulb on each side (left and right) plus high stop to be working.
  12. Been discussed before, rear wheel drive + boat ramp = chaos + wheel spins / rust problem So, to answer your question, it can be done, but not a good idea.
  13. Nice work! By the way, can try silicone spray as tyre "blackener". Cheap and long lasting.
  14. Nice find~ what's your plan for them?

    323i exhaust

I heard that you can try 328 or even M3 exhaust (if you can find one), just need to plug the hole where the extra O2 sensor goes. (323i only have 2 sensors where the others have 4) I have never seen a dyno sheet for any of these claims, but I have no doubt that you will get a bit for the top end, whether you lose anything at lower rev I am not sure.
  17. NEver tried the Gold Class line, though I have a bottle of those in my garage. To be honest, I don't even know whether NXT is supposingly better or worse than Gold Class by Meguiar's own definition.
  18. To answer your question, technically they are not legal as you are only allowed the plates that come from the government's maker (Licensys, I think). The people who enforce the law would be the cops, their stance so far seems to be, if they can see it clearly, they are fine with it. Mind you, it doesn't mean they are legal. I read before that all vehicle MUST have a rear plate if it runs on the road with its own power. Be it a normal plate or a yellow X plate. Many people have these overseas made Euro plate on, you can take your chances quite safely I'd say. Just make sure if you have a 0 (zero) in your rego, then it should have a slash in your zero instead of a missing bit in the "O" like most (if not all) German plates.
  19. which of the meguiar line you want to compare to? As they have 3 or 4 product at different price points. I would say probably not as good as the NXT range, but better than the cheapest of the Meguiar stuff.
  20. Fixed! New Idle Control Valve and Cam sensors (pulse generators) Idle is now solid as a rock. The engine is quieter too (don't know why, but it's good) Throttle control on light pressure is back, there's no more hesistation problem. Seems to use less fuel according to the fuel consumption meter on dash. It's off the end of the scale at 60km in 4th gear (5 speed auto) without pressing on the throttle.
  21. Do you gather the bits locally or did you buy kits from overseas? How long did that take you to do it? How difficult was it? (say, 1 being change tyres, 10 being complete engine tear down rebuild) Did you feel anything performance-wise?
  22. Pix 2 for the stuffed laptop
  23. I know this guy whose parents live in the states. One day they got rear ended by a semi-truck where the laptop is in the boot (or trunk?) By looking at it, you would have thought it will be a write off. But despite the laptop itself is wrapped and stuff, it still works! The laptop was later repaired by apple for around $1300 and work as new! Pic 1 for the car
  24. Good work, I can never do anything like that due to my mechanical don't-know-how. By the way, is it me or the lighting? The front grill seems a bit skewed...
