  1. Ran a cooling system pressure test on the swish new 318. Then it hydrolocked on starting. So it certainly leaks past the head gasket on a dead cold motor, but is okay when warm. Might do a gasket. Not sure if I care. Found that amusing, did some donuts out front of the workshop. Took the X5 home instead. Way nicer. No idea why I buy all these e36s
  2. RE-003 are okay, not worth getting too excited over. Very well marketed though. Michelin PS4 are wonderful The Hankook are good value for money
  3. Nice to see someone else who sees sense with the m50 manifold craze. Bigger is not always better, so many examples of far too much port volume around, B6/BP Mazda engines are one great example
  4. They'll be none the wiser Is this true? Imy not going to admit anything after I measure mine and fund you're pulling my leg
  5. I'd personally go with the earliest body you can find. My very early 316 has no abs, ac, or electric windows, has the lightest heater matrix with no selectable recirculate. The only issue would be getting it past scrutineering with an alloy block 6 cyl, 328 brakes and vented rear rotors

    Gissa job!

Could certainly do worse things for less money

    Gissa job!

Perfect! Hope you love lying in muddy paddocks undoing farmers abuse
  8. That's not the worst idea I've heard of. Certainly much more "refined" than my 316 m40 manual monster. On a side note, I forgot how useless Japanese suspension settings are

    Gissa job!

Move to the Hawkes Bay and I'll hire you as a mechanic, then make you work 60-70 hours a week?
  10. Buy the parts off FCP euro, won't cost much.
  11. Got myself a super bad ass 318 with a super powerful m43 and 4l30e yesterday Talk about living the high life, it changes gears all by itself, none of my others do this, not even the X5! Changed the oil in the 318. Looked at the engine, got bored, drove home.
  12. Colin seems a bit chuffed with it! Sounds like it's a bloody nice car
  13. I've had them with and without, it may suppress certain frequencies that you will never notice.
  14. I drove to Aucklandto get a manual conversion and m42 that I don't need because all my e36s are manual So the only logical thing to do was commit to buy another e36, so I suppose I'll go get that tomorrow I keep saying I don't like e36s because they fall apart inside and now I have 4 again
  15. M52 b25 runs the 2.0 manifold I believe and some very boring tuning. The difference in real world torque is negligible, the m50 is the nicer to drive of the two. The rod to stroke ratio is certainly better with the m50 but with such piss poor cam specs and low rev range your advantages of tdc/bdc dwell time and cylinder filling is really not a lot at all. As far as I know the valves are the same between both variations of 25 and the b28 also
  16. Aw bummer I went past today with an empty car trailer, would have snapped this up if I knew how to use my phone and drive
  17. His set up is dodgy and dangerous, you can see his 328 running out of injector in one of his videos, real neat...
  18. I initially started with brackets based off his but they're not very elegant
  19. I made my own brackets etc, and Hyde kit didn't suit me. Mine was running a PWR water to air cooler under the intake manifold You don't need an oil feed for blower. You will need to have a blower bypass valve It won't make big hp with an sc14, but will be an improvement Turbo can be done, low mount with an oil scavenge pump is the way around the dump pipe issue Wouldn't bother modifying the 2.5 internally, you could safely run 3-350hp on it with a proper tune
  20. Will be interested to hear your thoughts on it, will most certainly feel faster seat of pants. I have a tidy sc14 I mounted up on my old 328ti floating around if you're after one, has a pwr cooler set up too
  21. Will lose a lot of torque without a re-tune and won't gain much up top. Has been covered a bunch of times. The flatter power delivery will make it feel like there is less of a top end drop off in power so it might feel faster up top
  22. The most economical e36 I had was a manual 328, also the best to drive. My manual 316 (m40b16) is much the same as the 328 around town, but hungrier on the open road My auto 320 and 325s have been slightly better than my auto 4 cylinders overall If the cooling system on any e36 is maintained and normal maintenance carried out any of them except the m40 motors will do big miles. However, the interiors fly apart and they love a good rattle. Brett's e46 328ci is really good buying, a much more refined car than an e36 and nicer to live with. Driving dynamics are fantastic Most e36s you will find have worn out standard suspension and do not really give you the fizz. A good msport 328 one the other hand is a lovely car to drive and wI'll not handle like old porridge like a standard one Most of my many BMWs have been very cheap to maintain, but you must choose wisely
  23. That's an engine loom not body loom
  24. Confirmed that the wiring loom I'm my 325 race car is buggered. Trying to get another for it without sacrificing the 316 If I can't get one I'll swap the motor and brakes in to the 316. But then I'll have a good chassis sitting around doing nothing. It's a hard life!
