  1. Interested if anyone has tried both RE003 and Dunlop SP 050+
  2. Biggest limitation to N54 power production is cast pistons in an open deck aluminium block. The Siamesed cylinders give some support but the 2JZ had both Siamesed cylinders and a thick closed deck with extra thick cylinders at the top. The RB block in contrast had thin-ish cylinder walls, core shift, thinner deck and was not as hard as the 2JZ, it also had a poor oil system and frequently cracked the block when pushed past 5-600 HP. So I agree the N54 has limitations compared to the 2JZ but apart from the Barra (Which is very big and heavy) the early N54's stack up pretty well compared to a lot of other tuner engines. I didn't mention EJ, SR or 4G engines because well they are 4 Cyl and yes they can make big HP but they require a lot of work to get there especially the EJ . Also all of the above mentioned engines will require new turbos, intakes, pipes and fuel systems so it makes any argument about the reliability of the factory setup for big HP a bit redundant. The stock setup on a 2JZ would allow maybe 450HP pretty similar to an N54 and a bit more possibly than an N55, a stock RB26 DETT can make just over 400HP. Now finding an affordable Supra or GTR well that's just not going to happen and they cant be tuned with a phone App. Just getting some perspective here.
  3. Yeah but thats as much because the Jap autos suck big time. There a world of difference between a ZF 6speed and 4 speed Jatco from the mid nineties. In day to day driving I think the ZF is fine maybe even better than the manual especially with an XHP tune.
  4. The Supra Block could go 800plus horsepower reliably but not the RB blocks.
  5. A friend is looking for a 335i or 135i to replace his 550i and I have been keeping an eye out for him. He wants a later 2010 plus N55 with later I drive and there are certainly plenty to choose from. That said the N54 cars are dirt cheap now. I have seen them as low as 11K and while I know only too well there are issues, HPFP, coil packs, charge pipes and on high mileage cars injectors they offer so much potential. MHD and XHP flashes make sorting power and shifting a piece of cake. This reminds of the 90s when you could buy Supras and Skylines for affordable money tune them and make 400 plus HP. 335is may be even cheaper comparatively.
  6. Very interesting interview, I love his comment on the E46M3CSL and he says Dual Clutch is better but we will still make manuals anyway. https://www.roadandtrack.com/car-shows/los-angeles-auto-show/a25349977/new-bmw-m3-m4-manual-transmissions-awd/
  7. Come on guys this is a steal! So much car for the money. These earlier e92's had large case diffs and a lot of the internals were forged, great if you want to add boost!
  8. Just bought a set of Pirellis for the wife's Skoda from Hyperdrive; cheaper by far than cheap Supercats on the Bridgestone buy 3 get one free.
  9. I paid 15k for my 2007 335i over 2 years ago now. Usual issues, charge pipe leaks was the major. I just wouldn't pay over $20 for an 07-09 335i now. The engine itself is pretty good as is the trans. The stuff bolted to the engine is where the issues are.
  10. Seems like a new tire to NZ, has anyone had any experience with them yet? Reviews on Tyre Rack seem positive but maybe a bit average in the wet.
  11. Glad you have your car back, I did think that it was a bit early for injector failure but hey I'm only an interested observer. HPFP, good to have that done I would say you can enjoy a good summer in the car now. Does go to show that you need a good mechanic; getting the codes wrong was a real red herring.
  12. Any particular reason you went JB4 and MHD? Everything I have read says benefit vs $ is very low.
  13. I have some e92 factory rear springs M Sport and will have fronts to match in a few weeks. BTW I would recvomend new bumpstops.
  14. Perhaps negotiate a 50/50 deal with dealer on new injectors. Then you will have a great car for summer.
  15. Just do your research on the burble, there is enough talk of it being bad for the Turbos that I would delve deeper if choosing that option.
  16. Hmmm, the seller is some person you will like never see or hear from again, after all the seller in most circumstances doesn't want to know anything about once he they have sold it. That is the nature of selling things, you either dont want or need it or you want to make money from the sale of it. Losing confidence is putting emotion into something that has no emotions, car ownership is a lot easier when you keep things factual. My take is that Steve didn't really research the likely issues with an N54 car and again no disrespect but secondhand BMW's (especially N54's) are an ongoing financial commitment, part of the reason they are so cheap relatively speaking. That said if the injectors get done it will probably be a good car as one of the known issues (Probably the most expensive fix)will be sorted. I have bought cars in this type of circumstance before, people pay to fix a problem then flick the car because they have negative feelings towards it. In my case in a number of occasions I have been happy to profit from their emotional issues. I bought a nice Mazda RX4 Coupe many years ago; the seller cooked the engine rebuilt it then sold it because he felt they were unreliable. Thanks I will take a rebuilt engine in a clean car and 40k kms later when I sold it, it was still running sweet. My first E36 was bought off a young chap who was worried it would be too expensive to service so he sold it after 4 months ownership. All his mates told him BMW's are expensive to fix and service bro! Thanks mate here's a grand for a tidyish 325i coupe. Not trying to be tough on Steve here, but this is a discussion forum.
  17. So I am a bit puzzled about this, you obviously wanted a 135i? I assume for the performance and the driving pleasure? So you did your research and knew that these engines had a few issues, HPFP Injectors, coil packs, charge pipes and at high KM's possible waste gate rattle. You would also have worked out that when these parts are sorted the cars are quite reliable and can deliver a shed load of performance, real bang for your buck stuff in a classy package, I would go so far as to say there are not many cars that can get anywhere near the handling, power and class of a 135/335! for the money. So now you just want to be shot of it because one of the known issues has raised it head. To be fair buying a car new and having this happen is a bit poor luck, but as stated in a few posts when this is done one of the most expensive maintenance costs on this car will be sorted. I guess I am perplexed by your buying motives and expectations. If you dont get you money back from the dealer are you going to keep it? No disrespect but is this a car you actually wanted?
  18. So if the car goes back what wil you next? Buy another one from someone else?
  19. Personally I would just get all 6 injectors done and ask for them to meet half way. They are a known issue, get them done and then you set. If you send the car back then you have to start all over again and injector issues could happen at any time at least this way you will have peace of mind.
