BTW the car looks great with the repaint, but I am biased as I think E36 Coupes are one of the best looking BMW's.

I must be the odd one out, I would have the coupe any day of the week, its by far and away the prettiest body shape. A touring would be better than a sedan, but both second to a coupe. M4 me baby!

I have been running an MHD Stage 1 plus for nearly 2 years now. Whats most important is a bigger inter cooler and replacing your charge pipe before it splits. Its also very worthwhile to get your intake ports de-carboned. Straight pipe or any aftermarket noisy pipe is a waste of cash. All it does it make the car obnoxious and a magnet for the cops. Remove the cats and you will have all the power the standard turbos can support. Note at this stage you will have real traction issues save the money you would have spent on a bogan exhaust and buy and LSD and the best tires you can afford. Coils die its just a a fact of life my first one went at 91k. As to injectors plenty of guys running MHD tunes with no issues.

Ok googled it and they called it Gull because it would Sh*t on everything. Very droll Aussie humor.

I think it might relate to when Ford were going to Supercharge the Barra instead of a turbo, but I can't remember why the Gull connection is there, vague memory of sh*t?

Biggest limitation to N54 power production is cast pistons in an open deck aluminium block. The Siamesed cylinders give some support but the 2JZ had both Siamesed cylinders and a thick closed deck with extra thick cylinders at the top. The RB block in contrast had thin-ish cylinder walls, core shift, thinner deck and was not as hard as the 2JZ, it also had a poor oil system and frequently cracked the block when pushed past 5-600 HP. So I agree the N54 has limitations compared to the 2JZ but apart from the Barra (Which is very big and heavy) the early N54's stack up pretty well compared to a lot of other tuner engines. I didn't mention EJ, SR or 4G engines because well they are 4 Cyl and yes they can make big HP but they require a lot of work to get there especially the EJ . Also all of the above mentioned engines will require new turbos, intakes, pipes and fuel systems so it makes any argument about the reliability of the factory setup for big HP a bit redundant. The stock setup on a 2JZ would allow maybe 450HP pretty similar to an N54 and a bit more possibly than an N55, a stock RB26 DETT can make just over 400HP. Now finding an affordable Supra or GTR well that's just not going to happen and they cant be tuned with a phone App. Just getting some perspective here.

Yeah but thats as much because the Jap autos suck big time. There a world of difference between a ZF 6speed and 4 speed Jatco from the mid nineties. In day to day driving I think the ZF is fine maybe even better than the manual especially with an XHP tune.

The Supra Block could go 800plus horsepower reliably but not the RB blocks.

A friend is looking for a 335i or 135i to replace his 550i and I have been keeping an eye out for him. He wants a later 2010 plus N55 with later I drive and there are certainly plenty to choose from. That said the N54 cars are dirt cheap now. I have seen them as low as 11K and while I know only too well there are issues, HPFP, coil packs, charge pipes and on high mileage cars injectors they offer so much potential. MHD and XHP flashes make sorting power and shifting a piece of cake. This reminds of the 90s when you could buy Supras and Skylines for affordable money tune them and make 400 plus HP. 335is may be even cheaper comparatively.

Come on guys this is a steal! So much car for the money. These earlier e92's had large case diffs and a lot of the internals were forged, great if you want to add boost!

Just bought a set of Pirellis for the wife's Skoda from Hyperdrive; cheaper by far than cheap Supercats on the Bridgestone buy 3 get one free.

I paid 15k for my 2007 335i over 2 years ago now. Usual issues, charge pipe leaks was the major. I just wouldn't pay over $20 for an 07-09 335i now. The engine itself is pretty good as is the trans. The stuff bolted to the engine is where the issues are.

I am keen on one.

Seems like a new tire to NZ, has anyone had any experience with them yet? Reviews on Tyre Rack seem positive but maybe a bit average in the wet.

Glad you have your car back, I did think that it was a bit early for injector failure but hey I'm only an interested observer. HPFP, good to have that done I would say you can enjoy a good summer in the car now. Does go to show that you need a good mechanic; getting the codes wrong was a real red herring.

Any particular reason you went JB4 and MHD? Everything I have read says benefit vs $ is very low.

I have some e92 factory rear springs M Sport and will have fronts to match in a few weeks. BTW I would recvomend new bumpstops.

Perhaps negotiate a 50/50 deal with dealer on new injectors. Then you will have a great car for summer.
