All these Petrol Companies yet no Competition between them
topcat replied to Driftit's topic in General Discussion
Or maybe the oil companies are actually one company, with 4-5 operating brands. My Dad has one regret in life, not buying shares in Shell when he had the chance back in holland bout 40 odd years ago.poo's,i could have been driving my big block everyday -
So many opinions/ideas/takes of our current situation and all have truth to them I have seen/heard a lot of things that make me shudder.but what are we going to do about it? I too am in bussiness, probably the most uncurtain market of all-local and export veges. every time any Goverment makes a change to our climate,be it finacial or political,i hold my breath. I dont have kids, but the crap that gets taught at school these days,i wouldnt want them there. the health system-dnt bother, get good insurance and spent the $50 odd a year for a physical, atleast you have an idea whats happening. As for taxs,i see both sides of the fence,as it were, but i dont see a reason or way tax can go down, in the long term,as long as this nations goverments run/treat this country as a charity and not a bussines. especialy the last 9 yrs or so.the budget for social spending and the goverments own opporational (mp wages, admin, perks that i can only dream of,advisory costs, leflets telling us who to vote for and how awesome where doing, etc) cost seem to double every 5 years or so.stange as the population has not doubled. Also this current goverement seem quite keen to be the first in alot of areas of interest, anti smacking, climate change, dont get me started, free trade with a leading communist country etc. What worries me is are we getting any results?Do we really need to lead the world in everything?I do know our country is the place where alot of things are 'tested',eftpos, micosoft products, cut of subsidies, womans vote-better stop there lol I guess things are better in Aussi, folks there are proud of who they are and how far they have come, and that additude will carry them alot further then that of their poor in spirit cousins We do live in a nappy state and we all 'roll over' as it were.maybe the folks in france have it right, shut the country down till the people change the minds of the powers above them-i dont know. Lots of questions and no real answers what i do know is this- 1.the many support the few 2.and the people get the goverment they deserve edit; Wow what a disjointed piece of writing, wonder how NCEA would mark this?? guess it boils down to this= 1. we earn the money 2.they spend our money 3.in practice they, the goverment, works for us. 4.what are you going to do about it,share holder?? better stop writing, they maybe reading this

the wife gets 9.5L/100k's regulary in the 3.5L e23. and thats a combo of highway and town.dont know how she does it.the right pedal gets plenty use.lol could the old school of engineering be at work....who knows

I could do with a sponser.you got the new "BMW HAVEN" parts stickers yet?? i'll let you chose the panel where its going to stick-as long as its in the glovebox

dont know about being too old.400 hp in the e28 was good a good fit.and i rarely had that number pushing the wheels.(especially when coming out of corners).a fat mid range was where i had my fun and the car handled the numbers quite easily, alittle over balance but overal,no the e28 chassis doesnt handle more the 350. the e28 is not a 'german tank'.its still a '70s design.if you want a tank, use a W series Merc, got a tidy body that needs a new heart this is why my next project is going into a e34,stiffer body, and a little more weight, more wheel size options, more upgrade parts in general and maybe its because I'm not 18 anymore, and have the income to support my hobbies but who's keeping count, marty

your on the right track Mike,Schrik 284 do OK inthe turbo setup.keeping the overlap angle no less the 112 degree range, but now were speaking specialist language and i didnt pass school C english,so i'll leave that there. I do know that I'm in the process of making my head flow better also for the same sort of story. wont be making 600HP claims for now,but 500 shouldnt be a drama. just experimenting with exhaust valves etc,as this shows to be the choking point rather then the intake-in turbo setups mind!!. the exhaust valve is now 3.5mm bigger then standard B35,and port itelf is now bigger then the standard valve. trying to find a flow bench at this point,to show where our mods are heading. any one knows of a shop that does this work? have you checked 666fabrication.com? Jon does very good work.the guys in the states have nothing but good feedback from his products.pricey, but if your willing to pay i dnt think you'll be disappointed. I will be going a different route, only cause i'm a dutch arab, and have deep pockets/short arms syndrome marty

I think you'll be better off in the short term talking to a performance engine builder. 600HP is not going to be an easy exercise without some serious leg work. not to put a wet blanket on your day,but the standard head flow on a e34 3.5 is somewhere between(so i've been told) 180-190 cfm at 28" of water.a sorted head with a lot of work done will flow 230+. HP=amount of air being 'pumped' through the chambers.so will need to calculate how much air is being flowed at what RPM and what boost level. the simple theory of 'just crank the boost' will work in the short term.but hydrodynamics will catch up to you sooner or later. conrods will add a difference,am looking into it myself, but are the rods setup for boost or a free reving NA setup? adding oils squirters,to cool the pistons?highly recommened Get the block crack tested before doing anything to it.saves a bucket load of headace. marty

Had a look at what I have on the shelf. got a ecu with two number,off a '89 e32 1 218 139.9/0 260 002 067 hope it helps marty 021 438 735

Personally i think the numbers are always going to differ, one degree C outside temp makes a quite a difference to final output KW/HP then there altitude,moisture/humidity. years ago had a my nissan firelady dyno'd twice in one day.morning/evening,25hp difference. my turbo setup I just sold was 'tuned' at speedsource,i say' tuned',cause it could have run a whole lot better if he had spent just alittle more time on getting the numbers right, rather then getting me out as fast as possible. ideally, a closed enviroment, with constant temp etc.and a dyno that is mantained to 100% as all moving parts wear-out eventually

at the moment i'm making friends with airplane guys out at ardmore, they crack tested my block for good rates i'll look at ireland, hoping someone local had knowledge
-
cheers for that, but had a look around this site before i asked, couldnt see/find any numbers.or have i missed something?

Hi Guys looking for info on the b35,flow info mainly. need the info to start to calculate the VE,compression stroke, cam timing etc. also to make some base numbers, before we start porting, stroking, headers etc. Next, who knows where to find springs, namely double valve spring setup for the b35 as its going back together soon. just had a 'trail' run with fitting larger exhaust valves.3mm larger at this stage. the standard exhuast valve basicly falls into the bored ports. looks awesome, hope the flow bench will also show good results. cheers, and yes will take some pic's etc-marty

Anyway, there you go.this is what 400hp looks like. am buying bits for overseas (US) at the moment,if anyone is keen to have one also or build their own, then PM me you needs marty ps cheers Brent and thanks for the offer Gus engine has been sold to robbie, all the best mate PLEASE get bigger brakes for that e30

i must say, this is one pain in the ass.i'll get back to you.GGGGrrrr

enjoy.can take orders

Nice,whats next? Turbo??
-
yes a e34 motor will go into your e28, after swapping the sump and oil pump.will need to run the e34 ecu and adapt the loom to your plugs etc.not difficult,do the research on mye28 forum,e34 forums. not sure bout cert.e34 motor does 218hp depending on condition. i have a 2.8 head on the shelf.cheaper,easier,faster/turn around be hearing from you

e30 325i turbo- what needs to be done?
topcat replied to chrisvlok's topic in Forced Induction & Performance Tuning
Mikes correct, you need the oil cooler and be kept seperate from turbo use. at good revs, the oil pumps pushing 40-60 psi oil pressure. when the oil is at temp,it starts flowing through the cooler. 50 psi and a half inch hose bolted on the 4mm oil intake fitting on the turbo leads to blown seals. a simple 4mm braided line .drill and thread a hole into the filter housing is the way to go.that or as i've done, tee off the oil pressure switch at the back off the head.plenty of oil. one more thing, what turbo are you using? thrust bearing type, use 4-5mm oil line, roller bearing 2-3 even easier-buy my complete lump and be done with it.one weekend and its in -
I've got a box already in pieces,a 260/5 that is.and yes its still complete. not sure i can donate as such. rather handy if someone strips a gear etc.
-
what sort of HP are looking for? CC rating of motor? VE of head? any planned mods to the engine? could be well worth the effort for $$ spent.if done right can double the standard hp at 15 psi. but lets not get ahead of ourselfs. cheers marty

can get a hold of m3 motors and geargoxes etc out of europe. looking at 6500-7k + freight, plus import costs. so yes not cheap
-
another way is; i've got a early e23 3L block with a tidy head, and a big 4 barrel carby to boot. fit a hot cam,280 schrik or more (300-320) and have yourself round the 220-250hp add some headers and be done for less then 4k be hearing from you
-
And the good thing is 1,it will drop straight in.hangon e21 is a 3 series(?),might require small mods, well documented 2.It will leave you with a spare 2k+ out of 10k budget. 3.every thing is done and has traveled aprox 3000 relaiable km's 4.the tune was and is still pig rich,so more hp/torque is definatly on the cards PM me, this upgrade as great in my e28,will be even better in a e21.
-
I got a 400hp m30 motor that will fit.probably cheaper in the long run

Grant, yes the next communica will be more appropriate, I do admit that my previous post was rather pointed, but with understanding on your side, I do get itchy arm-pits when there is talk of something on TM that's caught your eye, while we have unfinished bussiness. with patience marty
