We will drive a couple of 323s we're looking at this weekend. Admittedly, having driven the 320s they are pretty sluggish. Is it worth pushing for the 325 IYO?

If you could haggle that E46 to your budget it would be my preference. The e46 m3 is an excellent car!

They peeled a little in parts but nothing major. It doesn't wear away, I just used dishwashing liquid and a microfiber. Tbh I'd probably paint if I did it again. Only $400 for a mint job.
