  1. Do you guys get cravings at all? I haven't touched a cig for over a year almost a year but when I see people smoking it makes me feel like one, and when I am reallly stressed. But still smoke-free for the girlfriend
  2. http://www.turnermotorsport.com/p-1878-spr...r-2001-bmw.aspx I looked into this for my 530 but decided for the money I could do better. If I had that money and could do a manual conversion for the $$ I would.. But the 525 I drove definitely wasn't the fastest car out there so I don't know I it would be worth it on a 525z your decision I Spose I can't imagine any immense gains from an exhaust... I'd go see gavin@hi velocity if I were you
  3. I always run it on 95, and give her a drink of 98 a couple of times a month too. But yeah, might have to give it a good run down to a mate's farm for a weekend.
  4. Upon seeing that I'd probably go for the 323. Full service history, NZ new, looks tidy as well.
  5. Ok Jeff, that sounds promising (in the sense that I don't have a problem) I live about 5 minutes from town, my driving consists of 6am very cold starts driving 5 minutes to work. From then on it's only up to uni and back to work a couple of times a day at most. Short, stop-start driving. The engine is only warm from the sun. Thanks.
  6. Only temp problem that I can see is the external temp. which is at -40degrees c. Dash temp gauge seems to be working fine. do you do scanning brent? if so i may as well get that done when I pick up that stuff. how much would it cost?
  7. Hi I'm sorry but what would be wrong with the VANOS to cause the diseconomy? My knowledge of engines is ... limited ...
  8. Hi guys I've read a bit about what could cause petrol diseconomy. The car in question is a 2001 E39 530i. Don't know much about it's history other than what I've changed on it, which isn't much. Day to day driving, I do about 20-30kms. This is all "around-town driving" Even when the car is driven with the utmost economy in mind, the fuel economy is up at 13-15l/100km ... Obviously with more aggressive driving that increases substantially. I'm fairly sure that this car can do a lot lower... I think Yongxi mentioned his 330i has done around 8l/100km - Obviously his car's a fair bit lighter but to near double to petrol use I think is a lot. What can I have looked at that could affect the economy? I go back to an old thought, I don't remember the car being this thirsty before the exhaust was changed over by Wolf mufflers.. I asked AJ if he thought this could affect it and I seem to remember he said it wouldn't drastically. Then again, I only drove the car on the factory exhaust for a month or two. Any thoughts are appreciated. Thanks Tristan
  9. Yeah I agree with you here. I obviously have a biased opinion too but I love my E39, unfortunately I think she'll be gone soon but have really enjoyed it in the time I've had it. In regards to recovering seats, I've just gotten a quote for an unrelated project (ironic and somewhat hypocritical I know, but it was out of curiosity on a vehicle worth a lot more than your average E39) It'll be $2200 to have the seats fully recovered in a mid-size sedan with italian leather incl. 4 year warranty. Could probably find a cheaper place but that's a starting point. In relation to OP's question. I'd take the 525i. I've driven a couple and they were good cars. Fuel consumption I'd imagine would be much better than mine... It isn't a sports car but they're nice cars.
  10. Interesting view point. After putting almost 35,000KMs on mine, daily driving it, I don't have any issues with parking or squeezing through traffic. The fuel consumption is hefty but bearable... I would like a cheap runabout but not viable. Edit: In response to Jeff: I could never see a reason to upgrade to leather seats for 2K.. Seems quite uneconomical when the car is probably only 10-15K. I suppose if you're planning on keeping the car for quite awhile then it could be worthwhile to you and everybody prioritises differently.
  11. I have a 4, and my parents both have a 4 each. They're Telecom and I'm Vodafone. Often when I've got 1 bar of reception, they'll have max. I tried Samsungs and hated them. Don't like the shape or size. iPhone just fits nicely. Personally I don't see any reason to swap to a 5, if anything I'll change service providers.
  12. B R A V O, Hybrid could help you there...
  13. Just sent you a bunch from a while back Ollie, hopefully the quality is OK.
  14. Too late to enter but dug a few old ones out...

Look like Matchbox cars here! How do you choose which one to drive?
  16. Thanks for your input, lads.
  17. They claim the difference is night and day, the 3 settings seem like a bit of a fad. Does anybody have an knowledge of the effectiveness of these units? http://www.turnermotorsport.com/p-1878-spr...r-2001-bmw.aspx
  18. Wow, I must have a bad memory or prices have dropped? Those prices are quite attractive!!
