    Fiat Ad

Carl pretty much summed it up for me. I am so smegging sick of being nannied and PC bollox everywhere. It takes a lot to really piss me off - but that does!
  5. My first two BMWs were Japanese imports and I had quite few niggling problems with each of them. E36: 318i and 325i. I threw away the plate holders on both. My present car I bought as NZ new with full BMW service history. Yes, I paid more, but I feel happier and that's important to me. Having been to Japan, I've seen the way cars are driven there and they spend a lot of time just idling, so although the mileage might be low, the running time is not necessarily in step (another plus for engine running time meters). I've never been to Singapore, but I have read that the high humidity can be a problem with electrical deterioration on their cars. Also, in Korea and in Japan, most cars I saw were never garaged, (apartment living) so were more exposed to smog and sun than NZ cars are in general. All that said, I've seen some really beautiful cars from both countries and if I had to choose, I'd probably take the Japanese car over the Singaporean, all other parameters being equal.
  6. Thanks guys. Yes he had the wheels off, I guess. Its all sorted and I'm happy again. Funny how something as trivial as a crooked steering wheel can diminish one's driving pleasure. I had the courtesy car for a day while my car was in the shop and it was a Holden Commode. After driving that around, it was just so good to get back into my own car. I've only ever had a couple of Holdens and there won't be another in my future!
  7. Update. I phoned the owner of the firm and its booked back in sarvo for correction. I think the mechanic is going to get a kick up the bum. I don't like that part, but at least it'll be sorted. We BMW drivers can be fussy sods, can't we... :thumb:
  8. I thought about removing the wheel and doing it myself, but I'm scared of the airbag. Also - they forgot to close the toolholder in the boot lid after they finished, so I had tools falling out into the boot. Rather careless, I thought.

Will they fit a Daihatsu 360?
  10. car: 1996 E39 528iASE ~ BV73821 I had my car's wheel alignment done yesterday and the steering wheel is no longer straight and level. The mechanic told me that this was due to the significant changes he had to make to the rear alignment and that it will right itself. I am very dubious about this, as I've had many wheel alignments and never had this before. Also, looking at the report sheet, I see the vehicle is listed as: Autodata-shim 200 - BMW E39 Touring series Now a touring is of course a station wagon and my car is a sedan. My questions are: 1. did the mechanic lie about it coming right? 2. is there a difference between touring and sedan wheel alignment specs? I'd sure appreciate your input, before I go down there after work and make an idiot of myself

I'm blown away by the sheer stupidity of someone who has enough money to buy an Aston not having enough sense to garage it.

    You're only 9 out, mate
  13. IMO, its one of the nicer spoilers. I'm not a fan of large spoilers.
  14. Excellent reply. Thank you.
  15. Can anyone explain how the winner is determined in a drifting 'race'? I've watched it several times on TV and I'm smegged if I can work it out. Oftentimes, the bloke running second ends up as the winner. Veird stuff!

    Save the whales

I was on holiday in Rarotonga and ate some raw (marionated) squid. I was crook for 3 days and missed out on my diving because of that. Whales eat squid - save the whales and kill the squid! Works for me.
  17. A V8 is going to cost extra to run - just cost of ownership - you want the power, you gotta pay. My understanding is that the nikasil issue is not an issue in NZ?
  18. Good point, Gus! I've had a few frights with brake lights being smoked and being next to impossible to see. A very stupid thing to do, imo.
  19. Its all about opinions, since you asked - and mine is they're all subpleasurable to me. I loathe smoked/blackened lights with a passion.

    Attention Thieves

OUCH!! I'm not given to violence, but .....
  21. Looks nice mate. How much would it cost for an auto conversion?
  22. IMO - its an old, underpowered BMW. Maybe its time to let go and start a new journey with a 6 cyl car? Learn about why the BMW inline 6 has been so well regarded for so long. You should be able to part it out for *some* return, but really, I don't think its worth repair. ymmv. Keep the wheels though! You money, your choice.
  23. Black and red are the two worst colours for showing dirt on cars, apparently.
  24. I'm an electrician (although I haven't worked as one since 1980) and in the '70s I installed latching detectors in my home to replace the light switches. It was cool for a while, but like your survey results show, Ollie - we went back to good old fashioned switches.
