I think you guys mean the Stub axles, that go into the diff itself. As Brent say's, you don't need to touch them, other than bolting your axles to them!!!
-
LOL Only when I find some wheels wide enough to run them on the front and that clear the brakes
-
Thanks Sam. Unfortunately I only have the 1 Left inner & outer cover Might have to buy the right side ones, they are just so " '80s kewl" like a E30
-
Thought others might find this of interest. I thought I'd get one of the old 240/625 R17 slicks I have floating around mounted to one of my newly aquired 17x9" E34 M5 wheels and test fit it to the back of the E30. Well to my surprise, it was a perfect fit, didn't rub when I went for a little drive around the block. The guard may need some TLC when I adjust the camber but nothing major. I'll try to attach some pics for y'all.

Looks nice indeed. Really needs some spacers on the back, those wheels are sitting way too far in.
-
They are E39 M5 wheels (most likely replica's, BG marketing sell them), the OE rear wheels are 9.5" wide and apparently need some body mods for them to fit on a normal E39. Sets also pop on trademe quite often.

1250kg, full interior & spare, no boot lining. Big heavy: wheels, tyres, discs, rear subframe & TA's, diff, rear shock towers and bars, engine & gearbox. So not too bad considering.

I just got the Email from Trademe this morning, it rocks!!

A 225/50 RA1 would be a good size, you can get them from Racetyre Distributors 0800 722 389. Also Palmside in Chch do Silverstones the FTZ-RR only comes in 195/50 but in 2 compounds and $225ea is pretty cheap. Blairs in Chch do Kumho's [email protected] something like a 225/50 V700 victoracer. OTR are the Hankook dealers, 09-5791622 (ask for Dick), last I spoke to them they were getting the new R-S2 Z212's, not quite a R-comp but a good tyre from what I've read. Cardwells are the hoohoo dealers, from memory they were $$$ and only stocked limited sizes for the circuit tyres. Then there's yoko's Falken's too.

I'd flag it, unless you plan on having to handle 1000nm any time soon. You need to cut the brace out of the boot floor that the stock diff hangs off, cut the rear mount off the diff, make new bolt-on style side mounts for the diff and off the chassis. Then I don't think you can use the 188 small dia flanges in the 210 so you'll need new axles etc... (unless you find a Mcoupe backend as the inner CV will match). Then you stuck with shitty ratio's from the luxo-barges. My $0.02

Easy way to tell. The 210 will have 8 bolts for the side bearing seals (6 for the 188 & 4 for the 168) and the oil drain is on the left (not the back like a 188). The E28 535i came with a 210 and 188, bolt bolt into the E30 subframe, the E30 however needs some mods to fit & mount 210.

That ain't no BMW V8, it's a 3.0l or 3.5l JUDD V8 (mad F1 stylz). I've got the whole collection of vidi's from his home page, might have to buy some of his DVD's too. Georg Plasa Home Page

Use them till they are no good, then have a look on trade-me for some 5er wheels (often with tyres) for cheap, then get some nice tyres and it would still prolly be cheaper than new metrics!!! My $0.02

As long as you are sure the 3.07 is a medium, then the centres will swap to the 3.64 medium. You will need to get a diff shop to reset the preload on the side bearings & pinnion depth if you don't have the know-how and tools. until he reaches a hill or a stiff head wind!! Just to give you an idea, it would be doing ~2200rpm at 100kph in 5th.

Thats what I thought, could see the slight heat warping on the underside. I thought they were 8" rims for some reason. It's a shite load of work to fit those 640's!! I presume it also has a lot to do with wanting to run it very low (with your geometry correcting suspension mods)?? The 240/625's I plan to run (oneday when I get around to it) should fit with a slight massage here and there. Although I'm tempted to try the Silverstone S585 in a 225/650, reasonably cheap come in 17&18", and road legal, the 650 height is rather off-putting though. The pic below is not mine but shows a bit of what needs to be clearanced. This was done for a 225/45 hoosier iirc.

V.interesting. How have you sealed around the outside of the extension?? And the part where the filler is: Is that new?? Looks like the lip flipped/bent 180d!?!?! Are you still planning to run the centre-lock rims?? front & back?? I would have thought the 240's would be getting a bit wide for them, let alone wider again on the rear?? eagerly awaiting the next installment ps. I'll find some pics of the area I "beat-up"
-
Exactly, if he puts the 3.07 it will be a slug (3.07x0.82=2.51). I'd be swapping the LSD centre into your 3.64 diff. SRBMW had a place that does it for a good price.
-
Looking good Conrod!! Can you put up some more pics of the rear guard mods. I have edited your front end pic to show where the tyre will rub. I have 18mm steering stops to prevent the chassis rail rubbing, the footwell wall I took to with a 12lb (bit rough but didn't need much). Just giving you a heads up rather than waiting till it's off the spit!!

Legality of Custom BBS RS 16x11 - instant pink sticker?

I think it will come down to the WOF mans determination of whether it is safe or not, and look to the particular tyres fitment range. And if you have an accident it will be at the inspectors discreation. As a rule of thumb look at the tyre fitment range. eg. Toyo T-1S lists a 245/45 & 225/40 R16 for a 7.5-9" rim, if you stick to those widths it would be deemd "safe", a little outside those would possibly be acceptable. Have you also thought of the practicality of using a setup like you propose on NZ roads?? I'm sure it works "fine" on the smooth roads of germany... -
Thanks for the N.W.S. warning on that one gusto!!!!
-
I hope you're running a E36 box (1:1 5th) with that 3.07, otherwise it will have some loooooooong legs!! You might want to thing about swapping the LSD Centre into your diff. I hadn't heard of any 3.07 medium cases (only large cases)!?!?! If it is a medium, you need to swap the rear cover and the 2 output shafts with those from a E30 medium case diff.
-
Depends what you are doing it for!!!! Obviously just to fit some alpina's isn't the most sensible reason. If it were a trackday car, the bigger E36 brakes would be another good reason. If you shocks were rooted and need replacing anyway. Then the likes of cheap alpina's would be the icing on the cake really!!!
-
5lug the 318is when you get it (or any E30) martyyn!!!!! ps. prolly the only time 20's are OK!! http://www.trademe.co.nz/Trade-Me-Motors/C...on-63132638.htm
-
Thats not tight!! 5mm is tight!!! Search the net, I have seen may wiring diagrams to make your own adaptor, the THR one is nice in that it's plug'n'play but of course you pay through the nose for it.

+1 I have the FireFTP and Image Zoom extensions loaded. A couple of guys here have a weather extension and it made firefox go "munted" when it was updated.
