  1. You gotta have the knowledge and the time to check them out. For me its all about finding a well priced tidy one, fixing a few little things myself and then i've got a good car.
  2. That E39 is overpriced for condition but its not start of model run being 1998. No reason you cant get a tidy std E39 540i for around 4k, lots to choose from. The 4.4L pulls alot better than 4.0L too but not as robust.
  3. Been like that for awhile now and the gap is slowly growing with good E34's slowly going up in value. I bought a E39 540i for a daily driver for less than 4k, good value for money cars if you can handle the fuel economy.
  4. People sell repair kits on ebay etc. No idea why E36 etc valve is twice the price of E34 etc though.
  5. I can see why you would do it as its a cheap robust engine with massive torque. Would of preferred it in an E34 myself but least its something different.
  6. Sure maintenance and fuel costs are a bit a higher but a non-vanos 540i is quite a reliable car, too bad there isn't many msport versions around.
  7. If its just for around town then a E46 318i with the M43 engine would be my pick. They are truly slow but get good fuel economy for a heavy car, are reliable and have less potential issues than the 6 cylinders. Possibly easier to sell too.
  8. No way its 14L, more like 10L. You'd only about 4L per drain. How many km on it?.
  9. I doubt the filter would be clogged. They are just a mesh screen in these so ive always just cleaned them out and reused them. Id just change the fluid and see what happens, regular ATF cost is cheap and easy to do with dipstick.
  10. Pains me to look at that ass
  11. Pretty happy with my std E34 535 with 330,000km making 171rwhp(6 less hp than a 3L M54 auto) In my experience with M30's - new ignition components, cleaning injectors, adjusting afm etc has helped restore power. Would of nice to dyno my old 535i with 530,000 on the clock.
  12. Id most people wouldn't care but you can get some anal mofos having a cry over things like that . Same people who probably cry over factory manual conversions, certain engine swaps etc.
  13. Mobil 1 5-40W full synthetic is what i used to use. I think any good quality synthetic 0-10 would be fine, would need about 8L
  14. then you may as well do gearbox bushings and seals if needed.
  15. If you dont care about being slow the M10 is great, reliable, easy to work on and cheaper to repair. Can't say the same for M52.
  16. Sounds like spending your money elsewhere is the best solution if you aren't happy.
  17. They are decent shocks for the coin, i was lucky to get a whole set for $550 on my old E34.
  18. Eagle

    M30B35 engine

No use for this anymore so need it gone. http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing.aspx?id=748793233
  19. I dont think you'd want to touch anything with the N42\N46 engine in it. M42\43\44 maybe slow but at least they are quite reliable.
  20. The average NZ'ers idea of "mint" holds as much merit as their "serviced regularly" definition.
  21. My experiences with the T1-R's and Proxes4 was while the grip decent the sidewall flex was quite noticeable, this on a E30 with 205/50/15 tyres so probably worse on an E46. Last time i looked 16" rims are a pita to get good tyres for and aren't that cheap. Yeah 17" would be better and cheaper but 18's do have more tyre selection.
