It failed the WOF last week (was checked but WOf sheet not written up so not yet in the system). Most serious prob is rust, three bits. Worst is in wheel arch seam behind and right of master cylinder. I've been quoted $400 to repair all three. Also needs steering centre drag link and a few other minor things (Hand brake adjust, very minor leak at fuel pump - hose I suspect, rear shock bump stops) Also now has broken right reverse light but this was after the check, but will no doubt be required for the WOF. The body is starting to show it's age (1988) but the interior is very good, with the excepting of the usual dash cracks. Engine runs very well but the cambelt is due. Auto shifts perfectly. K&N air filter. Has aircon and glass (Saab) sunroof, although I haven't yet finished the install but all the bits are there. 750i brakes up front plus E32 rebuilt calipers which were going on the back but are not yet installed. Shell Helix Ultra in engine, Penrite BMV in trans and Castrol LSX90 in diff. 15 inch cross spokes alloys with near new Falkens on the front.. Towbar installed by me last year and has only been used to tow our small camper trailer you can see in one of the photos. Reg till September. Bluetooth kit not included, but could be for the right price! I'll list it on Trade Me for $1000 but will offer it to Bimmersporters first for offers. I love this car but the WOF and the family means it's time for a wagon. Will consider part trade for nice E34 touring or very nice GTB Legacy manual / Nissan Stagea. Any Q's contact me on 021 971 699. Cheers Rohan

Really? So it doesn't live there normally?

Any one in Hawkes Bay familier with this car? http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing.aspx?id=266944250 I like the look of it, but I'm in Wellington. Also it's a Singapore import so I'm cautious about that. But the price is attractive as is the milage and it sounds like it has a good service history. Too good to be true?

Hi guys, Car failed WOF and this was one of the things it failed on. Weighing up whether to fix it or replace it. Are these difficult to replace? I'm assuming the whole shock and spring assembly has to be lowered down. Can anyone give me an idea approx how many hours work it is for a reasonably competent home mechanic? Also any idea how much they cost? I will check on monday but thought I'd ask anyway. Cheers.

Must be in excellent condition and preferably not needing machining. I'm in Wellington. Cheers

I was thinking pretty late in the production as I want airbags. I love the idea of a 535is (theres one for sale just round the corner) but can't really justify the running costs. Having said that, the more I check out the E38's on TM the more appealing they become. Interestingly, the info I found (parkers.co.uk) on the E38 says that the 740 was most economical, followed by the 730, and lastly the 728. I figure this is all about power to weight but I always thought the 728 was introduced as an 'economy' model.

It's Safari and Chome that I used to use! Now I can only seem to stay logged on with IE. It seems though that I appear to be the only one with this problem so I am going to presume the problem is at my end. Oh and I'm using it from home.Cheers

Thanks guys and welcome Stephan, I enjoyed your 540 pictures. The attraction to the 9000 is the safety record, the price, and the high pressure turbo performance. I like the Volvo 850 and V70 turbos too but they are much more expensive here in NZ. I'm trying hard to find an excuse not to go Japanese but it just gets harder and harder. An M50 E34 is still on the cards though, if I have my way!

Cheers, preference is for manual but I dont like the odds and time will be against me too.The support on here and from sponsors is one of the main reasons I'm looking at another BMW - help is never far away!

Anyone here ahave any experience with these? They seem well spec'd, very safe and cheap but seem to have a bad reliabilty reputation. Cheers

Hey guys want to ask for some general feedback on E34's. This is a 'how longs a piece of string' kinda question, so if your not interested please don't comment. Background: Took the E28 for 'pre' warrent check yesterday and the news is not good. Three areas of structural rust, steering componants and a few other minor things. At this stage I'm thinking probably not economical to repair. So I was looking last night om TM and there seem to be some very good value E34's (and even an few E38's!). There were a number of V8 530's and they seemed well priced. I like to know whether, performance aside, there is any reason why these are better than a similar equiped 525 (M50). I presume they are a bit thirstier. I can't see myself being dissapointed with the performance of a 525 so what are the advantages / disadvantages of the 530. Are they better value because they are perceived to be more costly than a 525 but not a desirable as a 540? Want a touring but don't think time will allow me that at this stage. Any advice and feedback greatly appreciated. Cheers Rohan BTW I may be in the market so if anybody knows of a good one for a fellow bimmersporter please let me know.

I do! Just not quite yet.

I figured it wouldn't be prestine, but the 6 speed TDi is pretty desireable isn't it?

Does this seem excessively cheap to anyone else or am I out of touch. Seems like a bargain! http://www.trademe.co.nz/Trade-Me-Motors/C...n-266060508.htm

Is anyone else having difficulty logging into the site using anything other than Internet Explorer? I used to be able to log on using both Safari and Chrome and now I simply can't log on with these. Has something on the site changed? It's a right pain in the ar*&. Maybe someone has a solution? Cheers

Unbelievably lame.

I had the exact same problem in a Honda Legend (notoriously weak transmissions). The 1st - 2nd clutch pack was shot. There was no easy fix, although this product helped reduce the severity - http://www.lubegard.com/~/C-230/Dr.+Tranny...nt+Shudder+Fixx I think BNT sell it. Like I said, it won't fix a worn clutch pack, but it might reduce the pain until you find another box. Good luck.

+1. My understanding is that it provides 4 alternate spark points so the plug actually 'chooses' the best path depending on engine loading. Or something like that. You can also get plugs with two or three electrodes. I have the Bosch plus 4 ones. Hope I'm not being too serious!

Most important is the centre steering link (tie rod). It's number 11 in the attached photo. Needs to be in excellect condition. Also a fuel pump in good condition. Car is 1988 525ee. Cheers Rohan 021971699

Usually your browser will ask if you want to save the password. Try a different browser. Safari is working well for me at the moment but IE8 is also good and the site is probably designed with it in mind.

Welcome. Great to see another E28! You'll find lot's of help here and loads of info on the manual conversion. Brent and others should be able to help you out with the bits for that. Please put some more photos up of the car. Just remember about the sizing or you might get told off! Anyway good luck. The more cars I drive the better my E28 gets.

Thats a nice Herald. I am a big Triumph fan. I've owned 2 TC's and still lust after a nice Pi or S.

Sorry to hijack this thread (I have no idea what those wires are for) but what is that oil cap from? Is it an E36 or like and does it fit straight onto the M20's? Cheers

Nah they do that for everybody. It's a good marketing ploy actually. If they repair the puncture you feel really good about Tonys because they did it for free. Then there are the times (and it's happened to me) that the puncture is in the sidewall (or you don't know the difference and they convince you it's stuffed anyway) and therefore can't be repaired and must be replaced - as a pair! So what are you going to do. Your car is on a hoist with wheel and tyre off? Your gonna ask them to replace it (them). Clever marketing. Plus they get their sticker on your car for everybody else to see.

Surely Commodore steelies came in 16's? Same stud pattern.
