Anyone in Wellington keen to do a group shot? I'm thinking firstly E28's then if that's a no-go a shot of all generations of 5's together and then if that doesn't come off, I dunno, something else cool? I'd be keen to spend some time getting my E28 looking good (although one side is better that the other) so if anybody's keen let me know. Also the highest res camera I have is 4 mp so If some one had something better...

Did they do a B10 bi-turbo touring? The four door is also on my wish list. As well as any E28 Alpina... oh god what am I talking about! Anything with an M badge, Alpina, Hartge is on my wish list. And that's just BMW's!

Mmm very nice. On my wish list for wagons is a E34 M5 Touring but I'd get pretty weak at the knees for an E39 Alpina D10 Touring.

Or this http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/BMW-M5-Saloon-Orinoc...id=p3286.c0.m14

If someone could edit that title for me I'd appreciate that. Cheers

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/BMW-540i-Estate-Tour...id=p3286.c0.m14 Now that's a wagon. If you can't stretch to an M5 that is.

Brent did you say it started life as a 535iA? The guy is stating in the auction that it's a factory manual. Probably doesn't make any difference although if someone really wants a genuine 535iS it might.

Sorry for the repost, just popped up in my emails from Trademe.

I've been thinking about getting one of these but this seems pretty pricey, given the milage. http://www.trademe.co.nz/a.aspx?id=238087507 Also the person selling it seems to think that being LHD somehow adds to the value. The seats are bit worn and the paint's obviously not original. The km's are over 200k. Any thoughts on the price?

Have to confuse I only replaced the piston seals. The dust boots were in perfect condition and cleaned up nicely. I didn't want to take any chances with the old piston seals so I went down to ABC here in Wellington with the old seals and the pistons and they had replacements for about $7 each. A rebuild kit for the fronts was around $65+ gst and the rears around $110+ gst so I decided just to do the piston seals. I was surprised at the price difference considering the front pistons and seals are twice the size of the rears. Guess the extra is for the little metal clips for seating the dust boot! If and when the dust boots go I won't really have any other option than to get the whole kit. Repco may sell them, and if they are TRW they might be ok but I'd get a price from BMW (some of their prices for the older parts cars can be pretty good), BNT are always really helpful, and my prices were from Interpart in Lower Hutt. Hope this helps.

DX3 is the spec and the most common type. Glenn's suggestion is good. I use Penrite BMV which is a semi synthetic Penrite claim is specifically formulated for ZF transmissions. I'm happy with it, shifts are very smooth. Can be ordered through Supercheap. From memory it's about $45 for 4 litres plus frieght. I generally use around 3 litres per service. You'll need a lot more if your filling from empty.

Just e34 cross spokes.Don't temp me with the others.... got a photo?

Thanks man! Sand blaster would have been so good! I guess if you do that just make certain that no sand gets left behind anywhere inside the caliper. And if you have a mate with a spray booth that even sweeter.

Or preferably borrow! I need 2 wheels with tyres to use on my E28 while I paint my current ones. Don't need to be alloys. I only need them while I paint so if I can't borrow any I'll buy some but only if very very cheap. Cheers

Finally, after many, many hours of hard labour my front brakes are basically ready to go on. After cleaning, then wire brushing (power drill type) back to bare metal twice (they literally start rusting overnight!), then four coats, baking and reassembly (which I actually now enjoy) I have finished the fronts. Thought I'd put up a few pics as I'm pretty happy with the results so far and my partner just thinks I'm completely insane. The rears have also been prepared but I ran out of gold paint so they will have to wait for another tin. It was actually very satisfying . Hope I don't bore too many people. Cheers.

The 14 inch Alpina style wheels come up from time to time. I always thought they looked great on the E21. Save it as a favourite on trade me.

Classic.I live in Wellington so I've never taken my car to Glenn, but I think he has more than earned the right to 'rant' if he feels like it. He has helped me with several queries I've had on here and countless other people as well. The fact is, if you phoned the dealer, specialist or any other workshop the likely answer you would get is "bring it down and we'll have a look" for which you would be charged. Glenn gives his advice out here for free and if his best suggestion is get it scanned I say do it. Why else would you be here if not to 'glean' the advice of those with the knowledge. And that's my two cents. Santa Clause, hehe.

+1.I like it how it is, although I'd been open to hearing other suggestions.

I'm a fan of Yokohama but others here have more experience then I. I'm sure you will get plenty of good advice.

Hi guys I'd be interested in hearing other experience and whether I should be checking anything? The thing is, I understand the capacity of the M20B27 with filter change is around 4.25 litres. Mine has consistently taken 5 to 5.5 litres at change. I've never had any issues with it so I'm not too worried but I thought I'd just see what people think. Any thoughts? Cheers.

I just did this yesterday. Piece of cake. Easier than an engine oil change. Used this webpage http://www.dvatp.com/bmw/diy/power_steering_flush/ I did The "Optimal Flush" and certainly most of the capacity drained out. The fluid was ok to start with. If it was really dirty I'd be inclined to do it again, but 4 litres of ATF is cheap so I could easily do that.
