After lurking in the shadows for the last two years and checking daily to see if my favorite build threads had any updates I thought id give this a go myself! Now before I start rambling I would like to acknowledge the public hatred towards compact's, Yes they are hideous and this one is defiantly not the coolest one In NZ but its my ugly duckling and it has provided me with connections to the most amazing people in this community and wealth's of knowledge that can not learnt from YouTube..... So we begin How It Began: While Making a quick trip to Weitz industries to grab a few bits for my 130 I noticed a small little compact sitting in the corner waiting to be harvested before turning into a coke can, At the time gas prices were at an all time High and the thought of a small economical German Rear wheel drive sounded like the perfect solution! Despite being warned by Nick that the condition was unknown and it was sold strictly as a parts car I already had my heart set on It and turned a blind eye to all the negatives while convincing my partner with the positives! While not entirely convinced she said yes and I was able to drive it home😀 After making a quick stop at the gas station I drove the short 4km home loving every second of it, Despite owning multiple Bmw's and having the 130i as a daily driver I couldn't help but notice how nimble and zippy it was! For a car that was sold as a entry level 90's Bmw the quality and handling already outdid much more expensive Toyota hatchbacks 10 years Newer! Unfortunately that's pretty much the last time I got to enjoy the Efficient 1.8L. While I was to busy admiring the absolute bargain I had scored the car was pouring white smoke the entire way home, after a quick investigation it was obvious that the 257,000km M44 blew its head gasket while I was gutted this finally gave me the opportunity to do what I had been scheming since I saw the car.. Hi everyone, My dearly loved Series 4 Grand Coupe has finally reached the time to have all the brake's renewed. I dreaded the day and here it is. The car is from 2017 and out of warranty, so I was thinking to bringing it to an independent mechanic rather than official dealer but the cost still is way over 2,000 dollars, which leaves me wishing I could afford it but that might take quite a few months savings. I brought it to a workshop here in Wellington to be checked and was told it needs all four changed, rotor, pads, the lot. Any advice on how to get that cost down somehow? Any of you have advice on how to change those yourself? Is it doable? Or perhaps getting the parts from overseas (how to get the right one..?) and then bringing the car to have them fitted somewhere? I am really in uncharted territory here and for now I will keep the car in the garage as I do not want to risk driving around with worn brakes.. Really appreciate any info/advice on this! Thank you very much, Joan

Hi all I am trying to track down my Fathers old M325i he bought it new in 1990 its a red 1990 M325i now with the plate HOT325. the odds are not in my favor as it hasn't had a WOF in 4 years and rego in 2. Which breaks my heart knowing its sitting somewhere rotting (or maybe someone has converted into a race car?). Unfortunately NZTA wont tell the anything about the Owner as of a law put in place in 2010, Carjam is also effected by this law. I'm based in Auckland. Any info on this car would be greatly appreciated!

I just brought my E30 320i from turners auctions for rather cheap but I can see why! There is bad rips on the drivers seat and rear seat doesn't look to flash either. I think I will replace all the seats and door trims to match, Im thinking black leather? There is also multiple small dings and rust patches around the car but nothing a little panel and paint work wont fix! After getting the car in nice condition I will probably look at lowering it a little and getting some nice wheels(currently on bottle caps). Also gonna look at some anti sway bars etc. I will upload some pics of it this weekend but here are the turners auctions one. Already looks much better then these pics after a thorough clean inside and out. As well as getting rid of those awful seat covers!

Hi everyone, I need some help. I purchased BMW 120i sports (2012 year) from a dealer in Auckland in September 2019. Since last few weeks I have been getting Flat Tyre Monitor (RPA) Failure and ABS (Drive stabilisation and Drive moderately) notification. After doing some online research regarding the tyre sizes I found out the tyres that were fitted in my car were 225/55/R17 and these measurements were not listed in the recommended tyre size list by BMW (found this list on the car body close to driver seat). Then took the car to the dealer he said they are wrong size tyres. He replaced the tyres to 225/45/R17. Since I purchased I have only driven roughly 7000 km. He said after changing the tyres to the right sizes the error will go away but it didn't. The failure notifications still shows up. The dealer advised I will have to pay for the fixing the failure. I am not sure if the failure is due to the car been driven with wrong size tyres or the sensors have failed overtime. He also mentioned the ABS and FTA sensors are separate which I don't agree with him. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance. Notification images attached.

Hi, I have recently sold my E92 as I need more space for growing family. I'm looking for an E91 335i 2009 or newer. I have found one on TradeMe but the current owner says it does have some Waste Gate rattle. Should I avoid this or do nearly all N54 have this issue? I would like to run this as is for the next year or two before going single turbo so don't really want to spend the money rebuilding the turbos etc.

Hi everyone, just wondering what is the best place to buy replacement/extra keys for the E9x model series of BMW... I know that they will do it at dealerships but I don't really want to pay the premium that they charge.

Hi team! Thank you very much for letting me join this wonderful group. Cars I've got are: 320i E46 M54B22 Sedan/Saloon 2000 No issues with this one except engine light comes on and off but no known mechanical issues. In the process of fitting new CCV hoses and also changing to a new engine oil level sensor. 530i E39 M54B30 Sedan/Saloon 2001 This one had a lot of issues but getting things done. One big thing I'm currently doing is the conversion of the remote key. changing from the infrared remote control to the radio frequent remote control. I had a post to the other page following someone's DIY on e46 one which I'm trying to do on my e39. Nice to meet you all BMW lovers!

Hi All, Thank you for accepting me to this group. Happy to be a part of the BMW family. Looking forward to find some answers to some of my questions about this fantastic car. Bought my first BMW and first car last August. So far so good. However, I've had issues with the aircon gasket cover as it was leaking oil and had to be replaced. Seems like a known issue as per the BMW guy from New Market. Also I find the speakers little weak. Will check the forums for any recommendations, upgrade ootions etc. Also, I have updated my Gracenote to 01/15 in CIC as it is not up to date. Anyone who has updated version, please let me know. I still use CDs. ? Will attach some photos

So, after a long time of thinking, I've come to the decision of saving up for a JDM till the end of this year, but a part of me still wants to get a BMW. I've been scouring Trade Me and the Facebook Marketplace for cars, and I came across a 1998 318ti E36 that's selling for $1200 in the same city as me, and has been driving it from Hamilton to Tauranga for a bit. It has 206xxx km's and according to the seller, the only problems are that it has a "rough idle" and that the power steering will need to be sorted out in the near future. I also asked the guy and this E36 has an M42. He's selling it because he doesn't want an extra car lying around, as much as he was planning to keep it. Do you think it would be worthwhile buying a good cheap E36 with a small engine as a first car? Also, how much would it cost to fix the power steering of Another plus is the fact that a bunch of BMW enthusiasts live 2 blocks away, and we have family friends that can work with cars, one owns an auto shop. Any advice on this?

I am a university student looking into what to get as a first car, and one of the models I'm considering along with an Audi A4 and a few JDM's (Honda Integra & Prelude, Toyota Celica & Altezza, Nissan Silvia & Primera) is an old BMW 3 series from around the 90's or 2000, depending on what's available I guess. I see a lot of used BMW 3 series' for sale on Trade Me Motors, which are mostly around the 90's and early 2000's. Is there anything I need to know about daily driving and maintaining a 3 series ( from the 90's and early 2000's) that might important for me to consider? I hear from friends and family friends that BMW's are costly to maintain in NZ because of parts or something, but I want the BMW enthusiast community's opinion in this, as I don't know a lot about maintaining and owning European cars in NZ. I'm not gonna get a car till sometime at the end of this year (hopefully) or maybe even next year, depending on how soon I can get a part-time job, so I have lots of time to decide.
