Hi team. Hope everyone is safe and well. It is almost coming to the end of the year and I’m slowly updating my e30 and sadly my transmission started to play up. I have an intension of fully rebuilding it. But I was wondering if I can source a second hand one in meantime while I rebuild the current one. My E30 is 325i couple Mtech 2 and has a zf4hp22 EH. Have ordered a second hand one through trade supplier and unfortunately turned up with the zf4hp22 but for 4 cylinder one. (Bell housing is totally different so not going to work…) Is anyone have the transmission that I need that I can buy? Will check again with supplier for another one that’s right fit for my car, thought I’d try here. Please note: I have no intention of doing manual swap at this stage, yes it’s probably better but want to keep the car original no modifications. If you have seen my car in Chch you know what I mean… Part number is 24001216597. Thanks in advance.

Trying to clear out a few cars worth of spares from our shed. Largely various 320 Have absolutely all sorts, lights to ECUs to trims doors etc etc. Heaps of spare B20 engine parts all in varying states of repair, would prefer to clear out everything to be used rather than scrapped. No manual parts, and not many sedan or interior parts either as I am keeping spares for mine. Most parts have been in sheds for 20 years so varying conditions and as is. Wanting to clear so happy to just give out bits and bobs to anyone who collects. Pickup in The Awamutu for anything substantial, welcome to come have a browse through. For posts sake $75 each for ECUs, but please ask/offer and I'll have a look for anything.

Hi all, Been a while since I've posted here. My other project is still a work in progress, however decided to put that on hold and start a new project that's more suitable for family life! I'll update here, more as a journal for myself to look back on. Recently I picked up Malachite Green Touring on trademe that had partly been stripped out - no engine, gearbox, diff and the interior was very average but a good chassis and base to work from. the plan was to tidy up the paint, fix up the interior and pop an engine in it - likely an M40/42 and keep it fairly stock. As it was missing a bunch of bits, it would have been a fairly slow job collecting what was needed and getting bits and pieces done. Things changed when this Lagune Green Touring popped up a few days later that had almost every single part I needed, including a stroked 2.8L engine, gearbox, LSD, black door cards, nice rear seats, touring specific carpet/boot panels, and some body panels I needed. I couldn't say no to that! Unfortunately the chassis is probably beyond repair, but this was worth it to me in the parts alone. First job was to stocktake what's there. I created an excel sheet of everything so I can keep track of what I need of which car. E.g. Valance off Lagune, Bonnet off Malachite, front seats off Malachite, rear seats off Lagune etc. Once I got both cars to one location, the strip down began. Decided to go for a full panel and paint but keep the Malachite colour - I've never seen an E30 in this colour before and love it! Having the two cars together meant I can compare parts side by side and pick the best parts. Currently waiting on my painter to free up his current jobs so we can move onto this set. While that happens, we're waiting for engine parts to arrive (water pumps, hoses etc) to get the engine in Lagune running again, as it's been sitting for about a year. Fingers crossed there's no major issues as it's been rebuilt not that long ago. Worst case I have a spare M40 which can go in. Due to time, I can only visit the cars one day every couple weeks, but will be working on cleaning up some of the parts (carpets/Door Cards/Smiley Lights) in the Lagune that I will keep in the final build at home to keep be busy between visits. I'll be needing some recommendations - first up is a decent headlining restorer - based in Auckland/South Auckland that can do work on site. Windscreen will be getting replaced and sunroof swapped out for a fibreglass panel so would be good to get it done at the same time. I'd like to get a period correct material and ideally someone that's done this on an E30 before. Will post more as I get along!

Hi team. Arata here again with issues with my E30 (again haha). Believe or not I'm having issues with fuel pump(s) failing relatively quickly. From the previous owner to during my ownership, went through 4 pumps through last 3 years. First one lasted 2 years+. That time around the fuel tank was rusty which I did not clean that time. Second one lasted a week and died. Tested 12v directly and not even powering or moving at all. 3rd one and 4th one the pump was still somewhat working but not flow rate was down. (this time around the tank was taken out and cleaned thoroughly, no visual rust build up at this stage) First and second one was from trade me (nz shop), the other two was Icon series. Have already tested the fuel pressure regulator and is still working fine. Have replaced fuel filter frequent enough at the same time as fuel pumps, obviously with fuel filter facing right way of direction. I will definitely consider checking the tank and give another cleaning but just wondering those who owns E30s out there that have replaced their fuel pumps, which brand you guys used? Will talk to the shop to see if they can swap with new one under warranty but if the brand is the issue then I would get either genuine one or high performance one. Also wee question, what is the fuel pump check valve? Is this in-build inside the electric pump itself? Or is it the fuel breather? Some people suggested that put the check valve in the fuel line but not sure if that is ideal. Any suggestions or ideas much appreciated. Thanks team! Arata the crazy Japanese guy

Hey team. My 325i died on Friday night (some people might have seen me at Pak n Save getting towed haha). Did quick diagnostics while I was waiting for tow truck to come. Cranking forever and not starting. Funny enough I’ve already replaced fuel pump and fuel pressure regulator and other normal maintenance items so I’ve scratching my head. Got it towed back home, yesterday morning I’ve checked the usual things as it follows… All relays working. Fuse and relay for fuel pump is getting power while cranking as well as at connector end. I added direct power to the pump and I can hear the pump moving. Checked the fuel filter and it wasn’t the dirtiest as I’ve replaced about 1 year ago. But did some rust came out. So put everything connected again and disconnected the fuel hose to the regulator and injector rail, fuel not getting to the engine. So took out the pump again and this time I dipped in the fuel in the bucket and added the power directly, the pump motor moved but guess what, it’s back flowing from where inlet supposed to suck in the fuel to the outlet, this point I believe the fuel pump is damaged somewhat and I think bit of rust in the tank is the problem. I’ve already ordered the pump so hopefully I can at least test to see if anything else is the issue but meantime just wanted to see how you clean the tank inside. Any suggestions welcome. Thanks team.

I am swapping my M52 motor into my E30 and was wondering if I could also swap the suspension too. I know the rear should fit just fine but as far as I've seen nobody makes front tophats to fit E36 coilovers. Is there anyone who has done what I am talking about to their E30? If so how did you do it and does anyone know of a company that might sell what I need? Any help is appreciated, thank you!

Hi team. It’s time for me to start attacking on maintenance/repairs on my E30. Long story short, my heater core valve (or water valve, whatever it’s called) gave up couple of weeks ago, decided to go over and replace what I should be replacing for the cooling system. I’ve just replaced the radiator, heater core, heater core valve, new o rings for fitting, 2 temperature sensors on top of the thermostat housing, expansion tank and level sensor. Please note that I’ll do the water pump and timing belt at the same time soon. Thermostat is less than 1 year old and all parts are OEM from FCP Euro. Have bled the system multiple times with front of the engine up on jack stands, and it seemed that I didn’t overheat the engine which is good relief, no leaking. However, there’s little cold to warm air from the vent at full hot setting. I’m getting hot at upper and lower heater core pipes, and the heater core of course is getting hot, all other coolant hoses are hot as well. The other things I’ve noticed was the temperature gauge on dash is now 1/4 to 2/3 towards coldest mark, which indicating that the it’s not getting at full operational temperature. I have gone for test drive for good 4 hours today, still no sign of overheating but the gauge never got in the middle, and no change of heater bringing hot air. It’s staying like warm to cold. I have spare old thermostat which I’ll swap them over and see if it changes anything but I doubt it. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

Hi team. Recently got a very tidy E30 LHD 2 door sedan 325i Mtech2 (m20b25). Of couse it comes with issues and here goes haha... When starting the engine, it starts on the first go fine whether it is cold or hot, but dies within 5 - 10 seconds after. Key off again and switches back on, starts fine and doesn't die from there. Things I've already done on this car... New fuel pump, fuel filter and fuel hoses around the pump and fuel filter. New fuel pressure regulator. New idle control valve. New spark plugs. (Coils/HT leads/Distributor/Rotors are less than 2 years old and checked fine) I also put the total system cleaner through fuel tank and did make better and so far starts and runs fine on the first go. I'm thinking maybe the injectors are leaking as I can smell bit of fuel around the engine bay (not all the time). Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

I think I got this from Garagistic from memory however once I lowered my car I figured any lower was going to become impractical so never fitted it. . Located in Wellington. Would rather pick up but I'm sure i can wrangle some cardboard to ship at buyers risk. (NB: No hardware, just the lip itself. But as oer Andy's write up, you want stainless hardware) Andy did a great write up on how to install here:

Hi Guys, I've decided that I need another E30 in my life, and this time I planning to do it right. Rewind to 6 weeks ago, some friends and I are having a few drinks on a Friday evening. One friend was browsing facebook and mentioned that he found a '96 328i factory manual for sale. Only $1000 he said. This sounded too good to be true....and it was...sorta... The car was water damaged - I'm not 100% on the details, but something something Dunedin floods. Surely if it's a factory manual, the manual parts alone would be worth the money and effort. I thought about it for a while, and then tried to convince myself that it was a stupid idea and to forget about it...I failed. I called the guy, and told him I would take the car and pick it up tomorrow. The car was located in a wreckers yard in Dunedin. I managed to persuade a friend of mine with access to a car trailer and shop to make the trek from Christchurch down to Dunedin with me the next morning. Jumping forward a couple of days and this is my view: After decoding the VIN number of the car, it turned out the car was actually a factory automatic and must've been converted at some point. We started tearing into the car, and it quickly be came evident that, yes, this car was very water damaged. A thin layer of silt covered everything. As we dug deeper, things started to look worse (not unexpectedly). We found water sitting atop cylinder 1's intake valves, but 2-6 all looked perfectly fine. Draining the sump resulted in roughly 10L of water with mixed about 6L of chocolate milk...not great. Further investigation found that the car has a ZF 310 5 speed transmission, an OEM 328i dual-mass flywheel + clutch. Cool, at least the conversion looks like it was done properly. At this point I still hadn't decided what I wanted with to the parts from this car, But I'd been looking for a project car, and I felt I needed another E30 in my life. As it turned out, my friend's father has this little beauty that he's willing to sell. It's by no means perfect, but it's a straight, rust free, registered, '89 318i automatic coupe in my favourite colour (Delphin grey). A good starting point for my project E30. Jumping back to the present, I've pulled the engine and drivetrain out of the 328. The engine is sitting on a stand, and I intend on stripping it down and rebuilding it. Once it's ready, I plan to swap it into the E30 with the manual transmission. From there I plan to do new suspension, med-case LSD, wheels + tyres, and general tidying up. Eventually I would like to have the car's paint redone as it's a little rough in places. Looking at the task at hand, I know I have a fair bit of work ahead of me. But I'm ready for the challenge! Any help finding the various 24v swap components would be great. I know I need the sump, oil pickup, dipstick, and throttle cable from a 525i E34. Not 100% on what to do about the brake booster, although moving it over a bit seems like the easiest solution. The water-damaged ECU is toast, so I need a new one. I would like to keep OBD2. Thinking of getting a (red-label?) ECU and having it flashed (EWS delete, rear O2 delete, M50 manifold, maybe even a higher redline?) E28 535i engine mounts seem to be the way to go, although I've read mentions of an additional spacer is required? Subframe reinforcement is also something I want to do. I would like to use as much of the 328i's factory exhaust as possible as it's still in good condition. Not sure how much of a plain it would be to chop it up. I want to use the E36 radiator and do an electric puller fan conversion.

Hi folks, had this a while but just been tarting it up, sold the convertible, no use to me during winter and was after a decent unmolested E30 as my daily and found this little gem, just a baby 318i auto (for now) - came on bottle caps but stumbled across mint 15" basketweaves (the mrs was talking to her hairdresser who had some under his house for years, lucky find!), removed the go-faster stripes it had and did a 4 stage cut and polish while the weather was nice. Sourced a decent stereo to match the orange light interior (from Bonnie Scotland of all places - matches really well and fixed up a couple of glovebox torches - got a mint reupholstered mtech steering wheel (from Ireland) via ebay and currently in the process of getting some msport seats reupholstered in the original indigo stoff fabric, also fixed the stuck odo with some new gears - will be a little near - minter when done - oh yea, and got some front fogs coming too
