I have spent alot of time, effort and of course money building what I believe is the ultimate version of the ultimate M car. IMO anyway. If anyone whom has a e39 M5 or similar and needs some advice to upgrades etc...just ask! If it's worth doing I have either done it or have plans to! oh - PPS - sorry no she's not for sale. I have raced mine for about 2 years now, on and off. Currently the motor is getting rebuild due to a part failure however they are seriously awesome cars to drive on the limit.Let me know if you need any advice, I've pretty much been there and done that with the GTR. Sammy J 1 Report post Posted June 7, 2010 What was involved in getting it to 2.8? was the much mid range gain? We have an rb26dett r34 gtr and it needs more boogie..got about 500hp t the moment. By the way, stunning M5.
M5V8 337 Report post Posted June 7, 2010 (edited) What was involved in getting it to 2.8? was the much mid range gain? We have an rb26dett r34 gtr and it needs more boogie..got about 500hp t the moment. By the way, stunning M5.cheers mate.Mine is a 2.8 tomei kit. It's a stoker crank with 87mm pistons. HKS do one as well. You need a good condition block (you don't want to go above 87mm) unless you get a N1 block. You need a good machinist as you need to clearance the bottom of the block for the extra throw of the crank. Boost comes on about 500 - 1000rpm earlier....torque is the big winner tho and why you do it. I have smallish response turbos and she will pull in any gear from about 2000rpm to the redline. Miss a gear? wrong gear? No problems....!! There's plenty of talk around nissan forums whether a V-cam head or stroker is better .... for me since I wanted to strengthen the bottom end and use the car for sprint racing it was a no brainer to spend a bit more to get the added torque. You could just go a thicker head gasket and stuff more boost to get more power out of your 2.6 but it will be more peaky power. If you are thinking a rebuild anyway then investigate the costs. It turned out to only be a few thousand more over a 2.6 rebuild for me, but it's all personal preference as well as what the exchange rate is at!
