Actually changed it out on Saturday, then again on Sunday while I worked out why the new (aftermarket ) regulator wouldn't work, and finally today, when I sucked it up and got a used regulator from a wrecker. gjm 3258 Report post Posted April 10, 2018 Tried - several times - to change the mid-fuel-pump and fuel filter on the 320d. Rain stopped play on several occasions, and left the work area awash more than once. Thought I'd be smart and remove the pump and filter as a single unit (with connecting fuel hose) and refit the same way. Finally got the cover off only to find the power connector for the fuel pump has some sort of fancy lock-it-together clip that you just cannot see the working of unless you are above it, which is where the floor of the car is. Eventually got that off, but more weather means that is as far as I've got. Other than swearing about BMWs ridiculous one-use-only crimp-type fittings they use on pipes on cars... gjm 3258 Report post Posted April 17, 2018 OK... Sorta sorted the fuel hose connections. Not just the oetiker clamps, but also two sizes of jubilee clips, and some one-way screwdriver clips that may have an oval-shaped head. Hard to tell. They're all the bloody same now, though. Damage: driving on SH1, impact damage sustained (bullseye and crack 15-20mm) from flying debris. Insurance: Car fully insured including glass cover. Called insurer, lodged claim. Asked who my preferred repairer is, nominated Winger as local BMW dealer. Repairer: Supplied claim number to dealer, who then assessed and quoted. Replacement screen recommended. Quote process and approval managed by dealer, furnishing my claim number. Once quote accepted, dealer updated me on process, then ordered new screen, booked appointment with me *after* they'd taken delivery of screen and confirmed no transit damage. Repair: I elected to leave vehicle overnight to leave additional time for sealant to cure. Genuine BMW screen fitted. Point of difference: new exterior seal/trim installed. Whenever I've had a Smith & Smith replacement, they say "nah we don't do that/can't get that/not part of the job" and burgerise around with old seal/trim. Plus the standard Smith & Smith poor service, glass left in car or tools left in car... Contrast this with BMW dealer finishing touches new replacement WoF sticker fitted, and Rego label holder fitted, both sensibly positioned. Clean car, no broken glass left behind or rattling in vents, no tools left in car. And of course that wander around the showroom (with my kids, on collection), and courtesy ride back in to town on drop-off. If I drank coffee, a complimentary coffee too. A good service experience. Summary: the BMW Dealer experience significantly better than run-of-the-mill "windscreen specialist". Not to mention great service from AA Insurance. I received some great prelim advice from BMW Car Club NZ members. Now I just need to clean & Rain-X the new screen, and fit new set of BMW wiper blades from my parts stash. Olaf 3315 Report post Posted April 20, 2018 e46: I've just cleaned and rain-x'd the screen, and installed new BMW wiper blades. It's not clearing correctly; so I'm consulting my Bentley manual for correct position and torques of the arm-to-shaft securing nuts (30Nm or 22 ft-lb). Bentley (being US) states Front wiper blade tip to gasket distance for Right = 24mm, Left = 44mm. I guess they're reversed down here! Olaf 3315 Report post Posted April 24, 2018 (edited) So this morning, after a knock on the door from the courier, I did this to my 2002 (LCI) e46 325i Touring: The reason I got these was: A 16 year-old Original Equipment LHS front indicator unit this morning, looking a bit foggy and worse for wear. PN 63137165847 A 16 year-old Original Equipment RHS front indicator unit this morning, looking slightly foggy and impact damaged. PN 63137165848 These were 18 Euro each (NZD29) for the TYC units (which are German TÜV approved), and eliminating the condensation and cracking keeps my car legal, so it won't have any WoF issues. The part numbers (2001-2005) are different from the US market ones. for info: RH= 63137165848 LH= 63137165847 I chose aftermarket (for a change), rather than Original Equipment, or the OEM option... these were cheap enough that I could have them lobbed in to the box with my new Steering Coupler. Which I purchased abroad as the $60 saving paid for these two indicator housings. Though I like to support our local dealers and BMW NZ, I just couldn't swing it on this occasion. What's the score with the Airbag recall? new wheel has had current, freshly recalled (last year) airbag fitted. so i'm sorted old air bag needs checking first and foremost, i forgot to take it to dealer. so will do tomorrow. they will check but can only perform recall on vehicles once (recall is vehicle aligned not airbag aligned). if airbag i did get with the MF wheel does need to be recalled it'll have to go to a car that hasn't had one yet or be disposed of. if it doesn't need recalling i will sell with the steering wheel that came out of my car. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
