I thought it was kinda cool how it looks like it's abandoned

If you want, I'll try yours out, so you can see how cool it looks ;)

What is wrong with a Lexus engine?

I have one.

It's lovely.

ive done lots of them before thats not what i was meaning my impression was the car was getting a bmw v8 to keep with it being different to stand out as such

What's wrong with an M62?

yep pretty much all i was meaning was staying BMW for the whole build not hybrid the project as everyone does that these days.

It would nice to see the BMW flag flying with 100% BMW without seeing the usual jap stuff added then it doesnt really represent what the car stands for.

+1 for keeping it OEM. Credit where it's due to Micheal (hell, I wouldn't complain if he threw me the keys!!!!) but the extra 25ci seals the deal for me. Damned if everyone else isn't doing my dream project before I can afford to!!

(Not meaning to knock your efforts with your coupe man, reckon it's a killer job you've done with the car so far - more please! :) )

TBH there is better choices out there. I think the 1UZ is over rated in standard form.

+1 and a s50b32 on steroids would have been a better pick

Glad to see they went for Toyota V8. It's quite a good combination if I say so myself.

But like what Troy and crunchy said above, you're not wrong, they are pretty slack in factory spec. The stock ECU which I still have is ridiculously soft in its tune, the head inlets and outlets are undersized and the cam profiles are very economy minded. You need to spend a bare minimum of 5k on the engine (ecu, intake, cams, exhaust) just to get it up and going to the same level as a M6X which out of the box are already 50hp/50nm+ or so ahead.

Originally I would have liked the idea of a M60 or better yet M62, but it's a bigger investment and I don't know the M6X series as well as I know the 1UZ having owned 5 lofty Toyota models with that motor as stock... but like you guys mentioned the originality, a BMW with BMW internals is that much more special....

Having learnt what I've have with this relatively easy conversion it wouldn't be too difficult to give it a M6X shot when its time for the next project E36. Surely Ray could supply me a M62 with the ZF auto? Hah Posted Image

that's exactly what i thought is was all about proving a point shame would have gotten a lot more support from the BMW family if they went down that road but in saying that your car in its own right Michael is pretty dam good.

hmmm was kind of hoping they would stick with a german donk but I guess I can understand with the cost and he had something already tuned and ready to go. Probably only needed another 10k thrown at it and it would of made a badass BMW only turbo conversion.

Oh well. Some one will someday.

Maybe I should turbo my s50b32 . . . .

Latest update: Making a Mess.

M62 could still be on the cards. They`re keen to see how the B8 replica turns out.

Very nice bit of progress there.

So they are still tossing up between the 1uz and M62?

How interesting :)
