Hoping these will last a while... not cheap.

Do you change the tyres yourself?

Next project for the M5 - Operation Neighbour friendly.

Currently running no rear mufflers or cats, it's quite obnoxious for my liking.

Scored a set of stock rear cans, which together with no cats should produce a nice V8 tone.

The mufflers were water blasted previously so they will need to be re-painted with high-temp paint. Spent yesterday stripping the remaining pieces of paint off.

I'm really happy with it. Although the dyno results don't really show much of an improvement due to the environmental conditions, the on road experience is much improved, especially in the mid-range.

Good to hear, they have a lot of support in the UK. I was considering a primary cat Delete + a tune. Would you think that an M5 owner who drove your car and then drove their own again would be compelled to buy the tune from the experience?

In the same environmental conditions, absolutely!

The response and torque from 2k rpm onwards is greatly improved. This was the first thing I noticed when I uploaded the new sw.

On the dyno, power doesn't dramatically tapper off like it used to at the top end of the rpm range.

Still waiting on a brand-new set of rear heat shields to arrive before the stock rear mufflers go back in.

Once the mufflers go in, the car will be laid up for a few weeks to undergo a bit of maintenance. I removed the cover of the plenum and found a little more oil in the plenum than I'm used to. I removed the runner from cylinder # 5 and opened the throttle plate :

oil%20in%20plenum%20and%20TB%20cyl%205.j

As you can see it's quite oily in and around the throttle body so I while the plenum is off I'll do the following service :

- replace oil separators along with ALL related hoses (The separators were cleaned last year and the large hoses were replaced)

- Check all vacum hoses, replace any that are damaged.

- Remove and send fuel injectors away for full servicing.

- Clean the ICV

- Remove all the oil build up from the throttle bodies, and fuel injector ports

- When re-assembled run 2 cans of Subaru upper injector cleaner through the engine to clean carbon buildup from the exhaust valves

- Reset adaption values

Hard to find a pic, but the above one is for a non msport model, the msport one looks like the single pipe version of the M5 muffler

Stock rear mufflers going in today. Also some maintenance work to be carried out this weekend :

The lower oil separator hoses look like fun to replace... I suspect some cursing at crimp-type hose clamps nested down in a tight space will be the order of the day.

Stock rear exhaust system is now in place. What a difference these things make to the sound. No more 60's muscle car racket. The car is maybe 5% louder than stock.

New heat shields ex Germany going in place :

Left side muffler fitted :

Both mufflers fitted ready for welding in place :

The centre section had a small leak from the clamping bush, so these were also replaced :

Mufflers fitted :

Another angle :

Also started carrying out some maintenance work, replaced both oil separators and the lower drain hose on bank 2. It took over an hour just to get the crimped hose clamp off using a screwdriver. the hose was basically glued on so I had to cut it off using a hobby knife. I used a worm-type hose clamp to replace the crimped hose clamp, that took another hour of fiddling to get it to seal on the oil drain tube (black pipe in the pic). Bank 1 is going to be even worse as there is a vacum hose in the way, will save that for another day.

After the maintenance work done on the weekend and forgetting to reconnect the MAF plugs it seemed weird that car still ran very well. A scan revealed no fault codes for MAF signals.... Turns out that Evolve automotive by mistake gave me the aplha-n package along with the power tune. Awesome! Now I just need to save up for a set of these :

Maintenance order placed for a few things under the bonnet. In the mean time, swapped out the incandescent interior and boot bulbs for some led's. Perhaps LED blue/white colour is not the best against a caramel coloured interior? I will also be replacing the boot ceiling light with a brighter item.

Pics came out a bit shyte....

White light would be okay but the blue looks a bit odd in the pics with your caramel leather! I also noticed when I followed you back from Hamilton that your license plate LEDs are so bright it completely whites out the plate. Great if you get speed camera'd I guess, but you might get pinged by the cops for that sooner or later.

Well the copper who got me for speeding that same day didn't say anything... Still I need the LCM4 module to be able to turn off the annoying flickering it does for the number plate LED's and the front Halo's.

I might retain the incandescent bulbs for the interior with the exception of the puddle lights - They have improved the lighting significantly. If I can get a brighter LED for the ceiling boot I'll probably stick with LED's in there too.

Lookin' good. The blue LED's dont look too bad but the thought of blue and caramel color sounds weird - think whites would look good. I was thinking of ordering some of the LED's too, off ebay for my 530 interior (where did you source your's from?). Do they throw any error codes?
