These bits out, so diff can go of to Kayne to do bearings and have a look at the backlash in quaife before Christmas.. (be rude not to get the resonator cut out at the same time as exhausts out)

I’ll be very interested to hear how the diff feels after it’s been to Kayne!! Not tempted to switch to 3.64 or 3.73 while you’re at it??

Diff Rebuilt. Kayne commented the pinion bearing was shagged and I should be running 75w140.. This might have been my dentist drill whine under load? We shall find out.

Diff looks new now..

The included tape is reeaaally grabby, only get one shot at getting it on square! Going to run a fine bead of sealant around it just crap getting in the leading edge.

Yeah I like that.  Will try and hunt down a factory aero first.
But I am waiting for $500 worth of hoses to arrive.  So maybe after xmas sometime.

Dunno about mice stirring throughout the house, but the rattle gun is certainly singing.

Nothing fighting me yet, going too smoothly... something must be seized somewhere.

Bit of screwing around with the wrong sized mandrels, need 85mm to fit the bearing and universal kit only went to up 82mm.. KB Motorsport is a legend.

Bearings replaced, pretty straight forwards with the right tools. Bit of a clean up of bores and lick of rust converter and good for another 300,000km.

Getting handbrake cables out requires undoing a lot of stuff just to get to the balance bar, but otherwise easy to replace.

New handbrake hardware and shoes (the bmw kit for all the handbrake stuff for both sides is cheap as chups), halfshafts cleaned and banged back in.. They look pretty good for how many times they've been spun around!

420Nm on the axle nut = 71kg at 600mm :D

Mission accomplished. The high pitch power on dentist drill whine at 100ish has gone, must have been the diff. All works good and feels tight as a tiger. Handbrake can now be adjusted properly, no more 5 click nonsense. Checked for 11s, satis.

Hi Chris

Getting onto the M3 LCA's - are these the ones you fitted to your 130i? (see attached Amazon part numbers)

Is it a simple swap over, and should I be looking at anything else while there (low cost options only at this stage)

Any special tools required?

Will do an Interweb search for fitting videos

Cheers, John

This is what you need + the little arm for the headlight levelling sensor (cant remember p/n sorry) it'll be on realoem as M3 part. Hollah if you cant find it and Ill dig it up.

Just normal spanners/rathcets etc to bolt on

I've seen these for E46 too, could be good as I use wireless carplay so am not tethered (charging)- can't imagine the charging rate is too quick though? 5w?

OMG only just found this thread. This is my old 130i (I always regretted selling it - amazing car).

I'd wondered what happened to it and now I know! Good to see that she is much loved :)

Haha kick ass ;) Were you the first or second owner? I bought it off a family in Hamilton (160000 km ago :D

Second. Bought it when I still lived in Welly (traded my also much loved 540i M-Sport for it). Then it came up to Auckland with me in 2013.

Honestly, even in stock form, it has been one of my most memorable cars. The only thing missing was a LSD (which, among many things, I see you have remedied).

Ahh, so I must be fourth owner? Did you put the ACS Type IVs on it? There are a few pictures of it floating around Hamilton car meets a few years before I bought it. Its definitely been looked after its whole life, I don't see myself selling it anytime soon.

Its sister (A red manual NZ new 130, couple of s/n off of this one) was on trademe a couple of years ago, regret not buying it :D , but other than that not many of the Kiwi cars pop up at all.

The ACS Type IV's were already on it. I knew the previous owner, and like me, he was fastidious about his cars. And I'm borderline OCD where I'll replace anything that needs replacing - inside and out. People love buying my cars as they know they're getting a minter haha.

Funny as I had "NZ New Manual 130i" in my Trade Me watch list for ages after selling it in case it popped back up. I totally would have bought it back :) And you're right in that most of them are all imports and there are even fewer manuals.

Nice work.

Is that new cluster, new sensor and some coding? Or something else altogether?

LCI cluster into pre-LCI, its plug and play but coding it to suit my VO doesnt seem to work as servicing schedules havent transferred over (and its still reporting the old VIN on the kombi). Some sorta tamper proofing, odo reads correctly though.

Oil temp is on the OBD2 feed on pre-lci cars, DME must use it, and has the sensor, but the PID for it is apparently topsecret so its unobtanium in Torque etc.
