Jacko 2156 Report post Posted August 31, 2021 (edited) Some valvetronics pics. Kinda cool how it actually staggers intake valves opening on same cylinder, I'm assuming to induce a swirl pattern. Teeny oil gallery's on the bottom of the supports. The other curious thing is that the followers are actually completely floating, the only thing stopping them flying off into scenery is the eccentric shaft and the springs. MILVs tomorrows, after cleaning the bits that are staying, big thanks to @Matt for lending me the spring tool, works legit. Jacko 2156 Report post Posted September 15, 2021 (edited) Bit of progress, new bosch coils (took a bit of hunting to get the fully rubber booted ones, and the replacement connectors to update cars loom to suit), and a new rocker cover, new orings and seals on everything from vanos filters to camshaft triggers. Not too far off from being ready to swap in. Rocker cover replacements actually a nice job when its not in the car Edited September 15, 2021 by Jacko
Jacko 2156 Report post Posted September 15, 2021 (edited) Has anyone looked into or familiar with DME tuning? Ive done a bit of hunting etc but got nowhere on tweaking MSV70s.. Im half tempted to try clone my DME and then screw with it... whats the worst that could happen . There are services like https://www.bimmerlabs.com/ but they seem dead, Ive sent them a few emails but got nothing back. Which kind of leaves the only tuning options I have being https://stagefp.com/ Edited September 15, 2021 by Jacko

Less than 100k apparently, its had the rocker gasket done in the past with some sorta of goop (reminds me of hylomar) though and the goop that was on the inside went kinda brittle and flaky, I suspect that the globs are the remains of that combined with BMW scheduled oil changes. This is a bad one
Jacko 2156 Report post Posted September 18, 2021 Nice lockdown Wx so mandatory make it f**ken shiney exercise... There is noticeably less sh*t stuck to back of car, that Maxton rear lip does a thing!
Jacko 2156 Report post Posted October 5, 2021 With the never-ending and not ending any time soon lockdown, which has delayed my fancy pants exhaust (shops over the wall in the land of the used-to-be free) Im considering doing the engine swap sooner than planned, as soon as I can get a nice repeatable dyno done on this engine (using logs). Got a question for those that have pulled the engine on E8/9x N52s... Will be done on jack stands and with engine hoist with the front end removed etc, Im wondering if the best plan of attack is to drop the subframe while engine and box are support by engine hoist which should make getting the engine and tranny out, and back in, easier with more clearance (particularly around the engine mounts). Is it worth the extra work to drop it?

Is it worth the extra work to drop it? Yes to subframe, probably not entirely necessary (?) but gives you more room to remove stuff. And consider whether you're going to remove the steering pump first, if you do you can drop the rack, reservoir and pump and leave it all together under the car.
Jacko 2156 Report post Posted October 5, 2021 (edited) Tried doing some "dyno pulls" yesterday, I think most of my problem is that 2nd gear (tops at just under 100) is too short to get enough data points, and is resulting in bogus numbers. Need to try third on a private road..... Dont really care about how accurate they are, as long as repeatable and scale properly. Also heard the beginnings of DISA rattle, its faint but there (they're original!)... instead of ordering new DISAs have ordered the repair kits for them both, which makes all the mechanics metal rather than stock plastic. Going to have time to kill.. Edited October 5, 2021 by Jacko
Jacko 2156 Report post Posted October 12, 2021 (edited) Now we are getting somewhere, there is something weird happening with logging data rate via K+DCAN cable and android headunit (every 7ish seconds the rate fluctuates in the CSVs) , done via bluetooth and phone its looking much more like an N52 dyno and the numbers make sense.... its also very repeatable, will be better if I can find a smoother road. 226 whp Edited October 12, 2021 by Jacko
Jacko 2156 Report post Posted November 2, 2021 (edited) These might be even more polarizing than ACS Type IVs Flow formed, 900kg rated, right offsets and most importantly - available. Also some sticky rubber to suit. Will weigh them and compare Edited November 2, 2021 by Jacko
Moupe 55 Report post Posted November 2, 2021 Ye gads! You get to do some cool stuff with that car. Here I am super impressed with myself if I change a bit of interior trim on my own lol. Anyway, regarding the rims, I prefer the ACS Type IV's but then again, I am bias as that's my old car. But then again, I do like anything gloss white... Turning the attention away from the 130i for a second, I'm also super curious about the white drone/spaceship looking thing on the back wall! What is that?
Jacko 2156 Report post Posted November 2, 2021 (edited) Yeah I like the ACS Type IVs too, Im being a weight weeny and want to start playing with it on track. Ill probably keep them in the corner. ACS Type IV 19x8.5 235/35/19 - RE003 - 24.86kg R5 18x8.5 235/40/18 - RT615K+ - 21.3kg 14.24kg of unsprung mass.... not insignificant. Moupe 55 Report post Posted November 2, 2021 I think for the track, they look awesome. But for the road, the ACS Type IV's still look the mutz.

KwS 2425 Report post Posted November 3, 2021 Never really liked that style ACS, the spokes were too narrow for my liking. Those chunky 5 spokes look awesome though. Hope your wheel wax is good, white wheels are an a**hole to keep clean 🤣
