NZ_InFerno 371 Report post Posted August 16, 2021 Just now, Jacko said: Pull off intake, replace starter, replace intake. Its a ball ache just due to the intake removal. Yeah I've read it's a process. What timing lol. There's a starter kit on fcp euro so I'll grab that for it. Is there anything else I should be doing while I'm there? M3AN 4016 Report post Posted August 16, 2021 Check your DISA valves when the manifold is off, so much easier! Interested to follow your progress @NZ_InFerno, mine hard starts some times even with a full battery. Got a link to that FCP kit?

Jacko 2156 Report post Posted August 16, 2021 Header decisions to make.. Thoughts? Stainless - higher price, no corrosion issues, might sound tinyer. Mild steel - cheaper Mild steel HPC coated - roughly same price as Stainless all in. I havent had stuff coated before so not to sure on how it ages? Jacko 2156 Report post Posted August 17, 2021 Titaniums for poor people, inconel only. Leaning towards ceramic coating, Im just not sure how it ages.
NZ_InFerno 371 Report post Posted August 17, 2021 Fault code from scanning, seems like it is the starter. Guess I'm ordering one in ASAP. @M3AN I'll check the DISAs while I'm in there but they've been done by the previous owner. Not sure if they did both though. I've had other people borrow the car in the last week and they had trouble starting it which I put down to them not being familiar with the car, but guess that wasn't the case. Jacko 2156 Report post Posted August 17, 2021 If using it as ya daily, a long 3/8th extension and a hammer in the boot gets a few goes out of the starter

Check results then consider more exotic options. Have you considered cut n shut of 4cyl headers as a starting point?

duluth 41 Report post Posted August 20, 2021 Seems the majority of manuals that come up are pre LCI, any reason for that ?

Does seem to be that way... maybe PreLCI drivers just have better taste, or its maybe a market share thing? People buying expensive small cars wanted autos? 2006 was the largest production of 130s (half of which would be PreLCI), but LCI are more common as were made for more years. KwS 2425 Report post Posted August 21, 2021 Throttle controller fitted to that one too, wonder how much of a difference that makes? Im guessing a reasonable amount if the throttle, like other BMWs of the time, isnt linear.
GorGasm 563 Report post Posted August 21, 2021 I found the 130i throttle to be all in the first 1/3 of pedal. The second two thirds didn't give a relative increase in power.

I'd never heard of a throttle controller until reading your comment!
Jacko 2156 Report post Posted August 22, 2021 Was curious about how the 14077 BMW 130s compared to other BMWs, there were more than 57627 E9x M3s made....

Yeah I thought those 130i total numbers were very low. There's 600 odd in the nzta database, would have thought the world wide total would be much higher. Do you know where else the 130i was available worldwide? Obviously there's the UK, Europe and Japan.
