qube 3570 Report post Posted January 16, 2021 I have the second one but got it for way cheaper than that thru ali
M3AN 4016 Report post Posted January 16, 2021 Yeah, ~$70 from Ali. But to answer your question Brian, both should do the trick.
qube 3570 Report post Posted January 16, 2021 Im not a fan of my one tbh. Although it does work, its hard to pull the fault codes in one go. You need to go into each module and check one by one. Would look for something else more convenient.
Eagle 1679 Report post Posted January 17, 2021 Id rather buy a 2nd hand laptop then install ISTA. You could also add INPA,DIS,NCS etc depending on your requirements. Should be easily less than $200 and far more capable than all those cheap scanners.
Blackie 510 Report post Posted January 17, 2021 I use one of the Bluetooth senders. Was $10 and you have a miriad of software choices through different phone apps.
Sammo 2550 Report post Posted January 17, 2021 I've not used them, but understand you can now get more full featured Bluetooth plugs which do airbags etc as well - makes more sense to me to outsource the screen function to my fancy phone than a $100 LCD...

necsis 27 Report post Posted January 17, 2021 I've got the second option, works well enough. Handy to keep in the glove box when driving my e39 on long trips. But as said above, ISTA/INPA is the best way to go.
NZ00Z3 189 Report post Posted January 18, 2021 I have a Foxwell NT530 scanner with BMW software. Around NZ$400 on TradeMe. Works well for a handheld scanner. It also talks OBD1/ADS for those with the older BMW's. I got it for this reason. Some of the early Z3's I see are still partly OBD1/ADS. I use INPA running on a Windows 10 surface pro for the majority of my stuff.
Driftit 2093 Report post Posted January 19, 2021 I have the first scan tool. Got it for $15USD from Amazon about 4 years back. Works ok. But now use INPA/ISTA etc.
