KwS 2429 Report post Posted August 10, 2021 Am i correct in thinking the valve covers on these are magnesium and need to be treated with care?

Correct, going to have them sandblasted and heated. Then powder coated. No chemical cleaning as that tends to wreck them.

Michael. 2313 Report post Posted August 11, 2021 Yeah getting the oil out of the casting seems to be the fun part I've read. Is what it is. No expense spared for my 540i.

I've found if you can get a pot large enough to sit an end in, and put that on the boil, and add washing powder will do a great job.

I'm probably going overboard, but I think it's a nice change to do a really fastidious project. The only BMW I wanted was an E34 540i so it all makes sense to go for it and do it to the best I can.
