Kees 594 Report post Posted November 1, 2021 (edited) Not sure if this has already been posted already but there is a trio of E31s for sale in New Plymouth. All are auctions so will be interesting to see what they sell for. The cars: - 95' 850csi with an ACS kit, RHD. https://www.trademe.co.nz/a/motors/cars/bmw/other/listing/3325771764?bof=WUxN4CXo - 91' 850i with csi running gear installed, LHD with an ACS kit. https://www.trademe.co.nz/a/motors/cars/bmw/other/listing/3325817894?bof=WUxN4CXo - 98' 840i Individual in Lila Metallic. https://www.trademe.co.nz/a/motors/cars/bmw/other/listing/3325799712?bof=WUxN4CXo Quite the collection! All look to be in good condition and are close to one of a kind spec-wise, especially in NZ. Photos taken from the trademe listings. treone 647 Report post Posted November 1, 2021 Will it be safe to say the the seller is a ‘collector’ of 8’s? 😁. An awesome trio but the Dakar CSI is interestingly cool! It is the pick of the bunch for me 😎
NZ BMW 368 Report post Posted November 1, 2021 And the seller also has a B5 for sale, nice 👍🏻 Yellow is also my pick. And lol at the peanut gallery turning up on Trademe questions “it’s a 10-12k car at most” give me strength… what can you buy for 10-12K in an E31 anymore?!
Kodachrome 151 Report post Posted November 1, 2021 Yeah, seems to have no clue on what a CSi is either. I checked the VIN and its all legit. Not sure on the logic by the seller of listing all 3 at the same time given the limited market here.
ssbmw 220 Report post Posted November 1, 2021 The owner of this lovely trio is an extremely fanatical guy and is possibly one of the world's biggest devotee's of the E31. He was one of the 1st owners of an E31 new in NZ, and about 10-12 years ago built an exceptional collection of around 10 plus examples of special E31's. Included in that collection were some super exclusive Alpina models (now sold I believe). He also painstakingly built a red race car that paid homage to the famous "M8" prototype that lives in the BMW museum. That car was seen racing on our race-tracks a few years ago. A beast. The dakar yellow Schnitzer example was written about 10-15 years ago in BMW car magazine. It was owned then by another 8 series enthusiast - who lived in the UK. I peronally like the stance of the grey Schnitzer / Frankenstein 850csi. Looks so aggressive. The 8 is a lovely car - very few cars exude timeless design like the E31.

One sold for $8.8k recently. Perhaps they saw that and are perceiving a market value based on it. I'm not sure.
Michael. 2313 Report post Posted November 1, 2021 Whats with the Euro/UK plates though? Bit confusing looking at the pictures. Gives me the impression the cars are overseas or those are really old not current pictures?
ssbmw 220 Report post Posted November 1, 2021 The Lilac car seems to have ex UK photos - the rest look like in NZ. However, all the cars are in NZ.

Kees 594 Report post Posted November 1, 2021 Wonder what the reserve will be on the CSI. This one was for sale a few years back. Also the guy in the trademe questions who thinks a CSI is worth 10-12K wins the clown of the month award. Total fool.
ssbmw 220 Report post Posted November 2, 2021 The car you mention here surfaced about 14 years ago on this forum. Ex HK car that was brought over by the original owner who sold it as part of a property deal to a guy who knew very little about them. Glenn, who was a independent specialist in Botany who was a prolific contributor to this website brought the vehicle to our attention (it had like 20,000 k’s on the clock back then). Years later it sold to a friend of mine who looked after it meticulously. He sold it in the last 12 months. Lives in the UK now. One of the best in the world. Blackie 510 Report post Posted November 15, 2021 The grey one has been offered for $38k. How do people feel about that? I was bidding up till around $32k (reserve not met) which I was comfortable with, but I think if tipping towards $40k I would prefer to try and find an E36 or cheap E46 M3. Personally I think its a very unique car for $38K that is well worth the money. I don't think you would ever, ever find a manual V12 for less than that, unless its the carcass of a burnt out 550M or something lol. Even if you just consider the parts value of the CSi engine, manual box, suspension, ACS body kit and wheels, its a good deal. Would personally take it over a manual e36 M3 any day of the week given how epic it looks, and I bet it would turn many more heads at a car show. Its only down side in my eyes is that it is LHD which would probably be a bit annoying, but like at the end of the day a manual V12 is generally a winning combination. You could probably get a ratty SMG E46 M3 for a little more but once again...., manual V12! Just my 2 cents worth though.
treone 647 Report post Posted November 15, 2021 (edited) Any of these examples are well worth what they have been 'offered' for IMO. Happy to be corrected, but I'm confident that these will be well and truly the best examples, in tip-top condition, that you will probably find in NZ. The seller is known as an extreme e31 enthusiast and does things to the highest standards. And disclaimer, I don't know or have any affiliation with them. That Dakar CSi is a bargain for what it has been offered for! @Blackie- if the budget could stretch another $50k or so it would be worth it 😎 Edited November 15, 2021 by treone
skidz 197 Report post Posted November 15, 2021 Be interesting to see what this one goes for on Bring a Trailer - they have been bringing good money in the USA recently https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1992-bmw-850i-29/

I personally think it is a fair offer. A six speed with S70 m powered engine, suspension , etc with Schnitzer cosmetics is a very cool proposition. If the mechanics are in good condition and the vehicle goes as well as it looks I would find this rather compelling. Nigh on 400 Bhp!!!!!! 6 speed manual!! Ferrari Testarossa like power and looks! Just depends on your overall objective. Not sure it would be an easy sell because of its ‘bitzer’ back-ground. In Europe or USA, yes but not in NZ. Wouldn’t be an investment like a nice e36 M3- but a car you would have no fear about tracking and clocking up the mileage ( and would certainly attract lots of attention)!
Kodachrome 151 Report post Posted November 15, 2021 I had a CSi so Im a big fan, even of the pseudo 850i CSi, but LHD is a big turn off and LHD + Manual even more so. I think it would be really odd to swap gears with the wrong hand?

treone 647 Report post Posted November 16, 2021 (edited) Have been a passenger in a lhd 850i once. Scared the crap out of me feeling so exposed to on coming traffic. Even all the driving lines felt messed up. Was then offered to drive. I politely declined. anyone pulling the trigger on any of these? 😁 Edited November 16, 2021 by treone
Palazzo 477 Report post Posted November 16, 2021 It’s a mongrel anyway, albeit a very good looking one, why not just convert it? It’s cheap considering what it has on/in it.
