Lachssilber 1989 E30 M325i

BIG milestone - Interior is now done:
 
Full retrim in OEM BMW Anthrazit Uberkaro and matching OEM bolster fabric
 
Fresh vinyl on outer bolsters, seat backs + door cards.
Rear headrests, Mtech badges, refinished interior plastics, shampooed carpets and new mats.
Fully rebuilt front seats - repaired and welded frames / new seat shocks / clips / fresh foam - feel like new seats.
 
The textures and tones in the flesh look absolutely fantastic and like it was always this way - very happy.
 
Might get my shift / gear boot done in genuine Uberkaro to match (they are reproduction Uberkaro at the moment and are a cooler grey) will likely get rear seat Mtech badges and need a new drivers door handle surround as well to finish off.

Damn was wondering why you didn't make the meet. Do you know what failed?

Yesterday i was thinking about your new seat and was going to ask you for a sit in it. For some reason thought about a member who's E30 throttle cable snapped in the Huntly around that same spot going back to Auckland. So may of jinxed you there sorry.

I was having good fun following a G80 M3 - car was driving fantastic but I miss timed a shift around redline / just after the limiter and couldn’t change gear…

Seems clutch pedal does nothing - fluid reservoir  looked fine.

Car could take off (lurch off with ignition) in 1st and ease into 2nd and 3rd which got me the last 20km or so to Huntly then got a pricey tow to my mechanic…

Will find out tomorrow!

Sounds like you your ''cruise' was a bit more lively compared to ours. * Insert 4th gear <3000rpm economy cruise.

Fingers crossed, just seems it won’t disengage.


It was a nice steady pace, nothing silly but did manage to wind it out a few times (joys of low power)

Will definitely revisit this road in drier conditions.

Possibly, will hopefully know this afternoon - if not hydraulic (wishful thinking perhaps) Mechanics first thought was maybe clutch fork.

Gut feel is I'll be preparing a for a fair few 'while you're in there' things :)

Got a new master and slave cyclinder and back shifting better than before.

I will consider myself lucky 😎

Just need to get an AA plus membership now as the Tow cost almost as much as the repair 😬

Been a bit busy with renovations lately so car has not had a lot of attention although will be taking it to the Meguiars meet on Sunday.

After having my clutch hydraulics replaced it’s driving ‘fine’ but get a little vibration when changing gear so likely I did do a little additional damage (to flywheel??) when I broke down…

Have also decided it’s too damn low so will be on hunt for some more moderate lowering springs, ideally with a little more spring rate too - H&R sports? 

Anyway, will be off to Europe for 5 weeks next week, so the never ending to-do list will have to wait a while!!

Gorgeous day in Auckland and got under the car for the first time in months - felt good getting hands dirty.

Just replaced sway bar end links as I had disconnected my bar several months back as it was fouling on the subframe (car is too low so stock end links angle was way off).

I have purchased some H&R sport springs as well as the ST springs I have in it are just too low and I want to make it a wee bit more age appropriate and wife friendly.

Planning on getting out for a proper backroad workout this weekend too - have my AA plus roadside membership at the ready too 😂

Edit: Also cleaned my Spark plugs (was expecting them to be fouled again) but they looked good which was a bonus.

Then managed to get rid of two OBC lights that have been plauging me for months - coolant level (connector was toast) and brake light (swapped some bulbs around).

I should have bought a lotto ticket too but will take the Black Caps smoking Australia instead.

Got up early this morning to tackle the Highway 22 run from the BMW Club mid year Vilegrads lunch and fortunately, this time the car didn’t pop a clutch cylinder - Car felt really good and didn't miss a beat - great having my front sway bar back working and I am very happy with the Yoko AD08Rs.
 
Nice weather, great roads, beautiful scenery and zero traffic for a good 1.5 Hours of spirited backroad driving - good times indeed!

Meant to give the car a machine cut today (yet to do one) but with the rain decided to refinish my steering wheel properly - I had given it a quick spruce up previously using colour lock by hand but I wanted a better finish.

I used the ‘professional’ Furniture clinic products I used to refinish my E46 seats with a spray gun and air compressor including their exceptional matte clear leather sealer that gives everything a beautiful soft touch silky matte finish.

Came out great - also did the door armrests and pockets too while I was at it - no shiny 80s plastic in this car!

Swapped my springs out - looking for a slightly more age-appropriate (myself and the car) stance and comfort level.

Replaced the ST Springs (50mm/40mm) with the popular H&R Sport 29664-1 springs (35mm/35mm).

Really happy with them - have gained a very useful 10-15mm height all-round but car still looks great and sporty - ride quality is significantly improved as well (and I didn't feel the ST's were harsh).

Possibly a slightly less performance orientated spring (?) but I already have larger sway bars and sticky tyres for fun stuff anyway.

Helps for when you do the rear subframe eccentric adjusters too, less toe out to start with the better.
