I mean it looks really impressive, great deal of work that's gone in, you'd probably be hard pressed to recreate the same thing for less than what he's asking but reaaaallly niche thing to try and sell.

One thing I don't get is... rebuilt engine, manual conversion, partial repaint, interior reupholstery, sound system, wheels, tires, suspension, cert etc. You go through all that effort, supposedly drop $50k getting it up to standard and... try and sell it for $28k after only putting 1,000km's on it? What was the point of it all?

So, he spent $50k on a $10k car.  That's a bad investment unless you keep it and really enjoy it.
Also, (rant coming) it's a classic car. Don't put adjustable suspension on, it's not a race car!  Stock springs(airbags) and B6 shocks, there's nothing better for NZ roads.
Big stereo, ok, but you can't get the money back.
$7k for seats! You can't get that back.
19" wheels, I don't get it. 17" nice, 18"- a stretch.... really, there's no need for 19" (but that's just me)
ok, I'm done.  

I'd love to have it but not anywhere near the asking price.  I think I'll buy that M5 for $26k on FB and spend $5k on it, which I will get back (eventually)

Those wheels are nasty. When the light catches them they look bright yellow.

Nice car though (minus the wheels). Love the look of 19" LMs on E39. Don't mind gold on green. But not those. LM gold would look good on it.

You can cheap out and not buy a clutch module\wiring so no cruise control. Unlikely on a car like this though.

That was me, because I love CC and every luxury car should have it*.  It's shocking to me the lack of CC on 'classic luxury BMWs' in NZ. I'm not from NZ.  In Canada every E39 sold would have had CC as standard.  I use CC on every 'out of the city' trip I take, which is all trips, since I live rurally.  

*every car should have it, and people should use it!

(also, I have a 523iT, manual, with working CC (imported from UK))

I applaud him for doing something so dumb and spending so much on the car. If i was more wealthy than i am i would waste my money doing things like this. Though a M54 rebuild doesn't make much sense. Why not swap something else?

I take that as a personal insult

An engine rebuild isn't cheap. An engine swap, unless like for like, is multiples of that.

Seems like he was burning money. S54B32 would be a great swap. But then he'd want 59k.

TBH my initial comment was based on three things I don't like.
Old Man Green BMW's
Old Man tan interiors
Simmons wheels

Sounds like a lot of work has been done though.
Most of us would prefer to spend that money on OEM+ restoration like Sreten these days.

Much better on Alpina rims. From memory that particular E39 was being sold as spares or repair.

Oh man, hard disagree there. Old man green with a tan interior (caramel would be better though) is a great combo on the E39. The wheels can get in the bin though, they belong on a commy.

Yeah i dont mind tan with green either. Alpine rims like above would look good. The rebuilt motor adds nothing to the price. Just POM.

I know that opinion ruffles a few old man feelings here .
This car looks dated compared to other facelift E39's I've seen lately.  Saw a red 530i Msport the other day (not seen one in years) and it looked great.  Still modernish.

Edit:  Ah I know what it is.  The black trim.  On the green it makes it look like a base model.  On the Red it contrasts so much it somehow looks good.  Maybe a color match would solve this.

Driftit is no longer invited to the bimmersport pipe and slippers monthly meet. Hard agree on brightly coloured E39's looking still modernish, but try find one. Any colour you like sir, as long as it's black or silver.

On the other hand though, the alcantara interior in so many m-sport 530i's make them look like a seventies Mercedes, one of the worst interiors BMW has ever done.

I cannot f**king stand painted belt-lines when they shouldn't be, for some reason the E36 was a particularly bad offender for this crime. If it was facelift body colour like Sreten's on the green it would modernise the look a bit?

I love painted beltline on a E39. But so far most dont agree with me.

The tan reminds me of my Mustangs saddle interior. Its just too bright. Darker tan or brownish works better.

lol, i love the sport alcantara interior on the E39. If i got another it would have to either have it already, or i'd swap it in. So much nicer than leather.
