Haha - just started out with me wondering how many were sold in NZ. Then I found the NZTA data which was cool, and then when Jon came up with the winning info I realised with the two datasets it would be possible to work out the vehicle loss rate. I'm in IT and data gets me excited ?

30 Oct 2018. 258,177kms ... more small stuff. 1. Clutch master cylinder cap. Jon Mechaniker had found the master cylinder cap cracked during his in-depth examination of the car. Today I replaced it with a Genuine BMW unit (21521119541). Simple job, a squirt or three of brakecleen and a wipe off, swap em over. Job's a good un. (SAE J1703 turns out to be DOT3). 2. Oil Filler cap. I found it cheaper to buy an OEM Febi unit (11121716993), than to buy a genuine rubber seal. Another simple yet satisfying job. ... and in other news, I've been having fun in my workshop. After clearing a little workspace! I've set the rear ARB up in my woodworking vice, and used a flap disc on my grinder to strip back the rust in patches. I've then used CRC rust converter on the bare steel, and this morning three coats of Rustolleum all-in-one gloss black spray paint. It's curing nicely. I've fitted Lemforder end links, and am prepping and building the rest of the mounting hardware, getting ready to install later this week. I'm having fun.

Very recently collected an Orient Blue E46 318i built 03/04/2001. Another very late M43-engined model. Low(ish) kms at 140000, 12 months WoF, 3 months rego. Prepped for us by the thoroughly wonderful Andy P ( @_ethrty-Andy_ ) . Drove nicely on the way up from Wellington, but not before giving us a bit of a scare in the Welly CBD when it dropped some coolant - coolant was running from under the car, and could be seen pooling on top of the expansion tank, under the hose and cap. ? We think this was due to the expansion tank cap not being quite tightened down far enough but that's difficult to tell as the cap insert stayed in the tank when I tried to remove it. I've seen this happen several times before - design fault? Or me having too big hands? - so we'll get a new one. I was able to tighten the 'empty' cap on to the insert in the tank, and there were no more leaks. Getting it apart may be more fun, but I'll sort it. Only other issue was a suspected dodgy thermostat. Temperature rose nicely to show as a vertical needle on the gauge, then after 50km or so started to drop. I don't like that - having had some coolant drop, and having seen this happen with low coolant, it was a bit of a concern. Stopped, checked under bonnet, but no sign of any leaks. Kept a close eye on it and the needle came back up to normal again. It did this a few times on the trip back, even dropping just below quarter at one point, but no warning lights. I'll get a new thermostat. The previous owner was one of those drivers who'd use 'touch' parking, but we'll not be worrying about that. Looks like they were hit in the rear quarter, or backed into something reasonably hard, at some point - the rear bumper has burst off the mounting rails. Should be an easy fix. All four corners have been somewhat 'modified'. Still... It's for a student and if that's as bad as it gets, I'll be surprised. Interior is tidy. Seats are all good, but the door pockets have had something melt in them at some point. Yuck. So. Nice car. Nothing unexpected and we're happy. Time for Dad to start sorting some of the little problems. Lots of little pieces missing. Nothing of significance, and I'll pick them up from someone breaking an E46 (M43) or from Brent @BM WORLD, Kerry at Mosen, or wherever. I'll clean up the corners and do what I can to make sure they don't rust. Oil and filter changes, engine and gearbox, obviously. Now... one of the things I've found with this car that I've not seen with others we've had is that it still has all the emission control - air pump gubbins in place. I doubt it's doing any harm, but it's not really necessary... Any gotchas with removing it? A good clean and polish, and she'll be a'right.

Hi All, I'm new to the Forum and to New Zealand. I sold up most of my cars in South Africa and need to re-collect in NZ. ? I'm looking for a clean Manual E46 M3, with low mileage. Willing to pay the right price for the right car. Laguna Seca would be first prize, but unlikely to find one for sale I guess. Not looking for a cabriolet. Please contact me if you have one, or know someone that has an E46 M3 for sale. Phone: +64278433343. (I work out of country a lot so whatsapp message or whatsapp call on this number) Email: jarededge@gmail.com Cheers

Not a good one though. 10k will get you an unmolested one easy.

^ Ditto Data like this is jolly exciting. I'm seeing how many E39 M5s are still registered. I managed to find there are 559 Soarers 1991-2000, only 7 of them are my rare hydraulic active suspension model!

I don't mind it, but I suspect we're in a minority. Can't see Chanel bringing out 'Eau d'EP90' anytime soon!

^ Note, all NZ new E46 M3's are registered as "M3 Coupe Manual" even if they are SMG.

These are the numbers I managed to find, unfortunately the live Sales information only goes back as far as 2004 and the registration data only as far back as 2002, so I can't find anything for 2001 M3s. I am a bit of an odd-ball here in that I love the smell of diff oil, for some strange reason. Maybe my sense of smell is completely buggered from working with diesel, heavy oils and chemicals for most of my adult life?

I guess you could compare further, and ask a few more questions, does Norway have rampant entitlement culture that is too common in this country, largely fuelled by the media and vote grabbing politicians? Is personal responsibility a thing of the past in Norway, where anyone’s failings can be blamed on someone else? Is there a section of society/demographic of Norways population who have no regard for the law, no respect for the police and are repeatedly in/out of the courts, bringing no gain or productivity to society? Does Norway have generational welfare breeders, living off the tax payers for decades? Does Norway place more value on the family unit? Do they value fathers more than we do here, where fatherhood is trivialised while solo mothers are paraded as something to be looked up to. Does Norway have rampant issues with mysoginistic drug dealing gangs, hooking vulnerable people and teenagers on meth, with the tax payer left to bear the costs of these huge spin on effects, while the media and politicians are too scared to do anything about.

And it smells. If you get it on your clothes, it doesn't come out. Aka 'that nice LandRover-y smell.'

I have a set for sale, but they come with brand new tyres. Sort of got pics up but wouldn’t load properly. Message me if you’re interested and I can send you some better pictures.

So I took the car to my first track day ever on the weekend. We had an absolute blast down at the Taupo Bruce Mclaren Motorsport Park! The car performed exceptionally well considering it is 23 years old and has 278,000 km on it. We drove it down from Auckland, drove hard all day and drove back without a single issue. It would definitely perform better with some better pads, an LSD and if some of the rear bushings were replaced but all in all I'm very impressed. I also managed to get myself 2 Racetech seats to replace the Bride replicas which I had before. I highly recommend spending the extra money for a better seat. The shape is far better, it's more comfortable and most of all it doesn't twist and flex. Overall, not bad for a car that has cost only $8649.50 to date. See some of the photos below from the day:

Hi all. Just became the proud owner of a 2006 E85 Z4 with 35k on the clock. It is a real minter and myself and a mate had the privilege of driving her down from Auckland to Christchurch last weekend. This is the first performance car I have ever owned and my second BMW - last one was short lived and over 30 years ago. It is a real minter and I am one very proud owner. I am not looking to do to much but want to turn on all the hidden extras, try and re-purpose the 6cd changer and get NZ maps on the NAV system. I have very useful neighbor who changed the nav display to English and the tuner to Oceania in about 3 minutes flat when I got home with it on Sunday, but will be looking for pointers and advice around unlocking any other features that car may have. I have found this site https://www.bcables.com/ but am not keen to make any purchases until I am sure that I am getting the right gear.
