So this happened today :(

Recommended Posts

Never really understood M70\M73 conversions, beside the V12 factor the V8 overall is a far better choice.

v12 would be awesome, and I have seen that trade me link before, but I'd rather have a v8.

v12 too heavy in the nose.

Just the short block on its own is 15kg heavier than the m62, and 29kg heavier than the m54.

And torque and horsepower is almost identical;

M62b44 218kw and 440nm

m70b50 220kw and 450nm

high revving v8 would be my preference.

m70b54 would be way better if you go with a v12 and the years suit better

Those V12s sound average compared to the V8s which is the biggest disappointment with them.

Cylinder count alone doesn't make for a good engine :P

You mean m73b54?

Still heavier, more expensive and not that much more power.

Well, I figured this thread needed an update.

On Sunday I finally grew some nuts and removed the head to inspect the damage.

Quite impressive really;

Slow, but I like the process and I'm in no rush.

Car has been completely stripped of all its driveline, suspension, brakes etc.

I've got spax adjustable coilovers, all new bushings and rebuilt 330i brakes to go in but before I do that I need to buy a welder and weld in rear subframe strengthening plates. I've got a m3 large case lsd and axles coming from Kayne Barrie too.

M62b44 engine is sitting on its stand waiting to be rebuilt when I get the time.

I really should do a project thread.

The bore is surprisingly not to bad and could be easily salvaged but of course its not worth doing on a n46.

I might take the piston out and keep it as a momento :D.

yum, yum lucky the cylinder liner didn't disappear as well. Reminds me of a series 2a land rover which did destroy the cylinder ended up with a holden 202 transplant. Best of luck with the new beast you have to instal.

They're under the house. I saw them. Behind your tool box?

I hope you weren't storing them in the silver car... :o :cry:
