Delighted to receive my new steering rack today and hope to get it in ASAP because the steering feels sloppy after the suspension upgrade. After oodles of research I decided not to go with the quickest rack available (Z3) because a lot of people (but certainly not all) feel the result is a little too twitchy. That rack is 19% tighter than my stock one, the E46 Compact rack I've just received is 11% tighter than my current one so hopefully a perfect compromise and the reports out of the UK are that it's a fabulous upgrade. I paid £55 and that included lots of high resolution photos and I was allowed to choose a clean low mileage one (27k miles) that had no front end damage... not bad considering they're hundreds and hundreds (and hundreds) of dollars over here. Indeed it is very clean and in great condition overall, the boots hardly seem used (I don't need the arms but they came included). Will probably order a new reservoir (because it has a non-serviceable filter in it) and gets some hoses made up before I shove it all in (or more likely talk to SJ about it!).

I recently removed the seat belts from an E30 coupe. The bits seemed surprisingly heavy so I put everything (5 belts with retractors, mounting bolts, steel rails that mount to floor, etc.) in a box and weighed it in the interest of science. 6.1kg in case you're interested.

Do you have a budget? Any define your 'good', I assume as in good sounding? Good sounding with some added performance potential? Because this bunch of enthusiasts are going to spit out names and numbers like...mobile numbers.

Its a project of love (and frustration) for me, have to keep going. Perhaps I can achieve the best OEM+ daily driver M3 in NZ?

Arn't you meant to stay away from the 4-banger E46's? They are a nightmare, no? I picked up a 2003 325i M-Sport Touring recently as a baby carrier. 150k's for a little over $10k. So far, so good.

Leave them out. They are over rated. Its amazing what individual components weigh, we took a similar weight out of the wiring loom alone in my race car.

It is a wof issue. Its a mount which the VIRM state should be intact in order to obtain a wof

New RTA bushings and shims/limiters in the e36. Thanks Mike for the parts & advice. Damn pressing those things in with the trailing arm still on the car is not an easy job. Fresh WOFs for the e36 and e30. New alignment booked for tomorrow. And thus concludes a full week of doing nothing except working on my cars. Phew.

So if you drive it into the sea or a lake, you'll panic, break the tabs in your attempt to frantically open the door, and drown
