Hello, everyone! When I came from Germany last year, I bought an E39 540i straight away. I was lucky to find a New Zealand new one with low mileage and previously driven by an elderly woman. I love my bimmer and don't regret the buy. In my opinion, a lot of these ‘modern classic' cars come for a very fair price here in New Zealand. Even, if I needed to address a couple of issues, such as valve covers, brakes and many smaller items. I believe this is a great forum, and I'm looking forward to swapping ideas with you.

Finally got all the 10" wheels on but not quite their yet... can anyone recommend a good suspension set up. If I just get my standard springs compressed will this suffice? Or is there decent lowering springs out there ? i just want to sit the car a bit lower... any my help is appreciated. thanks,

Hi folks, put a few pics of my latest E30 up and have had more comments about the stereo in it than the car so figured I'd stick a post here. Probably no much use if you're after subwoofers and amps etc but for the likes of myself just powering 4 regular speakers and want a bluetooth phone/music option and a head unit that looks like it belongs rather than something that sticks out like a sore thumb i cant recommend highly enough, the amber backlight and similar lettering on the unit did it for me as it matches the E30 interior pretty well - only gripe I guess is that when using the front usb it always starts from track 1 rather than continuing from whatever was last played - I just use my phone so doesn't bother me and it sounds more than fine to me - got it from here but other places do them also - https://bavarian-retro-cars.myshopify.com/search?q=continental full range looks to be here http://www.continental-automotive.com/www/automotive_de_en/themes/commercial_vehicles/ch_interior_en/audio_products/radio_products/

so how do you predict the electric water pump failure on the N52, Ron? I understand when they do sh*t the bed, you get an orange light and "do not drive vehicle" up on the dash. Surely replacing a leaky radiator is reactive, not preventative maintenance? Unless replacing your leaky radiator is "preventing a blown head gasket"?!

That's mine. It was Tom's (M3_Power) from brand new. Those are the stock 18's. I have two sets of the stock 18's so I can run a square setup to fill out the front guards a little better, and have a full set of the 19's plus a set of the rears (thanks Brent), so I can run those square if I want too.

I do a bit of possum trapping on the side. It's good pocket money and I enjoy being out in the bush. I really want a 4x4 van so I can get into some areas I really cant access in a 2wd V8 BMW..lol Some of the places I go to are so far away it makes scence to camp for a few days and I'm getting to old to be sleeping in a tent on the ground so a converted 4x4 van will be perfect. All the comforts of home but mobile and 4WD. Sounds perfect..:-)

Varta makes a lot of the OEM batteries for Euro brands. I know most, if not all of the Merc genuine batteries are Varta, and the genuine battery in my old Golf was a Varta.

good thinking, Dave. Damn, that's tempting. GLWS. A van as your daily? Some changes afoot? Look forward to catching up soon. R

Yeah. I've decided to keep the 750i after all. I need a van which will become my daily and given it's rarity the 750i makes more sense as a weekend cruiser.. It's taken a while for me to come to grips with it but at the end of the day I can always get another 740i, I may never find another 750i though.
