Answers in order: 1. Yes 2. Agreed 3. Hell no! I'd already gotten a taste for BMW as the e30 was first released; I still remember getting a short drive in a (UK import) 323i in early '83... and when I saw a head-on accident in Wellington CBD between an e30 and a HiAce courier van that left the courier van a steaming smoking write-off, and the doors still opened and closed on the e30, I was impressed. I had an A32 Maxima for a while, I'd not have wanted to hit anything in that! More recently on some of the family weekend trips I've taken in the last year, we've driven past accidents with the meatwagon still in attendance, often a compact Japanese or Korean hatchback where there's no longer a back seat area. I look at my wife and say "that's why we're spending more than we'd like servicing these euros. I'd never forgive myself if we'd made a conscious decision to drive something small, light, and built to a (small) budget, and one of the family was seriously injured in an accident.

Hello every one Daniel here happy to finally join the bimmersport family, now I'll get straight to the point and show you all my cars. But basically I love the e30 series I've been brought up with a BMW loving father who drives an 1993 e36 m3 (NZ new) he's owned it for 17 years & his motorbike is an BMW hp2 which I believe there is only roughly 5 in New Zealand. My cars well my first car was a 1989 BMW 316i which I got in late 2014 with 106,000kms, NZ new with full service history and one owner before me factored manual also alpine white coupe. I got it shipped from the top of the South Island all the way over to here to Auckland. Now my second car which I brought last year & I believe a member here used to own it back in 2011..? "James" is my 1989 NZ new 325i Motorsport with a fully rebuilt m20b25 & stroked to a m20b28 using a m52b28 crankshaft. But sadly this car is an absolute rust bucket, shouldn't of passed its wof's and I brought it of a dishonest guy who was saying he wanted to be as much upfront with the new owner as he could. Recently though I've brought a new donor shell a 318i auto in diamond swatchz (excuse my spelling) which is slowly becoming the new Motorsport but any ways enough talking have a look at my cars :-)

Theres also a huge difference in FWD and RWD in crashes, as the RWD generally has a longer engine bay for N/S engines, so its hard to compare most euros to jap hatches. The current crop of japanese hatches do very well considering. Regardless, as said, you buggered either way in a decent crash, no matter what youre in.

It's not a full clutch kit - not for $50 (a genuine M3 clutch kit is up round $1k). Usually a full kit will have the spigot bearing and release bearing - these are missing and you would need to source. The clutch did work but didn't suit the configuration I was using. I know other people here have successfully used this clutch with a ZF box. - I was not using a ZF box... Shipping to Wellington would be $20 max. If you want to do a manual conversion and have no knowledge about what's required I'd recommend buying a full conversion kit of a member here or off TM.

i will take a mid 90s euro over a modern hatch any day.The ancap tests are engineered a bit like the fuel economy tests and the cars are built to perform very wel lin the test. How that translates to a non ancap accident is what Olaf is ruminating on I think

Nigel Latta did a very good comparison between an 80s Falcodore and a modern hatch. Was very interesting. 80s car was big, heavy and solid but no safety features of modern world. I'll take the modern safety please.
