With some of the rain we've had lately, they'd be very handy!

I feel so stupid. I could have put one of those badges on the 545i and had instant M5. Why did I have to make it so complicated?

sorry mate, memory's failing me at the moment. I think the most appropriate thing to do would be to build a car around it. Think space frame, mid-engined behind the driver... like a midlana, but not that wide (no tranverse mounting here).

.. ha, relevant - pinched from a facebook post which appeared today

Yeah weld to the strut tube. Doesn't hurt to find a certifier you want to use and talk to him about what your doing too

That is the reason you cut the tube above the hub - The lower strut / hub is cast, the strut tube is steel so can be welded. Almost all E30 coilovers are done like this.

A while ago, I went through a few months of having only one driveable car... they'd take turns breaking, sometimes on the same day the other one was fixed I'm starting to get used to this BMW lark, there's half a cooling system and various other E39 bits in the garage. While it is exciting getting a "new" car, it is kind of annoying starting from scratch with all the common bits that go wrong- cooling system, seat cables, ABS modules, SRS sensors, oil gaskets, window regulators, door seals, electric seat buttons, ABS sensor cables... I dunno, there's a thousand things!

Mrs Olaf was just saying "it's good having a spare car, for when one's in the shop" (with reference to the Volvo we're about to sell). Wow, this would be ideal! Hope you get it, Colin.

That badge is, erm... very prestigious... they don't just give it out.

Turns out the bumper is the same as M5, the cross shaped trim is removable. Keep scaring everyone else off guys, I know you have my back

M bumpers are hard to come by and you'll get stung twice, once for the bumper, twice for the painting. This assumes you can take it off and put it back on yourself. EDIT: See about getting it repaired. You're screwed on that bumper anyway, I doubt repair cost will end up being more than buying+painting a new one.

And time for a quick update. Replaced the fuse box. Old: New: Jumble of wires: Wasn't too bad, just labeled and de-pinned them, the popped the tabs back out and re-inserted them all. Did it over a weekend (but would be an all day type job) Just a quick pro-tip, make sure the labels are firmly attached to the wires when you label them. I had a few fall off, so had to get the old wiring diagrams out. Haven't blown a fuse so far, and now my windows work with the door open as designed. Did a compression test on the M52, and it's down a bit on the rear 2 cylinders. As it's burning through probably 500ml of oil every 1000km, it's time to swap in another engine that I picked up reasonably cheap. It's pretty much a year ago I started swapping in the current one, though this one looks to be in much better shape (no sludge built up in the head), and should be complete over the weekend.

it just needs some TLC with the cleaning and conditioning products from European Leather Care. The dirt and denim dye will be gone, and the colour will be back.
