Fix'd. Stupid. No idea why they designated the different chassis code Almost as stupid as splitting the 4 door and 2 door cars into 2 different models and then making a bloody 4 door version of the 2 door model anyway.

Nice work! The big question, how much did you pick it up for?..........

new bilsteins in the front of the e36, sits about 30mm higher now because the old (possibly original) shocks were absolutely knackered, they were pulling the car down by at least 20mm !! Handles better, much less body roll, and only slightly harder ride.

I have a ZF manual 328i e36 driveshaft and a getrag 260 with the corresponding larger output flange if you're interested - should make for a plug and play gearbox & driveshaft combo

I Got rid of the anti-fog on the outside of my windscreen. Yesterday I cleaned, polished, and then rain-x'd it, ahead of this week's rain. I think it's time for new blades.

    1. It depends on what needs doing, it's a 15 year old E39. The vibration would need more investigation. Assuming that is minor and maybe needs at most an inspection 2 type of servuce i'd say late 20's. 2. Low teens to early 40's. 3. Niggly electro-mechanical stuff goes wrong with vanos. The engine is actually pretty reliable for what was a masterpiece in its day. I'd say what mainly goes wrong is stuff associated with a heavy 15 year old e39 - Suspension, tyres, drivetrain. You can easily spend 10k plus fixing issues if you're wanting to keep it mint.

The spread in prices is a lot. Some have gone for over 40k recently. Supply is constrained so sometimes jumping in on the one in front of you is the way to go. I reckon 25 could be a bargain, 30 ok and a bit more above if it doesn't need anything. clutch, brakes, tyres are first up big ticket items. Don't skimp on tyres. Mine came with new Roadstones and I had to throw them away. I have done things like the thermostat for long term health. Check the battery age too. Dave has pointed out there going up in the UK where there are always examples for sale. Well used ones have gone from 7 to11 thousand squid in two years. I think there is a growing interest in the old analogue bruiser......

I have a classic Range Rover. It doesn't get worse than that for on going costs.

Rohan, sorry to hear about your WOF issues, but this is yet another example of why you shouldn't take vehicles to VTNZ for anything!! , go to a proper garage & build a relationship

Got a few sneak photos in of the ol boy at the wedding. Will upload some of the shots we had done when they get developed. Didnt quite get to finish what I wanted before te big day, but a good success all in all. Drives pretty sweet on the bagged suspension. needs some fine tuning, but after honeymoon I will bring him out for a meet and great.

And most recently, after discovering that my clutch fluid had leaked onto the carpet due to a broken clutch master, I decided it was time to whip the carpet out yet again. With the water blaster sitting right there, I thought bugger it. Time for some cleaning!! Two days later it was dry and it was time to get the vinyl die - at least that would hide some imperfections! It appears I had company while reinstalling...

Went to Taupo a few weekends ago for the E30 Megameet after finally bleeding my cooling system. Sat in traffic on the Friday afternoon from the North Shore to Drury BP. My radiator hose popping off just as I rolled into BP. Thanks to Jibreel for the save. Overall good weekend, car held up apart from the brake lights not working (fuse kept blowing) Got back to Auckland to realise that the map light mirror is on the same fuse. Unplugged that and put in a new fuse and brake lights now work! Something to look at in the future. Cargo cover also finally arrived from the UK. Not bad considering shipping was the killer, but that's ok. The ends are a bit ratty, but it's fully functional! Would be great to be able to order in the end plastic parts separately, but appears they aren't listed on RealOEM. Also found some different wheels for the Touring - 15" MIM 1900s. Test fitted and they look great! Though of course all of the above are the least of my concern as after pulling the oil cap and dipstick, I found that the oil had turned into a chocolate milkshake! Off with the head and our suspicions were correct - blown headgasket. Time to stroke the engine to a 2.8 Litre M20. Lucky we have a spare car here I can use in the interim.

Last weekend consisted of a few minor changes to the car New Waterpump Added Thermostat - yes, added. I opened the thermostat housing to find that the thermostat was non-existent! No wonder it was running cold all the time... Oil change etc Added a little 8" fusion sub/amp to add to the current sound system - didn't want something too over the top - it does the job perfectly! Next up: Custom fabric shift boot Custom sunroof fabric lining Attempt at dyeing the carpet black... starting from the rear since easy to get to. On another note, found a cargo cover from the UK for 20 pounds! Having it shipped over and will also try a refurb on it.
