Welcome James enjoy your 318 for what it is while it is up and running. Hopefully it will serve you well and not empty your wallet to quickly over your ownership of it. The members on here give advise freely most of which has been gained from personnel experience so no negativity is intend although it may seem that way. Unfortunately the N42, N46 engine range has a very long list of well documented faults and if one has not had any of them consider one very very lucky. As mentioned the M43 would be the one 4 pot to have if fitted due to the general weight of most bmws. The larger straight 6 or if your fancy leans to an 8 are the preferred motors options hence the plug for the M54B30. Any how good motoring James and may you have many worry free k's roll your way.

Bargain of the year - possibly the decade, maybe the century! Scored a passenger side mirror for the X5 - everything including the glass - and all genuine!! Arrived today and bought off Trade Me for $12 (was a $1 reserve) plus postage of $20. So that's $32 all up! Original invoice in the box says this whole package was.... $2086!!! And that's just for one side! Thank you insurance write-offs. Thank you!

CBF started its own thread so here’s a big poat, picked up another members silver 540i MSport with a damaged engine off trademe a couple weeks ago, this weekend I got both cars out to my parents farm and pulled both m62s from the silver 540i (chain slipped) and my old black 540i (electric issues) and swapped the good engine into into the silver body. Cleaned it up and reassembled the interior whenever it rained and after refilling fluids etc I managed to drive it home today! Safe to say my hands are f****d but we’ll worth the effort and experience! New tyres tomorrow and need to figure out how to get the OEM Head unit going again next. Pics:

To be fair the M54 does not offer great potential anyway and if you want to buzz it at high RPM regularly you better pay some attention to the oil pump.

Correct it is off the WTCC 2 litre e46 touring cars. I believe these made about 265hp? Having actually witnessed this plenum run on a M54B30 touring car that put out 300hp at the dyno I would say it’s actually still optimal to flow for larger capacity motors. You can I believe get different sized throttle bodies for these. I honestly don’t know enough about it to be honest. Bling factor counts!!!! No idea hence I am asking if it is even worth investigating or how easy it’d be to make work on a road car : ) maybe I’ll grab a cheap 320i and give it a go !!! It sounds freaking awesome these plenums.

This project is finally back on track. Found some time over the Xmas break to move things along. Need to introduce the JBE and all E92 M3 wiring to give seamless integration. Using existing plugs and wiring wherever possible this is well under way thanks to the effort/time put in by James. The pics can do the talking.
