Hi everyone, Pete from West Auckland here. Just getting the ole BM back on the road again. Been sitting with Reg. on hold for 5 years now (outside). Amazingly, no rust. Have started from the Fuel tank (with a purge of 3ltres old fuel after jumping the fuel pump relay) and am working my way forward. All DIY thanks to forums like this and youtube. So far; fuel filter replacement stuck idle control valve solved by carb cleaner (no more idle surge) DISA checked out ok MAF is ok but some of the plastic from the MAF web has disintegrated Have dumped coolant from the block and radiator and now looking forward to jimmying up a water pump pulley holder tool to get the fan off (have ordered the proper tool and happy to lend out to other members). Replacing water pump and thermostat next..... Lots of things left on the to-do-list, lots to learn and having lots of fun getting there. Cheers

I wouldn’t base too many decisions off NEDC fuel consumption figures. They are calculated off a rolling road test which lasts about five minutes, so not very accurate. As a rule of thumb Diesel figures will be closer to real world figures but still higher. As soon as you Start adding more load, passengers, weight, towing, etc the gap gets wider and the diesel comes into its own.

Just noted the video says they are 6 speed, if you get an 8 speed it should be a little faster and more efficient. Have had my N55 for 4.5 years and now at 125kms. Has had various seals replaced due to leaks and a failed alternator. Otherwise just oil, filter, and spark plug changes. There's probably more maintenance that should be done which i haven't bothered with.

300-400kg and 0-100 in 6.8 instead of 6.0 according to the specs I read. The 535i is pretty heavy already. Sure it ain't no race car but it'll do the job. Specs say the 35d and 35i have the same performance as well. And calculating off the spec fuel consumption and today's fuel and RUC prices they cost the same to run. The N55 is a reasonably efficient motor for a 3.0 turbo.

Starter motor is pretty common. Mine was replaced well before 100k. Has a mechanic taken a look? Perhaps get a cheap Wi-Fi code reader? 🤔

E46 (except M3) build dates up to 03/2003 got the 5speed, then went to the ZF 6speed. so some facelift sedan got Getrag 5 speeds. I believe all facelift coupes got 6 speed?? and a random FYI: if you convert to a 6speed you must update the DME to version MS430066 or MS430069 to enable the cruise control to function.

Agreed, starting looking at Nissan s13s/180sx again after spending too much time on YouTube, 10k+ for some rolling bodies, 15k for one in bits. Even general consensus in that community is that prices are falling too

Thanks Allan. Spoken to Paul many times. 🙂 Didn't think to ask about keys.

Well I looked at financing an E46 M3 in Aus. It came under the older car umbrella so the 15% interest was justified according to the finance company. I offered monopoly money in return because it seems we were all at a comedy festival.

Im still not convinced these sort of cars actually sell for close to asking.

Been waiting for something to be delivered by PBT for about a week. Just been sitting in the local depot for ever. Rang them and they were quite helpful and they put it on a sprint courier and I had it within the hour.

Yup its likely they handed it to another service. But now its off the radar. So who knows. The PBT chat bot was more helpful than any human I have spoken with.

Saw a tidy Type S for mid 20s yesterday, plus T conversion and you'd be set. I miss my old rs13, had a ca18det putting out 200kw but like many cars in the early 2010s got stolen from the centee of town during the middle of day whilst I was at work 😕 swore I'd never go back but turbo noises.... Wow missed that! I've seen a couple $1 reserve cars sell for about 10% less than what they were asking if that's any indication which way the market is headed short term

So update, new battery and still no dice. Same electrical whirring noise and no crank.
