I originally bought this car with my son in mind as he was lining up his learner test. I thought it would be a good safe car for him to learn in and how often do manual e39's show up? I was hoping he'd like it and I'd pass it on but he wanted something smaller and pulled the trigger on a z3 yesterday. So it's for sale as I hate having to park it outside. I've owned it for a little over a year. Think it arrived in NZ as an immigrant import from the UK. It was based in Wellington and I have various but incomplete receipts etc from then up until it was bought by the young man I purchased it from. He went down with his dad and brought it to Auckland. It's not perfect but still in very nice shape for a 26 year old. My project thread is here - Work. Booked in with my mechanic this week to check the coolant temp sensor etc. I'm based in Browns bay and am looking at $7k. Open to offers.

Honestly, it's been 10 months since that f'ing taxi backed into it and the paint disaster kicked off, so I have not really felt like taking beauty shots. But here are a couple more:

Here it goes Rohan, including premium. So selling at a considerable loss, (after less than 12 months), the import / compliancing and restoration cost here in NZ was truly eye watering 😪 Over priced today in 2024. https://www.iconicauctioneers.com/1988-bmw-m3-e30-evo-ii-rec11496-1-silverston-0822

I should also mention I do not have windows in my shed.

I should think so! Pretty good place to start in terms of car ownership. Whilst I’m not a huge Z3 fan, I certainly see them as a lot of car, and fun, for the money.

Cheers guys! Yes N54, and yes, fun. Bit of an adjustment from a 4wd wagon with sticky feet! I've been feeling my way into it, and this weekend was the first decent send around some scenic twisties with all the nannies off - much grins had. A bit shocked by the front end with old struts and runflats (RE050A's oldish and half worn) - jarring over bumps was quite unsettling - will be replaced with likely RE003's with a bit more width and sidewall soon. Rears are brand new (I guess the cheapest WOF pass for sale ...) GoPro's - anybody else had the misfortune of running on these? Bad in the dry and shocking in the wet - also look like they will last forever! Might just have to bin them. I've had a squizz through your build thread too @Elias - that is a very nice example and looks like it's been a journey!

Being used as intended, fully loaded for a week away.

@Sammo It's both. The racks steering spline position is closer to the engine block / headers so you have clearance issues and a slight difference in length because of it. Also the E46 rack also uses a different spline, which is why the linkage uses the E30 UJ at one end (for the steering column) and the Barina end spline is the same as the E46 rack spline. You wouldn't be able to fit E30 spline on E36 / E46 rack.

Doesn't this give the game away when popping out for a snooze under the guise of 'working on the car'?

It's now in my garage. Happy son. Does mean I will need to sell the e39 though...

Great car. I am a previous owner (2017-2019). Still miss it!

Took this on to Hampton Downs a few weeks back to support the Porsche Club track day. A foggy morning presented an excellent opportunity for some cool pics.
