Starters pretty easy to take out. Just unbolt the manifold and move it out of the way. Picked up a cheap 06 Auto today. Needs paint but otherwise has an extensive service history including it's Japanese history.

Made a start this weekend. Got the car inside and up on jackstands, started getting it ready to pull the engine and gearbox. Removed the loom completely and any hoses, lines wires etc that join the engine to the car. Exhaust and drive shaft removed as well, as well as the auto shifter. Only thing holding it in now are engine mounts and the gearbox cross member, plan is to try and remove engine and gearbox in one go. i have unfortunately discovered a bit of rust under the cowl panel so not sure what to do about that just yet. Will see how much more I find once the engine is out and I can have a better look at the firewall. Any reccomendations for rust repair or even a panelbeater to do said rust repairs and repaint the engine pay for reasonable $ would be appreciated. the m52 has been stripped down partially, in order to give it a good clean. Parts have started showing up, have also ordered vanos rebuild kit, engine mounts (24v swap specific), 2002 brake reservoir for e90 booster swap and a whole bunch of other gaskets and bits for the m52. So next up is pull out the engine, rust repairs, figure out which brackets I can cut out of the engine bay, then get the engine bay painted and start reassembling the m52 in the meantime.

Might as well do an update on this thing. Not much has changed with it really, I've just been using it as a daily hack and it hasn't missed a beat aside from a couple bulbs going out. Cert process all went through pretty painlessly to be honest. Also got a custom plate while you could still get the black plates with silver lettering. Finally got some real tyres on it and scored some lightly used Michelin pilot sports, $350 for the full set! The fitment looks a lot better with meatier tyres. Most of my recent tinkering has been on my E36 318is project. Building an M42/44 engine for it with the hopes of it being a lightweight street car that I can do the odd track day in.

Pull the sound deadening off the firewall. Prefacelifts are notoriously rusty on the firewalls and down to the footwell on the inside. I can see a hint of it in your photo in the circle cut out next to where the steering column comes out. I'd lift the carpet at the front too.

Yeah so much better. Didn't know they came in ferric grey from factory, I'll keep an eye out on marketplace. Yeah eventually I'll push for more agressive fitment and a decent size tire, probably have to roll the rear guards at some point. Given that they came with NZ stickers slapped on them I assume they were NZ issued but I may be wrong. Thanks for the heads up, black euro plates has just moved up the list a few spots.

I thought the font on those looked a bit off. I'm assuming they're not NZ-issued? Just a word of warning, I had a colleague that got himself a set made overseas for his E36, looked to use a similar font and had German colors on the side. Soon after got pulled over and got slapped with a fine for running illegal plates, $200-300 iirc. Yours don't stick out as obviously as his did but just takes one picky cop to land you in trouble.

So much better on the style 193s. You could get those wheels from OEM in ferric grey. Always thought they looked really good in that color, especially with a meaty tire and some spacers to get them sitting flush.

Thanks. Yea love the combo for an E36. It's really tidy and in my favourite BMW blue as well. Seeing as I gave my E30 the name Wolf (Wolfgang) I decided to name this one Otto. Had to be a german name and I think the Mercedes F1 team principal's name is cool (Otto Wolf).

I'm stunned and shattered. Sanjay was the ultimate enthusiast. Yes his knowledge of local BMW's, particularly e24, e34, e31, e39 M5, was truly next level. But his ability to recall particular cars, their owners and locations, and time period they owned them was mind boggling. And he would rattle off local build and import numbers like you wouldn't believe. For those that didn't know, Sanjay was an ex-pat living in the States. I connected with him several years ago when I cheekily PM'd him enquiring about his 840ci (he had mentioned in a post that it was still here). Within minutes of passing on contact details he gave me the first call of what would become many. Although conversations where mainly talking cars, there were many times of just chatting about life. Sanjay was a ball of excitement and enthusiasm, always freely passing on his knowledge and advice. We looked forward to one day meeting kanohi ki te kanohi, tangata ki te tangata (in person) to talk about and drool over cars. Alas, this was not meant to be. Our connection was over the e31 - I was constantly picking his brain! "My 840ci was a keeper" he would always say (he was fastidious about it and it was one of the better, if not best, examples) until... he acquired his e39 M5 Dinan. Not that long ago, he did let his 840ci go so in his honour, I share with you 'his 8' ... Rest In Paradise my brother and until we meet...

SOLD 2006 BMW E87 130i M-sport, 3.0L six speed manual with RWD. 185k kms. White(AlpinWeiss 3)with Black(Boston) Leather interior. Pre-LCI. Japanese import with climate air, electric heated seats, HiFi Professional, Xenons, Idrive (upgraded modern screen with Carplay and Android Auto), window rain guards and fully featured M-sport with trims/bumpers/sill plates/wheel. Rear wiper delete. Regularly serviced and maintained. Major items like coils, starter, waterpump, mickey mouse flange, vvt solenoids, vvt motor and DISAs all done. There have been many engine parts and other items replaced with OE parts in the last 10,000 kms, mostly preventatively, for future enjoyment of the car. Full list of items and receipts available. After getting the car mechanically correct, I had begun doing cosmetic work this year, to get the car perfect. It's in good condition for its age. With a 195kw N52 3.0L straight six engine, manual RWD and 50/50 weight distribution means this a a very well handling and driving vehicle that puts a smile on your face every time you take it out on the road. While also being comfortable cruising along at the speed limit. This is an unexpected and reluctant sale, of a car I intended to keep for a long time. Enthusiast owned, it has been tastefully modified with parts of the highest quality to improve the ride, feel and driver experience. Just replacing the wheels/suspension and exhaust alone would cost at least 10k, before shipping, from Japan/Europe, and that's without the additional cost of certification, or taking into account the rare original BMW Performance parts on the interior and exterior. Modifications : K&N air filter and Turner Motorsports intake for better breathing. Work Emotion D9R staggered 18" Wheels in 5*120 stud pattern, with offset specifically ordered for this car special order from Japan. Recently refurbished. Supposedly the only set in 5*120 in NZ. Work no longer makes these wheels in 5*120 stud pattern. RE003 Tyres all round in good condition Supersprint Exhaust backbox, no longer being manufactured BMWP AERO Spoiler, No longer available from BMW Ohlins Road & Track Coilover Suspension System for BMW 1 series - front and rear Certified for Wheels/Suspension Alcantara mirror/instrument binnacle BMW Performance interior parts, handbrake cover/handle, shifter gaiter, pedals and BMW ZHP weighted shift knob. Most BMWP parts are no longer available from BMW Transmission Shifter Bushing upgrade to improve shift quality Android/Carplay idrive screen replacement Cosmetically, on the exterior there's a small dent in the left rear crease line. Slight damage to front bumper plastic next to license plate. Some stone chips on the front and very shallow dent on the roof from prior owners roof racks. Otherwise it's looks pretty good and cleans up well. The interior, everything is in good condition with several touch parts newly replaced. Headliner is sagging and has been pinned up. Steering wheel insert has some wear. Mechanically, sump gasket has a slight weep. I have many brand new OE and OEM parts for the car, roughly $1.5k worth (not including shipping costs) including a full sump gasket replacement kit, engine mounts, steering wheel leather, steering wheel inserts from BMW and BMWP, oil filters, bulbs, BMW and Work wheel caps, plus several others including duplicate parts. Everything is new in box except for the original BMW wheel caps. I also have used original BMW Roof racks for the car. All parts can be sold with the car at extra cost. $12000 or $13000 with all of the parts
