Hi All, Have just found this forum, thought I'd join and say hello. Had my 2008 M3 manual (UK model), for just over a year now. It's my daily drive and I'm very glad to have picked it up. I collected in Christchurch and drove up to Auckland last Dec through Kaikoura (awesome roads), easy car to live with and enjoy it every time I drive it. After a year I'm getting around 14L/100km, mostly motorway driving. Gets more thirsty when booted but I didn't get it for the fuel economy I'm now up to around 153km on the clock and I'm looking at replacing the rod end bearings as preventative maintenance. (Will probably post on this elsewhere for some input). Obligatory pics attached. (Nurb sticker will probably go once I do the bearings and move on to cosmetic stuff -paint touch up, mags tidied etc.) cheers

Hey guys, 2kcup competitor here. I’ve been running the only ever Lancer to compete in 2KCup, but have just picked up an E36 323i that I’m building up for next season. Was an auto, but Ray at HellBM has already done a great job fixing that!

Some photos on our first 2 weeks with the E60 M5 while we where traveling about 2,500+ kms on both South Island and North Island. Oddly enough it was reliable, clutch was getting sketchy when it was doing its bridal car duty for my friends, possibly due to 30c heat and I did downshift it a bit. We also encountered 1 red cog error after going down slowly on a 200 meter driveway, I think the computer panicked or got confused... it was a really stop and go moment for the tranny. Turn off and on the car seems to have sorted it. I then did it again a few more times but just set to neutral and coasted it down. Overall it is a great touring car on the country side (V10 sound is really different), just avoid the city and it is a very fun car. Hopefully with proper maintenance and luck we get to a keeper and we could use every now and then going around NZ. Our R34 has now retired of its road trip duties, now it's only used for cruising on nearby places until it gets upgraded. We saw a few BMWs along the way, not sure if they are here on this forums including a 650i F06. She is pretty neglected and over heating. Could be a good project if you can pick it up cheap though. https://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/used-cars/bmw/auction-1900356425.htm?rsqid=e4a7f9c6a7bb44f6b50829b5beee110c

Well aphone call and a few emails to Pelican last Friday and they had the correct parts at my door by Monday morning. All fixed and no issues. The Wife has confidence in the car now (again) which was the hardest thing to over come. Not a tuff job really. Just don’t shear the rubber power steering mount like I did. Did the bleed procedure twice. Replaced all the o-rings on the quick connect hoses that I didn’t replace. I can recommend Seal Innovations in Penrose, good to deal with and have a large supply of o-rings and other seals. And just so we all know, 1.5ltrs of BMW coolant is only 1 cent dearer at the dealer, compared to the other local independent BMW Parts suppler. Plus, it appears the Penrite G48 coolant is approved coolant however it’s green. And just on those “quick connect” hoses, don’t try and twist them off, if you didn’t know like me, they have locating slots and ridges and only go straight on on and off. Now after picking up all the parts and running around in my e30, the power steering rack in that decided to sh*t the bed so It looks like I’m doing a new quick rack for that sigh.. it never ends ...

Yes did the rear disks and pad on the wifes Skoda, Micks Garage were noticeable cheaper when freight is included.

Yes apparently there is, in fact there are a couple of very comprehensive tech articles going through the whole process.

Mick's Garage does flat-rate shipping via DHL. It's quick and efficient.
  14. 1 point
Yes, I think it was $38 to be exact. Total cost of parts was $322.

Vapor blasting is much cleaner and less invasive

Ended up taking Olaf’s recommendation of Mick’s Garage - can’t believe the shipping price. For $40 I won’t have to bother putting these in another bag, arrived in just over a week.

$1000 is about right $250 is way off the mark unless its a guy working out of his home garage

Ok so i found a used one on facebook, shipped to me overnight so no mucking around, my actual oil cooler only had a few bits of debris in the radiator side that i could see like silicone and what looked like leaf stems? Picked them out and washed it. When i went to istall the replacement thermostat to the top it would not fit so im thinking wtf! The holes where too far apart to fit on the cooler. So i played with it a bit and i could compress it together as its 2 pieces but just not enough so i thought what the hell ill take it apart, only then did i see what you mentioned before about the clay like substace that builds up in there, this thing was blocked and so badly it was preventing the pieces mating together, i checked my old one and it was clean as a whistle. So im glad it didnt fit at first or i never would have looked, I cleaned it all out, installed it and it now works great, and learned my lesson not to put a long bolt through the front mount that will crack the housing. All up and running now, on to the next project.

Its hard for me to tell if there is much difference yet, when i bought the car i only got to drive it for 3 weeks before the chain guides exploded so then it sat for 3 months before doing a 80km round trip yesterday which was good fun, it reminded me why i decided to do that job in the first place rather than just give up on it. As i said in the previous post the throttle response seems to be much much better/cleaner and giving more power with less pedal action but that could also be because i fixed a big vacum leak while i was in there. The one thing that still bugs me is the power loss at high rpm WOT, which im guessing is a maf issue because if i unplug it, it will pull right through the rpm range. So that is on my to do list for the near future. Just happy to have it running again, i dont think i stopped smiling till i went to sleep

Not sure if its because i got used to driving another car but the throttle response seems waaayy better, the sticky lifters that suddenly appeared after the chain guide job dissapeared after a good hard drive up the windy road. Still have to get her feet balanced and aligned after replacing the control arms so that bit is still the same. Im already looking at the next project on it which will be removing interior trim, re gluing head liner and pillars and dying them black. Replace the steering wheel and fix the rear sunshade.

Well it has been a while, but after my accident, and not allowed to drive my truck again, I have spent some time on the e38, and redone the interior, redone the hood lining, put leather seats in and they are all working, other doorcards, welding in new pieces on the boot, and than I will be putting in the reconditioned motor

Finished installing a Dension Gateway in the M5, gives me bluetooth streaming and ipod connection and lets me keep the cd changer. Uses Idrive controller and steering wheel buttons but loses voice control, i have never used that so no great loss. Disconnected and removed the original TCU, I was going to remove the original bluetooth aerials but they are a complete ballache to get at so they can stay for now.

BMW did mine and it was $5K approx, i assume they did everything required at the time, i know it was clutch plates, pressure plate, flywheel and release bearing at minimum. Mine is a UK import but all the servicing in NZ had been done by Team McMillan BMW so i rang them and the guy in the service department told me everything they had done to it. Mine has also done wedding car duties with an M5 sedan.

Looks like the DME on my 335i has gone south. Specifically its throwing a 30BB code which is a DME issue and seems to be related to the MOSFET's that drive the injectors going bad. I will remove the DME and test the MOSFET's. Wondering if i just get one of the TV repair people to replace the MOSFET's on the board as from what I can figure they are a standard OTS item. Any thoughts here?
