Howdy folks, picked up a '95 525TDS Touring yesterday. Spotted it on FB marketplace a few weeks ago and was obsessed ever since. I'm meant to be finishing my '95 S124 E320 but couldn't pass up a diesel E34! Overall it's pretty tidy inside, Anthracite cloth seats and Oxford Green exterior. Paint has seen better days in places but that's something that will be addressed in the future. I started the deep clean today, gave it a quick wash and blew all the leaves and cobwebs out, cleaned the interior. Next step will be returning the engine back to stock for the moment. I'm assuming the lift pump failed as the PO fitted an inline pump, I'm going to need to take the HP pump off and reset it as he's turned the pump a little to change the timing. Sounds like it's cammed on idle but seems to run pretty well off idle. Replace some gaskets and fix all the common stuff like cluster LCD, bonnet gas stays etc etc. Have a pair of control arms to do before anything else. Future plans include H&R's, Style 32's and a manual swap. But I better give the S124 it's time first.....

Hi There, I have recently modernised from a 2007 Volvo S80 V8 AWD to my first BMW - a 2011 550i with 80,000 kms on the clock. The Volvo was a wonderful car that served me very well and I won't hear a bad word said about it, but with the Swedes abandonment of anything bigger than 4-cylinders I was forced to look elsewhere when it came time to upgrade (I need something that can tow a boat). Having said that I am LOVING my 550i. It's a truly wonderful car to drive. I'm looking forward to swapping info with other BMW-fans on these pages. My first question to this forum is, "Can anyone recommend a good place to get a towbar fitted in Christchurch?" This is my everyday car, but in the weekends it will need to tow a boat occasionally. Cheers.

I'm about to start refurbing these so thought I'd advertise them now so if someone was interested then can customised to suit. Otherwise will come in an original finish with some new centre caps These are pretty rare and designed for the e30 m3 16x8 et20 and 16x9et24 and wont come with tyres. Price is dependant on finish but asking $3000

Short answer: yes replace the mechanical tensioner with a hydraulic one, the mechanical ones will just keep failing. You need a few extra bits to do the swap but all can be had off a wreck if you've got a couple of spanners and a little time. I think I paid $15 or $20 for mine from Zebra when I replaced the mechanical one on my 328 - much better than the cost of a new one and the hydraulic ones are pretty much lifetime. Here are the parts you need: https://www.bimmerworld.com/Engine/Pulleys/Hydraulic-Tensioner-Update-Kit-E36-E46-E39-E60-X3-X5-Z3-Z4.html

a guy on the 2002 nz page had a look at it a few days ago and posted up some pictures. sills are completely gone. interior is covered in mould, meaning it's been full of moisture, he was unable to open the boot and judging by the rest of the rust I would say most likely rusty as well. the firewall is rusty as is the inner guards. it will need a full blast and assess what needs to be done. a few bits of rust is an understatement.

On Thursday night in work X5 number 2 I exploded the turbo on the Napier-Taupo rd at 10pm towing a machine. So that was a bit dumb. The old dear has been having massive lag issues since it hit 400km and it's now at 455km. I told them so!

Today I was trundling down the Tauranga Eastern Link when the 525i cut out. Odd, I thought. A bunch of cranking produced no joy but a very strong fuel smell. On opening the bonnet I found- of all things- the fuel line had come off at it's clip together junction! Also, @Allanw will be pleased to know- the clutch has fiiiinally started slipping! Woohoo!

Hi gang, So after my stint with the android screen replacement, and the subsequent discovery that (a) it was not suited to the convertible owing to extreme glare and (b) I managed to crack my original iDrive screen, I decided to embark on an NBT retrofit. My insurance is kind enough to pick up the tab since I put the claim through them and the NBT retrofit costs half of what just a replacement CIC screen costs. Why NBT and not EVO? This was a tough decision, but ultimately I chose to go with NBT since EVO would mean losing my HUD. There would also be some issues with regards to the screen since a modified F15 screen would be supplied. The NBT kit would allow me to retain the HUD, but I was unhappy with being supplied the older-looking display (plastic frames with no glass). Bimmer Retrofit were unable to source an LCI display (they didn't even know you got those). Here's a rundown of the screens: Notice how the NBT EVO screen shape is just slightly different. Either way, even when comparing these to, say, an X5's NBT display it's clear that no other model's display would fit given how wide the original CIC display trim was designed to be. The mounting is also different to most every other BMW (two screws on the bottom, two screws on the back plate and two screws along the top) So, I managed to find a supplier who sells the glass LCI screens brand new, and mine arrived today. US$299 is a steal: I hooked it up to our F15 X5 to make sure it works, and it does. 100%. I'll keep this thread updated with the retrofit progress. LINK to display supplier.

Replaced nasty old rusty wheel bolts with nice shiny new titanium wheel bolts, must be good for at least a second off my 1/4 mile time!!

I was in the same boat. Took forever to find a FL coupe with no sunroof in good condition. When I did, I didn't MI d spending the money. Blasphemy! Haha. I rate the non-m E30 highly. Such cool wee cars to drive, rear wheel drive, manual, classic look, lots of parts. However I couldn't justify ever spending $100k+ on an E30 M3, even if lotto gave me a donation.
