John, as we discussed, there are videos out there showing imperically that helicoils work far better than timeserts, are cheaper and easier to install. Have a watch of the half hour video I posted in another thread (yeah sorry, it's not a 5 minute job but the guy does a good job explaining what he's doing and why), helicoils FTW every time. Given you now know my history, I have always used, and will always use, helicoils and this video shows why. I've never, ever had a helicoil fail, pull out, or be hard to install. Do some research into the two, helicoils will give you rated pull out strengths etc. etc. Timeserts just tell you "well they should be strong enough" - they don't actually give out any figures that they will stand by. Also, note in the linked thread, Glenn @B.M.W Ltd states very clearly "Just a heads up...if you don't insert them accurately the block will be ruined. The head bolts will pull them out. Most motor re conditioners have their own special set ups to do these accurately and even they can get it wrong... ask me how I know", just another precaution....... As I discussed with you on Wednesday night, do a lot of research before doing anything like this, everyone has opinions based on their experience, some advice given is great, some just needs to be taken with a grain of salt as that person's experience. Either way, helicoil or timesert, there is a chance the block can be damaged. Again though, this is just my opinion, and, like Glenn, more than happy to give you a call whenever suits you to discuss before you decide which way to go.

Interior all sorted for now. Next I’ll re-do the door cards in alcantara to match the seats and steering wheel. Pretty happy with the current layout ??

Turns out finding coupe boot lamps for the e46 is a real mission. Should've fixed the peeling seal when I noticed it..

"I wish to retain my cats for WOF" You don't need cats to pass a WOF, they are not a requirement here Edit: I'm wrong here, see below...

@BozzaFC does it have the all important owners manual accessory? if not I have one if you want it. Funny what you find after a clear out...

On road I would agree. That 16s are probably the limit. Handling gets a bit too harsh after that.

Most suppliers send m50 bolts, which are shorted than m52 requires The threads must be perfectly clean and use ARP fastener lubricant.

I'm not sure where these bibles are, or who writes them, but I think in this instance they are incorrect. The last of the DTM E30 M3s (the greatest E30 of all time) ran 18"s, there are a number of E30 M3 road cars (mainly in the US and Europe) that are running 18's and look awesome. And possibly the coolest looking E30 in NZ, Hybrids Tech1 is running 18" BBS LMs which are absolutely spot on in terms of size and fitment.

So... its been a while since I have been here and I guess I should provide some updates! So another year or so passed with the car just sitting in the garage most of the time, and being bought out for the occasional show or cruise. After 4's and Rotors 2018 I decided the car needed a bit of a change up.... and hence the process of beginning a wrap came to mind. Now, 90's touring cars are amazing looking machines in my mind, and most are sponsored by cigarettes or alcohol. The only thing that I could think that would work well with the red would of course be the classic white and red Marlboro livery!!! I do have to say that putting the wrap on took a hell of a lot more time than I ever thought! Wrapping around the door handles was tricky and we didn't get the job perfect, however it looks great in photos and definitely turns some heads! I managed to pickup some ratty old rims, that I quickly gave a coating of white paint to and chucked my semi slicks onto. I do have to say they turned out far better than I could have imagined! Then came the day of Chrome Expression Sessions, and the car ran perfectly! Not a drop of oil used, and it handled fantastically all weekend! Was interesting to see that the car wasnt as slow as I expected against everything else that was there down the straight too!

So I decided to enter into 4's and Rotors down in Timaru... that meant that I really needed to respray my front bumper to get rid of stone chips along with a few other bits and pieces. While I was at it I couldn't deal with having a sagging headlining any more! My dad gave me a hand and we wrapped the whole thing in some nice faux suede for that alcantara look! I still have the black sun visors to put in, however I will never ever do another sunroof headlining! The sunroof was in and out about 6 times to get it working correctly with the sunshade pulling back correctly! This was all followed by a good cut and polish! The missus even lent a hand to help with the wheels! After cleaning everything and giving it a good cut and polish here are some glamour shots from after 4's and Rotors in Timaru!
