Tuning is an art! Crunchy has 'natural' ability to understand what each engine design likes. Thread closed.

Good news Ian that box is sourced/shipped, should liven the old girl up.(didn't realise such a massive weight diff, never looked it up) Bring in a few extra to sell?

Hi Ray, still require a good cond E34 plastic cover behind passenger headlights(wide grill) + 6 or so plastic scuttle panel plug/clips.(the small plugs that secure the plastic grill under wipers)Thanks.

Nice car there mate, haven't seen any in that colour up here.

Convert to manual or is that ruining the car? Better performance but no good for purist.

NZ 535is 5spd manual, Build July 1989, Reg Nov 1989. Full service history (BMW or indep)Mileage 173,xxxkm This Diamond Black 535is has beautiful black leather interior with manual sport Recaro's. Vehicle in stunning condition for age. All 4 cnrs are supported by stunning 17" Alpina lightweight period alloys, these are the original design released in the late 80's with clean lines & deep dish. (all centre caps/locks present) Front: 17 x 8.5, tyre German ZR F1 235/45/17 Rear: 17 x 10 , tyre German ZR F1 255/40/17 Alpina's are in unmarked condition are are very rare in staggered set with 10" rears.(common is 9.5" rear) Vehicle is running MapEcu 2 piggyback on existing Motronic 1.3, coated stainless headers with a power output of 140.7kw @ wheels. This 535is has massive punch thru the gears compared to a std M30 engine, near on 30HP flywheel increase.(existing AFM plug/loom all oriiginal, you can put back AFM & flick switch for std operation) Desirable factory specs include M sport package Shadowline Power sunroof LSD Auto air con (air con compressor fully rebuilt but thru lack of use needs regass) M sport suspension M Technic bumpers (will find full build sheet, put it in a sfe place so i can't find it) This 535is is a rare car today, there are not many left in this condition/colour/spec/mileage. Top quality Motul oils (correct grades) used in M30 engine, gearbox & LSD. The E34 is a classic old school BMW with a powerfull reliable drivetrain, other attributes are Bomber like cockpit angled towards driver unlike newer versions with tiny dials & flat dash. Built for a very long life compared to modern recyclable vehicles Vault like doors Superior quality rubber seals throughout bonnet/doors/boot, both my E34's still have soft supple seals Doors have triple door seals (yes thats right in 1988) Long life electrical connectors/electronic systems.(all the attributes apply to my 540is also) Price circa NZ$11,500 or agreed Euro amount, pm or call 021 2328963 Some pictures, limited amount due to Apple laptop malfunction, WILL ADD EXTRA SHOTS LATER.

Yes, keep digging everything out of the ground.

Common question is performance, below is factory engine specifications & max Pwr/trq figures, very strong torque even at just above 1000rpm. http://www.meeknet.co.uk/E32/M60%20Engine.pdf

Thank you! Have been asked by text the technical performance specs so will add this. BMW quote 0- 100km (62mph) 6.4 sec Youtube video 540is Vs the bruiser..E34 3.8ltr M5. Edit. There was also a rumour going around the halls of Garching that the M boys wanted the Alpina big block M62 (4619cc, 340ps/480nm) to drop in the last of the 540is or M5(M worked version of this engine) but this was overuled because it was considered too fast, E39 M5 was just around the cnr. I recall Wolfgang Reiztle also blitzed the M8 because he decided BMW didn't want to put their name to such a vehicle.

NZ E34 540is, 6 spd manual. Price $25k ono I also have for sale my other stunning 1989 NZ E34 535is, will post tomorrow with photo's.

The 3ltr is a sweet runner but you are better off following others advice & dropping in a 3.5ltr or just buy a 535is.(not really a 3.5, actual cc is 3430) To give you some idea what gains are locked away in a 'good' M30b35 i gained approx 23hp@wheels running piggyback map system + headers.(supplied by wayney on bimmer) 23 wheel HP equates to approx 27 flywheel HP @ 15% drivetrain loss on a manual 5 speed. Headers only gained approx 5HP@ wheels on stock engine but i'm sure with some internal engine work the headers would come into their own. HP figures quoted are from a Dyno Dynamics dyno in shoot out mode, not fantasy dyno's that exist. Edit, add in tuning thread if interested. http://www.bimmersport.co.nz/forums/index....=16177&st=0

Why? Look at the contrast between the black shell & indicators...brilliant.Changes like clears make no artistic sense on that car. Mr E34.

Have a look at these guru's in the UK, they race their vehicles. http://www.thorneymotorsport.co.uk/tuning/E46_M3_Power.shtml I don't think i would supercharge etc, you change the car too much it's appeal dimishes & you open yourself up to lots of other issues. If you can afford it buy a set of their specially developed headers + remapp in NZ.

Converting a M60B40 to run a Toyota 5/6 speed manual?
mr E34 replied to [email protected]'s topic in Performance
If you want to buy a 5 or 6 speed box for the M60 Fabdirect will supply, they always seem to stock some. Cheaper in the long run than fixing a poxy auto. http://www.fabdirect.com/ -
Thats in the range for those M60 auto's. Seen some with less/more HP, they all punch out healthy torque....... the problem is Ian everyone gets in a sh.t fight because they all try & relate their dyno run to the FACTORY RATED HP, they don't understand that the mass produced/conservative mapped engine is not punching out the factory fantasy figure + has a few miles under it's belt. If you have time/funds get all your injectors cleaned, Motorsport Engineering could bore out your throttle body a few mm & make a new plate- increase air charge into cylinder, then you remap. In Shootout mode those dyno's can't be fiddled by the operator so you get repeatable figures, they make bench dyno's (engine bolted to dyno) so they have a good idea whats going on. If you want bragging rights take it to that performance place in Avondale on their home made dyno.

Fantastic looking E34 540i/6! M parallel wheels look much better than Style 5's, that black colour with Light silvergrey leather is a winner. Mr E34 in NZ.

I have available a complete exhaust suitable for a E34 540i, bolts directly to the factory engine manifolds. Comprises cobys thru mid & rear, finishes off with small rear box/ chrome tips. Average build. Don't have pictures at present. $100.00. pm or text :021 2328963

No, owned by Aaron5sp. (post #5)

Thanks Ray, Sam & Jason...drive the car in, up on the hoist, wait till exhaust cools & bolt in a complete NZ new STOCK 540i exhaust from manifold to rear box, drive off! Can't get any better/quicker than that, nice quiet exhaust.

Hi Stephan, welcome to NZ Bimmer! You need to change your name to Mr E34! Maybe i will catch up one day when i go back to Europe.

Those Dyno Torque Performance roller dyno's are out by about 11%, that crowd in Avondale make them. To give you some idea of the inaccuracy they even read higher than the Dyna Pack dyno that bolts directly to the hubb's.(no wheels to drive)
