  1. They are talking shite. Your car would have originally come with four keys: Two master - full remote One Service One Valet This regardless of origin. Jap still the same but for IR remote operation rather than RF
  2. Original carb/ fuel injection is irrelevent anyway, every engine will have a different system, so integration will be required regardless
  3. I wish BTW - thanks for the links Dave
  4. That's what spoils it I reacon. That said - looks a great car but I would rather one in original form

    E36 keys

I am familiar with the key you have (same as E30 - a centre button to activate a light) & 99% sure that version never had a chip fitted option.

Can't say I was aware (not noticed) of the chrome/gold difference denoting EWS or not. Not doubting Brent on that though:- Your key - sounds like no EWS. I would say it is a runout & still has the first generation "Drive Away Protection", which simply uses door locking switch to trigger the immobilization, rather than EWS 1 (which has a different key - chipped). Soo, to the locksmith & just get a key cut

    E36 keys

Brent - just checked EWS documentation I have & it states: 9/93 - 12/93 the first "Drive away Protection" system was fitted. From 01/94 EWS 1 replaced this system & was fitted to all cars from this date EWS 11 was introduced from 01/95 on

IIRC EWS1 came out in early 94 so quite probably. Check build date - VIN number? I see this guy: http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing.aspx?id=468952020 has coded uncut keys available. Will need cutting & programming to the car but is probably the cheapest option available
  9. I take it you mean dip beam? - Still could be bulbs. Is there power getting to them? If you can't check yourself - get an Auto Sparkie to check it. Save plucking at straws
  10. So fourth time lucky huh Matt, happy to have been able to help
  11. Blue is engine management temp, brown is gauge wire - earth it out - gauge should go high

    This is so cool

Great link, well worth the watch
  13. Haven't yet watched it all, skipping between Top Gear, but what I have seen - sure was epic
  14. Happy birthday Pom. See you sometime soon
  15. Put a cig lighter plug on the end of the lead...
  16. Or voltage drop in the supply line - as confirmed. 3 months to get a simple job confirmed, would have been wise to have it checked at the start & saved frustration
  17. If the earth circuit has 7v (any for that matter) sitting on it then it will be a bad earth in the car harness
  18. Yup, not going at all OR staying on. Both indicate a fault - hense me asking if coming on THEN going off. Not coming on could be - ign supply to, blown bulb, wiring to alt, or open circuit in alt (worn brushes, open circuit rotor or regulator). Alt relies on circuit complete for excitation -assuming it is good. Staying on - obviously indicating a fault too
  19. I'm a little confused with your statement. The harness you have pictured - is that what you have already OR is that what you are asking for? If you already have it - is that the one you got from Josh with the conversion kit? Did your car have original monitor? If so, the car will be prewired for nav & you will just require the interconnect loom as you show. If you have retrofitted - same deal. You will also need a GPS antenna. With the interconnect loom - bear in mind there are 2 variables depending on car build - pre / post Sept 01 Appropriate loom can be purchased from BMW NZ PM me if you need to clarify
