I know someone who got pulled over and hit up for hVing mis-matched plates. (euro at the front standard at the back ). I was surprised this is an issue. Gambler say roll with copies!

I'm driving a 318i at the moment and intermittently I loose engine power. Revs drop and accelerator does nothing. The engine is still running though, at idle speed. If I turn off the ignition and restart with a bit of a rev it seems to come back to life OK. It only happens once every few weeks, at any engine speed. It was taken to a generic mechanic ages ago but they couldn't see anything wrong. Any ideas? Dirty injectors? Coil leads? Fuel pump? Seems to happen more when tank is lowish on gas, but not always. Pic relevant.

'Brand new car' and 'maximising return' Why not buy a second hand version of one of those and let someone else take the new car smack hit?

My friend imported from JPN, i remember it cost him about $2k for shipping and MAF. Would this be a fair allowance to ship form UK? I am sure a few of you have either done this or looked very deep into this. Assuming you dont get burnt by rust, it seems like a win to do this? Car $5000 + shipping / MAf $2,000 = $7-8k??? I agree there is a rust risk here, but I tell you what, in my opinion the cars get a much easier life here. Yes they get little 'dings' and scratches, but there are no NZ bimmerheads ringing the sht out of these cars. A lot of people would only drive their car on the weekend, so low kms can be real. Thanks for your help, have a pic of my 1 series...

Shot. That's pretty much what I wanted to know. Rust; there are still 'heaps' more OK ones here. You know what rust real bad here, those little convertible (nissans?) that look like the are old/retro, but were built in the 2000s. I have seen a few with the bottom of the doors missing. I'm in London. I watch TM for a facelift 325i e30 coupe. Very hard to find.

Hello, I am sure a few of you have researched this and no the simple answer, so i'll pick your brains if I could? What are the rules regarding importing a (more than 20 years old) e30 from the UK? Does it make a difference if you are 'returning' to NZ? Thanks in advance. (pic not related)

Don't worry about you warranty as you can just restore the phone. As above 'Jailbreaking' basically allows you to run and install stuff that is not signed by Apple. Then there is 'unlocking' which allows you to use any GSM network. (previously needed to use an imported iphone in NZ). You need to jailbreak, so you can run the program that unlocks the phone. Then came 'all in one' programs like zi-phone that did it all in one click. DON'T USE ZI-PHONE! Zi Phone messes with you baseband version and my not be re-storable. Wait for the 'pwnage tool' to come out. I have used the unlocks/jailbreaks on release day since 1.1.1 and have not had problems. It used to be quite involved, now there are 'one click' solutions. The unlock/jailbreak has not yet been release for 2.0 firmware. When available I would recommend doing it as you can get so many apps that aren't available in the App Store. Also I would recommend adding these guys here to your 'installer' sources for NZ specific mods. mod my iphone .com is one of the community sites. BTW if you jailbreak you can then install Swirly MMS and you will be able to send and recive MMS / PXT messages. PM me if you want set up info.

Ollie, I'm with you brother. Its not perfect, there are drawbacks, but overall it is next level sh*t. Have you got pxt working? You can now send and receive Pxt. Works perfectly. (you need swirly MMS and IMMESS viewer). Out of the box the iPhone is OK, but using 3rd party apps and the 'installer' and its sick. You can do so much crazy sht. (Hence my previous comments about it being more suited to 'power users'. )

6300 nokia is a mean phone. (but 'just a phone') Points about the N series are somewhat valid. There is video recording, MMS, IM clients, XM Radio, VOIP and Video out on the iphone. (Though from hackers not Apple). The biggest selling point for me is that is an iPod, and the best one they have made at that. I am a fan of iTunes. Podcasts, smart playlists auto sync etc. etc. I plug in my iphone and all my smart playlists are updated, ratings updated, new podcasts updated, it replaces episodes i have watched with new ones, syncs my contacts and calender with my outlook list. All automatically. It works pretty well. So if I want one device an N series is the only other option The music player doesn't integrate that well with iTunes and is far more cumbersome to use (in terms of media playback). Plus the screen is far inferior. Edit plus i have never seen a chick flash her tits to play on a nokia!

If you want an iPhone just get one from the US / eBay and unlock it. Have any plan you want or prepay. Probably save you a couple of hundred off the ~$900 prepay purchase price here. Oh that is the other 'revolutionary' thing about the iPhone is the 'installer'. Instead of collecting stuff from all over the net to put onto your phone via bluetooth or cable or whatever, the iphone does it all on the phone through the installer app. It is very cool. The free 3rd party apps you can get are sick. There are thousands. One click to install. You need to be 'jailbroken' to do this but that is easy now. You can do some crazy things like this one app lets you access your desktop pc from anywhere over the net. What it shows on your iphone screen is your actual PC. So you can look at photos, send email anything remotely. www.modmyifone.com

I have owned the 1st gen iPhone for about 6 months. ($750 off ebay) I was going to upgrade, but then I realised there are only 2 features that the 3g version has that I would want. -GPS (which by the way doesn't act like real time direction giving car systems yet) -flush mounted headphone jack. My previous phone was 3G and I never used it. To correct Ollie pxt has nothing to do with 3G. You can pxt now with the iphone now using third party apps, (swirly mms). No native PXT support is the biggest drawback along with no copy/paste. Overall i think it an awesome device. I use the browser heaps when i am at home/in a WiFi zone. Never on the network. The email client is good. and the calender and Outlook syncing is excellent. If you are not a 'power user' i think you would be disappointed with it to be honest. But if you carry an ipod everywhere with you and use a mobile email device it is great. Oh but the one thing that still blows me away is the screen. It is sick. No other handheld device comes close. Watching videos on it is great. PS Battery life is good (1st gen).
