I see, perhaps then the more off-road oriented items the OP speaks of on the Landrover/Rangerover are ZF components, makes more sense.

He's added some check plate, but only provided detail shots not a full frontal, I'm looking forwards to the next progress pics. aparently the X5 came about from a BMW and Land Rover colaboration, I knew the range rovers got the BMW engine, what didn't occur to me is 4wd specific driveline components from the X5 are Landrover items, or some of them anyway, meaning you can take off-road Landrover diff and transfer cases and retrofit them, or somthing like that anyway.

I had he same happen fortunately before I'd booked air fares, but not before I'd signed off on the finance paperwork, that took a few days to unravel as the charming seller sold to a higher offer after accepting mine, because, and i quote, 'it's just business', well sir, f**k doing business with you or your company.

Me too, I've only driven about 100km in it, I'm facing facts, looking at what assets I'm not using and don't need, and given this thing is still at the other end of the country, it's up the list.

Yep... Long story short, I've had a change in circumstances, the car is still in Auckland, and I can't really justify nice things right now... or this year... maybe not next year either. Seeking to get what I paid for it $4000, and I'm firm on that. It's not running great, but very likely to simply be a combination of a vacuum leak, and the distributors needing replaced IMO. Other treasures include boot not locking, front passenger window not working, front wheel bearings being shot, at least one tie rod needing replaced, and the key sucking to use in the drivers door are all that spring to mind presently. It's not perfect, but, it's certified, and a lot of car for the money, huge potential for someone to turn this into something very cool, I'd planned manualisation amongst other things, but I'm having to sell off a few toys to get out of a bind, fun times.

Well, no price, no guarantee it goes, no milage, no state of registration, and parked in mud, surrounded by neglected cars... awesome. Last mileage reported was 92,000miles in 2006... and it may have been parked up since then. Anyone care to offer thoughts on it's value as a potential spares source for my 550? It also has an LSD that might be useful, and 'sports suspension settings' as an option, which probably isn't useful. I'd have to pay to ship this one south, so that inflates the price for me over whatever I offered... He went for the one that he was able to get the cheapest, and he ignored my advice to get a PPI it seems... well... everyone that buys a BMW inevitably picks up a few lessons after the fact. I've had my wallet hammered for buying the cheapest once, and he well knows that, but C'est la vie, caveat emptor. Three languages in one post, who am I trying to impress?

I Concur that DC is well worth a visit, My trip was a fail as it coincided somehow with apparently a dozen different school trips that created insane queues at most of the attractions that featured engines or aircraft of any description, thankfully i'm just as happy with artsy stuff and those attractions were all but abandoned (stumbled apon a gallery with Ansell Adams works and was happier than a pig in mud for a few hours there). That kind of thing must go on all over the show, that's pretty hilarious.

My buddy is looking at an E83 X3 $13,290 2006 X3 2.5Si jap import 50,000k. Service history unknown at this point $12,999 2006 X3 2.5i NZ New 147,000k sporadic servicing BMW and other shop my thoughts are Jap import with lower Ks is the safer bet, but I think the 2.5 engine is a little underpowered, and comes up with VANOS issues when you google it. I said if he gets a PPI on either, and Mechanical Insurance, he probably can't go too far wrong, but the NZ New will retain value slightly better because for some reason people give a sh*t. His main purpose for ownership is he works in a sales role, lot of driving, and his second homes are the ski fields in winter and tramping tracks in summer, plus a kid to cart around.

@Driftit What part of DC did you end up in? I spent a bit of time in DC on a work assignment years ago, will never forget the night I got lost near the Wallmart around Landover... I don't think that was one of the nicer parts of town. But near the main part, the Mall and such, the architecture just kept flooring me, so gothic, i didn't expect that at all.
