  1. Go Bahco! They have an amazing tool set at Mitre 10 right now for like $229, has basically only Metric, so more of the sockets are useful, 1/2" and 1/4", plus a full spanner set and 3 double ended articulated socket spammers.
  2. I'd wager money @BM WORLD has buckets of them
  3. Nice set of some kind of 5 spoke parallels for $200 at pick a part chch
  4. I figured based on the (very lovely wheels that one was your favorite).
  5. Welcome! One is Calypsorot? My E34 is the same colour, looks great!
  6. https://preview.trademe.co.nz/marketplace/trade-me-motors/car-parts-accessories/personalised-plates/1383270904 plate has been resisted
  7. Had a fun weekend cruising in my E34 about Auckland, the traffic is getting worse every time I visit! Any reservations I had about the intelligence of the purchase are slowly disapating, it's an awesome cruiser with plenty of poke for over taking, running, like a pig, but it's running, it looks great now IMO, I'm going to try spend the time to restore as much of it as I can. Can't wait to open the exhaust up and remove the ugliest god damn exhaust tips I've seen outside of a Supercheap store. Need to have a look under the back, but I'd love left and right double tips, maybe square upswept dtm type.
  8. Bonnet was down but this looks like the real deal, yummy, spotted at caffeine and classics.
  9. That is a valid point, 225/45R17 are what i was running on my E36 318iS, just barely enough rubber to stay safe when embarking on shenanigans, significantly lighter and lower power steed than yours.
  10. I think the consensus is, if your spending less than $150/tyre, your buying trash, fine for the commute but not for thrashing, and quality is probably compatible dollar for dollar, some variance no doubt in the $150-$300/tyre range, and over $300 quality becomes excellent with all manufacturers. One website that provides a sh*t load of tyre comparisons based on test they've done with same car/driver/track is TireRack.com, not all of them available in NZ, and alas, no maxxis...
  11. Found this while trawling the internet, not sure if you've seen it, or it's of any value, but it's a pretty thorough detailing of an M70 rebuild, http://bmwe32.masscom.net/sean750/engineRebuildM70/M70rebuild_1.htm
  12. @3pedals Assuming he's choosing the Maxxis over wingchun/toyo/ china specials, and price rather than performance is guiding his decision (or maybe there isn't a great range of tyres in Whangaparoa) , what would you recommend for MA-P3 money as an alternative? Presumably 225/55R16, and I'm guessing an RRP of $150-160 ea?
  13. For some reason I thought the car was in Auckland, I'm still weighing up driving the car I bought in Auckland back to CHCH or transporting it... about half the cost, but it's potentially time off work etc... You can put cars on the ferry without a driver, if you worked out an arrangement for it to be delivered to Picton and handed to the stevedoors, I've done the reverse with a car I bought in Wellington, I did a Bus or a transfer car from CHC-PIC.
  14. This might interest anyone currently cruising around in something 1UZ converted, or with plans to do so http://www.ebay.com/itm/USED-OBX-Individual-Throttle-Body-ITB-For-Toyota-Lexus-LS400-SC400-1UZ-1UZFE-V8-/201942719305?hash=item2f04b95b49:g:mL4AAOSwurZZE1Y-&vxp=mtr
  15. Oooooor, fly to Auckland for ~$50 and drive it back for probably less than $150 gas, easy trip to do in a day, take SH2 if you want some corners. Or save the flight by doing a one way transfer and do Auckland and Back over a weekend.
  16. Ive gone ahead and requested a realist for you though, stand by.
  17. I'm not sure sorry, most of the discussions in the Trademe subsection are simply discovered by the OP, not owned by them.
  18. How long till their engines are worth more than a whole car?
  19. The very same, travelled through a lot of hands since then, quite the laundry list of repairs to attend to now, but the price was right, and my garage is a home for wayward beamers.
  20. I ended up getting the V12 E34 in Auckland :-)
  21. After thinking about it a bit further, I'm going to delay the trip South a few weeks at least, just barely the funds for fuel/ferry/food/accom, if anything goes wrong en route I'll be up a creek, not to mention the schedule and wheel bearings wouldn't permit SH2.
