    Buy my Vectra

Nice one. I used to do a bit of this. Problem was I never added maintenance costs into my calculations so probably never made any money. What is next on your list? There are a few very cheap late model NZ new euros listed on Turners at the moment.
  2. People tend to link to TradeMe when posting in the "for sale" section of the forum. I would rather not have my name (known to a few on here) linked to my TM account. Kinda creepy people having the ability to check what you have been up to (from viewing feedback).
  3. Not sure of the value of your stuff, but I found it made much more sense to sell my bulky items on TradeMe (bed, drawers, desk) when I was in Dunedin and buy new stuff in Auckland. Last time I checked, the cost of a moving company was eye watering. Are you moving to a new job? Most half decent employers will give you a relocation allowance if you ask for it.
  4. Don't buy insurance from a travel agent - they have huge mark up on them. As others have mentioned, credit card based policies work well. I have a GlobalPlus Gold Amex - as long as you book your flights using it, you are covered.
  5. Most people here want info about sending a car from the UK to NZ, but I am after experiences and costs associated with sending a car to the UK. A mate of mine is off to London very shortly and there is a possibility I will move there at the end of the year. He has the opportunity to buy a 94 Mercedes-Benz E320 Cabriolet from a family friend. It is a very nice NZ new car travelled around 90km and is a factory "Sportline" model. He could buy it for around $15k. For those of you that are unfamiliar with them here is a pic of a similar car: So, I was thinking... I really like these cars. There is nothing modern this side of a Bentley Azure that effortly wafts along like them. They are superbly built and getting rarer and increasingly desirable. Either I would drive it when I got there (if I ever did go - the job market ain't looking too flash). Or, my mate could sell it. UK Classic car mags suggest these sell for GBP 12k - 15k. Can anyone point me in the direction of some good info regarding taxes, importation rules and the process of registering a car in the UK? Does anyone know of the approximate shipping cost? Is there anything else I would be up for? Just wanting to know if it is a viable option or uneconomic... Thanks in advance for your help!

    Holden Rant

I feel for you. Holden product is absolute rubbish. I can never work out why people buy them. I always thought it was some kind of twisted patriotic thing as I can think of no other reason why you would buy one when you evaluate the alternatives. If you want reliability, buy a Toyota. If you want performance, buy a Subaru. I once met a guy who traded his VX Commie on a Hyundai Sonata - he couldn't believe what a fantastic car the Hyundai was! Having said that, Holdens are very cheap and other brands cannot beat the deals GMAC offers. Did you pick yours up on the $499 per month operating lease special? Anyway, I'm pleased you have seen the light and have decided to purchase another brand. Would be interested to know what is wrong with the Rodeo's? How do you plan to get them taken off your hands? Being an asian Holden, I thought these would have been the most reliable!
  8. Get a staple gun. Sounds crude, but if you do it carefully it can be very effective. There might be a few marks, but who ever looks at the headlining?
  9. Went to have a look at this on Sunday, but was closed when I got there (about 2pm). Managed to have a nosey through the gates though. On the whole, it looked like a nice car. Some parts of it were showing its age but overall I think it looks like a good buy. Did anyone here have a good look or drive it in the weekend?
  10. Yes better, but too low!
  11. Ultimately, you need to decide how much you want to spend. There are plenty of cheap 16 and 17" genuine BMW wheels out of there. Those who upgrade to chromies and the like often sell there genuine BMW wheels on TradeMe cheaply (to meet the next mag shop HP payment?) When I had my 325i E36 I picked up some nice M-Sports 16's with tyres for under $400. The guy that sold them to me dropped them off in his '97 318is with horrid 19" chromes. If you don't want to spend much dosh, something like this (there are probably better options out there, but I'm too lazy to look) will lift your car immensely. Quite a smart move as people who spend $2k+ on wheels are unlikely to recover it when it comes to selling time.
  12. Not a BMW, but I love these cars. The "within 15% of reserve" sign suggests it could be going for under $10k. A good alternative to an M3 if you want something with an auto tranny! C36 on TradeMe
  13. Are you serious? Surely a man of your mechanical knowledge would have done this if it is all that is needed to sort the trans issues!
  14. Looks very familiar. A great car for the price, the pics suggest it is very tidy. Doubt it will last for long! 1990 M5
  15. Ultimately, I think posters should exercise a bit of self control. I enjoy the side threads such jokes, topical current affairs, non-BMW related car discussion. As for a "lounge", I don't think bimmersport is the right forum. IMHO the problem comes down to the posters themselves. I don't want to stereotype here, but the slammed/glorified boy racer crew that is growing on here seems to be draggings things down. There is not enough discussion on the core BMW enthusiast issues, and if no jokes, topical current affairs, or non-BMW related car discussion was allowed, the site would be dominated by the immature boy racers and there would only be a little bit of core BMW discussion. If this happened, I would get driven away from bimmersport.
  16. Nice plug Martyyn! Now if you could combine the Alpinas with the facelift front... mmm!
  17. 2000 525i Far out these have come down in price a lot over the last 6 months. A very nice car for $15k!
  18. I'm sure you could get this guy down to $14 or $15k - 2000 530i Or if you don't mind higher kms, this is a very cool NZ new Msport - 2000 528i Keep an eye out on Turners too, they sometimes have some well priced import E39's
  19. Uncle Crock is on da money! Sold for $3,300.
  20. Maybe try searching for info on Google - there will be a huge amount of the general sought of info you are after. Doesn't sound too bad for a facelift. Good buying if it is NZ new. Where are you located? A franchised BMW dealer is your best bet, followed by an independent who works on BMW's. I wouldn't waste your time with the AA.
  21. Listing on behalf of a family friend. All I know is that it is a one owner, NZ new 320i auto travelled 167km. The car is absolutely immaculate and has been garaged it's whole life. I don't have an asking price as the owner has no idea of it's value. I thought I would try here before he puts it through a Turners classic auction or possibly TradeMe. If you want more info, PM me and I can put you in touch with the owner.
  22. Did anyone have a look over the weekend? I see the auction ends tomorrow night and bidding is currently around the $1300 mark.

    My E36 328iA/2

Thanks for your comments guys. I'm in no mad rush to sell and figure I will probably just end up keeping it. However, I can't make my mind up whether to put clear lights on it. Your thoughts? Haha thanks, good spotting. There is no difference. I think I had evo wheels on my mind when I was typing that.

    My E36 328iA/2

So, gave the car a quick wash today and thought I would go and take a few photos. I was trying to be artistic and thought the low light at about 5:30pm would make for great photos - however, I didn't count on the crapness of my digital camera (an 8 year old 2 mega pixel Canon Ixus). My ride is a 1996 328i automatic coupe in cosmos schwartz with dark grey cloth sports seats. Notable features include: full Mtech body kit (including front and rear bumpers, front lip and side skirts); M3 Evo mirrors; M3 Evo wheels; tastefully lowered on king springs; and it has the coveted cup holder with coin slots.
  25. Nice colour combination - it's great to see something different! I see another E39 in ya garage... twins?
